    I work for Michelin. Its crazy how much its to make a tires. I love it. Its hard work but it is so much fun watching from the start to the end walking down the process of it.

      Hope you get a purchase discount. I had to settle for Firestone because the Michelins were $400+ more for a set of 4.

      Most likely the date stamp on which the tire was made. For example, a tire stamped 3723 would indicate that tire was manufactured the 37th week of the year 2023, same for one stamped 4413, manufactured the 44th week of the 2013.

      Cant be that. Once the rubber is cured, thats it. You cant just stamp it.

      Because they don t want their competitors to know what they put inside the tire. Michelin is the only company that makes their beadapex like this. For instance.

    I worked for 4 years in the early 70's in Michelin factories making and inspecting D20 tyres on manual machines which was hard work.

    Great videography, technically speaking. Pretty much useless for a technically-inclined lay person who might want to see how tires are actually made.

    Good tires...Michelin was the first Steel belt radial tire. They were getting unbelievable mileage. Sold these tires 40 + yrs ago. They got better with technology. Also Continental has good tires. Just my experience.

    There are 2 Michelin Tire factories in South Carolina. Neither of them is automated. 1 of the factories is over 50 years old and when you are on the factory floor it really shows its age. Some machines are older than the people using them.

      I work at one of the ones you are talking about I think (idk there is more than 2 in sc). It pretty clean but some the machines are pretty old.

    This is why I never buy cheap tires. They're too important to leave them to companies that you never heard of.

      The only thing connecting your car to the road is four patches of rubber about the size of a folded piece of paper. There's a lot of technology in tires. Definitely don't cheap out.

    They way normal tyres are made is filmed really well, the way large tyres are made is filmed really bad (too long courts, solemnly of small details of machinery without oversight, and without any views of the actual process when it is taking place)!

      Thank God, I'm not the only one feel confused by those step-by-step visual.
      The narrator sounds sophisticated, but seems doesn't in line with the whole process/ description

    You think making a tire is complex. Think about designing and building the machine that makes the tire. Worked with a US custom machine builder that made the tire building machines for a popular US brand.

    I wont own anything but a Goodyear or Michelin tire. Little more $$ but it's worth it. I've own cheaper tires, loud! N not that great.

      That precisely what we DO. Even so you need rubber tyres for grip (in order not to start sliding left or right and in order not to keep sliding forward in bends in the road or when applying the brakes) and for shock absorption.

      Drifting should definitely shift over to Electric. More torque and Instant torque from electric engines is really helpful for drifting.
