- PlayStation has decided to remove the PSN requirement to play Helldivers 2 on Steam. They will not be moving forward with the PSN Helldivers 2 requirements on Steam.
Original Story: The latest in the Helldivers 2 PSN link drama is that a PlayStation Helldivers 2 PSN account will be required for anyone playing on the steam platform. This was originally listed on the steam page as a requiremend, but the Helldivers 2 Steam PSN link is now going to be enforced. This PlayStation news has brought the ire of gamers everywhere.

Gamers won ? 177 countries still delisted.... see this is what I tried to warn you about in your chat but you just made assumptions instead. Because you aren't actually invested because this is pop culture for you instead of a nerdy hobby like it is for me, you keep screwing up and missing major points.
We have won NOTHING yet. I don't know whats worse, the corperate greed bags and what they have been doing to gaming, or the grifters like you that make content on it but understand nothing and think Steam charts mean something when those games dissappear after 10 years and I know communities of 20K+ active players that been going for 40+ years.

the "requirement" I agree shouldn't be forced but never bothered me being I come from PS to PC and still actively use my account so I could care less about logging in again. I didn't see that they were using that to have everyone play on PSN servers.
Just have it as a requirement for cross-play with PS. PC gamers can carry on without that, by choice or not. And offer incentives like skins that cost Sony next to nothing.
And no one at Sony foresaw this decision... At all levels, not one person put their finger up and said "guys this doesn't sound like a smart move, I like money too, buuuuuut"
That's the question I am still left with, but we will likely never know for sure, if they were all just yes-men, or if anyone actually saw this coming.

Just like with the AH devs, Sony is way out of touch with how their actual products are used. They are looking at spreadsheets and numbers. They are trying to make certain numbers go up. We are collectively apart of those numbers and we are expected to dance and shuffle to make other numbers behave. The CEO of Sony doesn’t give a rat’s ass about how their products are made or how those products affect customers. All they care about is whether those products will make them and their shareholders the maximum yield in profit
I think it is more likely that the heads at PS were told that this wouldn't go over well. I think it's possible that they have probably not pulled the trigger on a much larger number policies that we don't hear about because someone would've told them it's a terrible idea. I think this latest policy could be a policy that the heads pushed through by executive force. My point being, these heads don't understand the customer, so we can only imagine how many dumb ideas they probably discuss in their board rooms.
Likely because Sony has very little experience dealing with the fact PC players can and do voice their concerns when we need to. We spent the last 5 years telling Epic Games to screw off with their scummy tactics, and they have since slowed down since those tactics didn't lead to making money. Sony is now learning the hard lesson, PC players do not just lie down and take it as their console players do.
THis just proves how important consumer feedback is dont knock protesting, becasue it works if enough people care.

No... Sony simply got caught with their hand in the cookie jar, by a community that was both large and by nature organised independently, beyond game mechanics.
What is to stop them from doing this to other, smaller, less organised dev studios and communities? They *want* your data. They need it to impress investors with numbers, and sell to marketing companies for side profit. Think they won't be trying for it in other ways? On other games?

This should be the response to all forced linking.
Some linking is required for cross play support, you do need that centralized account.
And if it's there from day 1, at least you can refund the game if you don't like the forced linking.

It's simple. If you want psn to be mandatory for steam users, psn should be available wherever steam is. Someone at Sony should have raised the question before they made that decision.
Or conversely you don't release any games that require PSN in territories that don't have access to it. That's ultimately the biggest issue.

Hi. I'm from Suriname (one of the 177). We still can't buy the game, but I won't be surprised if that never changes. We've been excluded from many games for many years now just for living/being born here. 😅

As long as Steam reverse the countries that are unable to play HD2 people can keep playing as they were, I'm pretty sure they'll do that soon.
Sony is not used to real negative feedback. Sony fans worship the brand and will let most things slip by. PC fans are different, they will burn their entire communities down haha.

If you switch to the nvidia app in beta, nvidia removed the requirement to login, you still can but no longer are forced in order to update anymore.

@@SWOTHDRAbefore the announcement of the mandate on May 3 the game peaked around 118,000 so losing 12,000 players is still big chunk. Not to mention the lack of trust PC players will have towards future Sony games on PC. So yes it's going to be a long recovery road.
They should never have made the requirement in the first place. Just to artificially bolster their PSN numbers.
This is why it's so important to not lick Sony's ass (or any other corporation's) and let them do whatever they please. PlayStation gamers should voice their concern whenever necessary, this is how you make change for the better.

The real issues were:
1. They added the requirement after the game launched and didn't add in-game or in-store notice of the requirement.
2. There are more regions the game is available in than PSN is available in.
Well that is a 177 Countries that will breathe a sigh of relieve, can't almost believe that Steam serves that
many more than Sony would.

