  • A fierce debate - about no less than the meaning of intelligence itself - has broken out in the world of football scouting, as star quarterback C.J. Stroud puts together one of the best rookie QB seasons ever... after bombing the new Wonderlic test. But can this S2 Cognition exam actually predict how your brain impacts athletic performance? Pablo puts himself to the ultimate test of mental agility, with a little help from Alex Smith - and with a LOT of expletives.

    Seems like S2 would be ideal for locating elite Madden players.

    That one question where he picks optician, with minimal hesitation and a well thought reasoning explaining that it's about "work on people" vs. the argument of "credentials" which technically both arguments are valid, and realistically each answer choice could in someway be justified as correct. This particular example shows he has the ability to make quick rational decisions while also having a more empathetic point of view with his QB leadership mentality regardless if he actually got the answer correct or not. Intelligence sometimes go beyond just logical intelligence.

    Testing has NOTHING to do with possible success. My combined SAT (based on 1600) was under 1000. I am amazingly successful at my career choices. People can do even with bad test scores.

    I think you have something special with this podcast. The editing and production is very good. Definitely dig the cartoonish cut scenes lol. But the content is also very good. The research and study on the topics make them very interesting when you start parse through them with the guests. Keep it going! 🔥 content!

    Quickly processing information is not the same as intelligence yet Pablo keeps saying they are measurring intelligence. That like saying a reflex is a measure of intelligence . Its not!

  • @mjmwise
    @mjmwise 7 місяців тому +5

    How are you defining intelligence, Pablo? The study of intelligence includes varied theories. Test construction has a shaky history in terms of reliability, validity, social/cultural relevance, intersection with disability. Very interesting episode.

    • @quentin6233
      @quentin6233 7 місяців тому

      That's what I'm saying. He keeps saying intelligence over and over when this test clearly measures speed or reflexes. That's not even close to being intelligence. Two people coming up with the same answer but one doing it faster doesn't mean the test taker who does it faster is more intelligent. This is what pissed me off about the owner of the test. He explained this on a podcast but still let CJ take all this heat about his intelligence and people calling him dumb when the test doesn't even test for smarts at all.

    I've worked in the personality and cognitive assessment industry for about 17 years. I can say the Wonderlic assessment is a solid tool for measuring GMA (general mental aptitude). It seems most of the recent research findings suggest an organization is better off measuring the cognitive ability potential areas that are most highly related to the job for the which the person is being considered. It is also true access to top tier education in your formative years better prepares one for these types of tests. And let's keep in mind this is only one form of "potential." Some people leverage their potential and others throw it away. This was very cool shit. I'm confident I would be destroyed by the S2 test.

    That S2 commercial sounded scary from the perspective of that they’re talking about people like Pokémon, like they’re not even real. I know that can lead into a deeper dive but just gave me the chills a bit hearing the advertisement

    The founder is talking out of both sides of his mouth. As a statistician, statistic anomalies are viewed as that, statistical anomalies. Him saying he cares about the anomaly is bs. Only reason he cares is cause stroud is showing the reality of this tests inaccuracy. The other funny part is how on one hand he’s trying to say how he’s happy to see an anomaly when he sells based off the probably not improbable.

    I think caring is the most important factor. Caring about reading defenses and not about tracking shapes might impact it just like reading comprehension about the history of drive-in theaters will vary from some topic you actually care about.
