What helps as well to recover fitness is a healthy lifestyle. Proper organic food, good sleep, no smoking or alcohol, and gradual build-up training sessions in patience mood bring back fitness quickly.
Longtime cyclist who never had to take off more than a week at best. Just started training again after taking a month off due to hernia surgery, and I can tell you I'm experiencing everything you mentioned! Hopefully, I will be able to regain my fitness by being patient and consistent as per your advice.
Timely video as I now have a bit of man-flu! For me it's weight gain. If I don't reduce calory intake then reduced mileage will quickly lead to an increase and make everything that bid harder when I get back into it.
I'm a 67 year old cyclist rode 7k this year with COPD, Angina ,prediabetes borderline type2 . Work 2 days a week. I do need to ride ebikes now Road, Gravel, MTB. Any illness knocks you back, Take the recovery cycling steady and fitness does return can be a slow process 😂😊
I have a chest condition but I don’t use it as an excuse for not cycling. When I got a chest infection I had no option but to stay off the bike for nearly 3 weeks. Getting back on the bike was so hard. The first club ride was very difficult. A new route and some vicious climbing involved. The most difficult was 17%.
That’s pretty tough! Yes, I have asthma and normally it’s fine but when I get a chest infection it really aggravates my asthma which then lasts much longer than the infection! 😏
took 1 month off for an injury this past spring and lost nearly 100watts, took about 3mo to get not even back to the same level then just took another 3mo off + another 2mo coming for a broken foot. im full expecting now to not get back to 4.5w/kg for probably 6mo and 5w/kg maybe if im lucky by this time next yr.
Honestly, I stopped caring, I get sick during winter so often that it is impossible to keep up with any structured plan, so I am happy just to stay active whenever I can. Otherwise I will just be down every time I sneeze and Garmin tells me my VO2Max is down or whatever.
If you train using a Fitness, Fatigue & Form chart you'll soon see the impact of time off the bike. Nothing ever stays still. You're either gaining or loosing.

Good tips! 👍

Patience is the key! Good luck with your recovery! 👍
Thanks for the advice . Just be patient and get back where you left off in conditioning.
Another great video. I pray you’ll get over your infection soon. Grace & Peace
Thanks 🙏

Great point! Another thing to add to the list! 😅
So interesting, and I experimented all of these over a 4 weeks stop I had recently. Thanks!
Glad you liked it! 👍

Thanks for commenting! Yes, I find the older I get the slower the recovery is!

@ I have COPD but I don’t like to use it an excuse for my fitness level. I know the more cycling I do, the fitter I become
I would not be so optimistic.A fortnight of no training is a massive loss of fitness, muscle mass and endurance capacity.🥴😭
It certainly seems to make more of a difference the older you get! 😞
@ couldn’t agree more 🥵
@matlindell5022 nah not at all, go take a holiday man😊

Wow…a big drop. Good luck with the recovery. Big watts! 👍

I understand how you feel! 😏
Needa dispel the no pain no gain mindset and that the majority can't let their ego's go.

Well put! 👍
Sick as a dog + 1 month off the bike + Christmas diet = A lot of training come New Year. Get well soon & enjoy Christmas!
Thanks, you too! Since filming that vid I’ve now come down with something even worse! Been in bed all day 😩
@@Forest_velo I arrived back in the UK last week and got instantly sick 🤒🫠 wishing you a speedy recovery ❤️🩹 🚴
Thanks! 👍
A week off the bike can be a good thing. Rid fatigue, rebalance hormones, rebuild testosterone etc and have a mental break.
True… probably not so good if you’re off ill?!