HELP! I created and linked my PSN in fear of losing access to the game fully, now ive closed the PSN account it has suspended my Steam account and Locked me out of Helldivers! What can i do!
No Sony just tried to boost your numbers on the PC side 3 months after helldivers 2 releases that's bull. I could understand if the PSN sign in was there when you first purchased the game it tells you hey you're going to have to have a PSN sign in before you can purchase this game then it would have been different than releasing that PSN stuff 3 months after release
1 this was literally on steam when you purchase the game.
2 the reason it's 3 months later is because the system had issues at launch and the ceo of arrow (not sony) decided to disable it until it was fixed

Until Sony re-lists the game in the unsupported countries my negative review still stands. They can just be posturing on their twitter/X post until the reviews change. Give it til next weekend. Changing reviews to positive now will give them something positive in the share holders meetings today May 6. Wait til they give full announcement and position reversal and relisting before taking your negative reviews down.
time will tell if Sony actually follows through on this - i personally do not trust their word at all. Change your review after a while. THey broke trust. They need to re-earn it. That will take time.

Doubt many people will reverse their reviews, and frankly, wouldn't blame them. It will serve as a reminder/deterrent from Sony potentially pulling this out again because they are still researching ways to do this again... it may just serve as a delay of the requirement than a proper solution to leave this alone.
This was actually an issue caused by the Arrowhead CEO. The PS requirement was always there and he turned it off, left it two months, then said you have to account link after letting hundreds of thousands of people buy the game. He then gets people to slate his own game so Sony let him off.

They needed to do this like 2 days ago, now is already too late, and negative reviews still going up ... this is a bigger F up than No Man SKy did, and that took years to fix and a very dedicated team... This game will never make this happen. And no, don't change your review, No Man Sky needed 3-4 years for me to do so, this game will be no different... don't bend the knee because they made a forced change.
I just don’t get it. Sony does what everyone else does and the internet burns over it. I mean I’m as sick of accounts (and Sony) as everyone else but they said the requirement was coming so it makes no sense to review bomb and demand refunds because what they said would happen actually happened. Objection! In my professional advice I'd keep all those negative reviews in tact for the sole reason to give us the players a way to have our voices heard and see how we did it. Reversing this now would only help fuel sony's ego and will just mess it up again after the reviews been reversed. So I'd keep it in tact so the company knows that, We the players can shout quite loudly.
CEO from a subsidiary shouldn't need to jump publicly against Sony like this. Good luck for all the other Sony studios...

Massive W but this is the last first-party Sony game on Steam that I will buy coz imo they destroyed all the goodwill. Unfortunately, the damage is done and I can't trust Sony that this will not happen again for their future PC releases.

But some won’t be able to (like me and the 100+ countries where you can't create a PSN account), and the community as a whole will have lost a ton of faith in Sony. A lot of the goodwill that’s been gained over Helldivers 2 will be gone after this, and that’s no small thing.

My problem is that the CEO says the requirement was there from the beginning but was disabled due to "server capacity". Well that means you should have had a plan at the beginning for the regions that dont have PSN access. Where is that plan now because it looks like you didnt have one.

How can we trust someone who does that? For me is a no-no. To create a reputation you need years but to trash it just mere moments. I like the game but after this nah man.
In sony's statement they said they were requiring the psn login so they could better police their playerbase / ban unfit players. but theres no way thats the actual monetary reason, right? this must have been about collecting / selling user data is what I'm thinking. Or perhaps this was sony punishing helldivers 2 for not hiring a DEI consulting firm.
A lot of countries are still black listed so it's not over yet. until they revert it back and make it available for everyone the negative review remains.

My negative review will stand until the gold box that says psn account required is no longer on the steam page, and all countries have access restored.
If only players would react like this towards monetization we would have more games made with creativity and love. Then this current trend of gaming where some how a battlepass/season pass is revolutionary when you're just paying for the damn $10-$15 progress system and it's rewards that Halo or OG COD games had back in 2002-2014.

I’m not against linking my account, but they should have not sold this in regions without PSN and it should be optional. They should just give a bonus if you do link such as trophy support or some extra warbonds. Having incentives would probably lead them higher psn adoption.
Yeas I know Sony just send that message today on twitter but I don’t even care about Helldivers 2 until I play it never got to try it I don’t trust every game that gets released
People should noy change the review back because its partly arrowheads fault. They knew from the beginning this was a requirement and decided to keeo it hush until now. They could have consistently let the community in game know or community forums to remind players. Plus the backlash they were doing in response to the players is unacceptable
now everyone knows that PlayStation has a weak knee. also shows how powerful the pc master race is. the refunds probably is what did it, but lets be real if this is sony making decisions left and right for their multiplayer games. ppl should be wary they dont pull a scummy lootbox, micro transactions uno reverse months later like some other japanese publishers are known to do.

I didnt know Sony was a part of this production until it kicked off, and after what they did to numerous other titles including Stellar blade I wont be repuchasing it after my refund of 71 hours went through. And on top of that, Arrowhead's CMs and mods are people of terrible character that have insulted their customers, gleefully stated how they want to ban them, and even stated false claims of SA towards them.
Screw them, and your suggestion to change my review will be just as fervently denied.

Everyone on PC already has a MS account for Windows. Unlike MS, Sony has no refund policy or a secure network.
