Guldan died during Warcraft 2, he betrayed the Horde led by Orgrim Doomhammer in order to search for more demonic power by raising the Broken Isles from the ocean depths. He died in his quest for power, meanwhile due to his 'defection' the Horde ended up losing to the Alliance of Lordaeron, in effect ending the 2nd war.

Ah yes the harbinger series, another good watch is the warbringer series. Similar in style but different charakters obviously.

if you include the first Warcraft RTS games you're looking at nearly 30 years. Wasn't really until WC3 they started taking their storyline more seriously. This Gul'dan from this video however is from an alternate timeline. Long and short there was an incident where a character went back in time, changed the past, and created a splintered timeline (This is what the Warlords of Draenor cinematic is about.) that for a time begin to invade the main timeline. Which ultimately led to Gul'dan's return.
The original Gul'dan was of the Shadowmoon clan, alternate timeline Gul'dan we do not know what tribe he came from. The period of time from the Orc's corruption to the events of WC3 is around 30 some years (this is an estimate as we know from the time of the opening of the Dark Portal to current WoW has been around 40 years. So estimating some years happened between the corruption and the eventual opening of the Dark Portal.) The rest of Harbingers is indeed Khadgar, and Illidan. Illidan being a personal favorite but as far as WoW's short story videos you should really watch the Lords of War. I think that was their best work yet, that and Burdens of Shaohao.

nope warcraft chronicles confirm that this is ALSO the origin of main universe Gul'dan he joined shadowmoon and became Ner'zhul "Apprentice" AFTER this Harbinger origin story.
Gul'dan spend years under Ner'zhul "apprenticeship" looking and corrupting the shadowmoon shamans (Teron Gorefiend) and secretly training them into warlocks (the future shadow council members) all under Ner'zhul's nose. While at same time he and Kil'jaeden were manipulating Ner'zhul to unify the orc clans to form the horde and wage war on the draenei

Nope, like Gul'dan said - No one living has heard of the village of his birth, and no one ever will. Not even the players!
Even the official chronicles don't give an answer to what his clan originally was.

@@lordderecho Also, Gul'dan we see here is the alternative Gul'dan from Warlords of Draenor timeline.
The one you may saw in Warcraft 3 cutscenes is the original Gul'dan.
There's even a short story, in which an alternative one finds his own remains in the Tomb of Sargeras, confused to why Kil'jaeden keeps telling him that he "Was there before" and "Had failed him", until he gets that he's talking about an alternative version of him which has died a LONG time ago, and it shocks and terrifies him so much he tries to separate and distant himself from this Gul'dan, repeatedly saying " *That* wasn't me!"
Some time after however, the lore was slightly changed, and now the alternative and the original one share basically the same origin story

The biggest problem with the wow story that it has always had is that the first 2 expansions didn't actually have a story or make much sense. Also the original writers that created the universe came up with this whole origin story of basically everything. Vanilla wow had 1 writer and 3 quest designers to create everything so it obviously wasn't very deep. The modern writers we have today are trying very hard to make the game story driven. The problem is WoW has a very insane development cycle. They tend to overdevelop things that don't actually matter. The more recent expansion shadowlands had so much story potential, but the problem is they just didn't have time to do what they wanted to do. They set up dozens of storylines and most of them didn't go anywhere. We went to the land where the death knight class gets their powers and we got literally 0 story to them. Shadowlands I think should be remembered as the expansion with the most wasted potential. It could have been so great, but it ended up being just awful and very poorly written.

Damn...ya, I'm sure the team didn't expect such success and I heard shadowlands had potential. This is why games just do better when the team has enough time to polish everything, the bad decisions start at the top

I personally really hated these animations. Found it to be just trying to put out some story content for the game without spending too much on the budget. When you have fan made cinematics that have more effort put into them was kinda sad. Also felt kinda ripped off when a lot of the class specific cut scenes in diablo3 were done in this way. Like yea you can call it an artistic choice but if we're being real its to save money. Or if this were like a Nintendo game you could say it was because of space restriction on their cartridges. Part of the reason Squaresoft abandoned Nintendo before the Nintendo64 came out. Cartridges were expensive and had limited space and they were working on Final Fantasy7 they wanted a grander gameplay experience and story which required more storage. CDs were cheap and held more data and even then they need 3 of them for the game. In todays gaming world storage isn't exactly unlimited but compared to olden times it is and stuff like this just comes off as cheap. Then again most of the Blizzard game stories are told in books rather than just the game. In game we got "Go kill 100 boars to get me 6 boar tusks" because not all boars have tusks apparently. Or go get me 6 pumpkins so I can make some soup.... compelling in game story they are telling through these fetch quests.

Ok, sure I wish they did spend more money on these and made them bigger and better, but calling them bad is objectively wrong. It's a nice stylized cinematic that somebody put a lot of time into, maybe not money, but some love surely went into these.
