      It is best to video you taking it apart, so you can watch how you did it so you can put it back together is a good idea. Just remember, they hide the screws for beauty and has to come apart easy for the workers. Thanks for stopping in Lady La.

      Just Mike Yahoo! 🥳 Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I Initially gave up with pieces and parts everywhere. I was about to throw away the fan...You gave me a boost. I sat down looked at your video again. And yes honey lol I was able to get it apart using a eyeglass screwdriver to fit into the really small areas. I used my Dyson vacuum to suck out all the dust bunnies then I wiped it down with fantastic. I wish I could add pics on here of parts every where on my back deck as a testament that yes even a women in her mid 40’s can do it..... 😉 Thanks for the encouragement, I DID IT!

    Thanks for the demo! One small thing I wanted to point out.. if you use 3-in-1 oil, make sure to use the blue bottle. The red bottle contains detergents, which will absorb dust and eventually turn the felt around the sleeve bearings into goo. The bottle with blue text (I think it actually has a picture of a motor on the front,) is specifically for motors. Or Zoom Spout, that works great too.

    Got it! old Lasco 42" - Model T42915 A 3/32nd allan wrench fit 16 screws from the outside. I found five cig butts and a cue tip, the red tube from a wd-40 can, and loads of filth inside a discarded one. Don't think I would have tried this without your video, so thank you! I see new price around $70. I took parts into the shower, sprayed with simple green, then rinsed with water. Even the part with electronics, motor and all, was able to direct the shower spray pretty well on that. Lubed only one bearing, used white lightning, a wax made for bicycle chains. Runs real quiet. Does not oscillate, may get it next time I clean it.

      Thank you so much for your story of success on your fan. Even the gory details of what you found inside the fan, lol. Makes me feel good I was able to help a few people with their fans. I know, not everybody can run a screwdriver, but just the same, if it is ready for the trash, why not try it.
      Thanks again Robert H.

    This is where the government should come in and demand these companies stop doing these shady business practices of using irregular screws to make it difficult to repair the product.

    • @justmike57
      @justmike57  Рік тому +1

      Oh, but you may be wrong. May years ago, they started making cheap things to buy, this would stimulate the economy. It was called a throw away society. This way you would Have to buy more and keep the businesses running and employ more people. Sad thing is, when you bought a washer and dryer, you use to have it last 35 years or more. Now, the washers and dryers are expected to last 4 years. Who wins now, you think you are going to get ahead but now in 4 years you have to buy a new pair.
      This is why we need to learn how to fix things again on our own too get a few more years than expected out of the things we buy. Most people think it is broke, so I have to buy another. I say, it's broke so I can't break it anymore than it is, so give it a try to see if I can make it any better. Otherwise, I was going to buy a new one anyway if I can't fix it.

  • @JohnGlen502

    Wow, that's what mine needed thank you. Trying to oil with a tube didn't work. One of those H screws would not come off with a small screwdriver turning just one side if you have a grinder with a very narrow disk you can sacrifice an old screwdriver to get those off. Takes off like a champ now.

    • @justmike57
      @justmike57  4 роки тому

      That is right John Hess. They don't want you to oil them, just throw them away and buy new. When you get the screws out, I hope you found some new screws that would fit in place of the odd headed screws.

    I have 2 of these exact fans, both were essentially in same condition as his was- dirty & not spinning properly.
    I found his YT vid and realized these should be easily fixed (& cleaned). His video helped a great deal
    My only critique is that @3 min mark, he indicates you need to remove base and force the sides rails up. When in fact, once the 2 lower
    back specialty-headed screws are removed, the bottom nameplate panel can be removed. Thus the entire front can be removed and the disassembly completed without the need to remove the base and force anything.

    Thanks Mike! I had actually bought a brand new tower fan from that same brand name: Lasko. It's model 2511, in the box plastic and all. Unfortunately, to my dread, when I first powered it on it was fine until I heard a loud sand-papery sound coming from the top of the fan. I was pissed, especially since I spent $50 and purchased online.
    Found your video, took it apart *fearlessly* afterwards because I was desperate. Tell me how there was NO GREASE inside that top sleeve bearing! None!
    I had some dielectric grease laying around and I put a nice little dot on the fan shaft, put the bitch back together and now it's completely silent; the main reason for purchasing a tower fan.
    Thanks for your guidance! Thumbs up.
    If anyone has my same model and you're reading this comment, you will need:
    - T15 (*) screwdriver, preferably a long one to get into deep spots
    - small flathead (-) screwdriver
    -small phillips (+) screwdriver

      Kenji Almonté, I would have been upset also. They don't really want the fans to last long. But it does sound like someone dropped the ball with the lub. Ha ha I just went through this exact same experience and then decided to look up the video afterwards but I swear they put those things together so that if you do try to clean the thing they’re counting on you getting to the third step and giving up because you basically have to take it completely apart just to get inside the part you want to clean and I think most people will give up by then but I got mine all cleaned and working and I realized after doing a couple of them that this is what you are getting yourself into.... Now I know how they work it’s a little faster and it’s definitely worth it but the first one was so many pieces and hours trying to do the minimal amount to just do what I needed to do but was forced to take it completely apart

    • @justmike57
      @justmike57  3 роки тому

      No one wants you to fix or repair their product they sell. This is why we were trained to throw away everything that don't work anymore, instead of fixing it. This is where we come in to try our best to repair what we have. Don't like to waste my money on things that don't work after a year or two NefFy.

    Nice job fixing up that 60 dollar fan. I just bought a new one and am looking to buy a fine mesh screening and some Velcro to attach to the back of my new fan to cut down on some of the grit and grim that you had to clean out of your 99 cent fan. :) They sell these filter for $25.00 and I think that's a bit ridiculous. I'm sure I can get enough screen and Velcro for about 15. and make a cover for both mine and my daughters fan. You might want to try that on yours too to add a little more life to that 99 cent fan. Thanks for the video.

    • @justmike57
      @justmike57  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Mary. The screen sounds like a good idea and yes the filters are ridiculous priced. The screen will cut down on the air flow, but will catch some of the dust. Just keep in mind, you might want the air flow at times and it still might be nicer to learn to clean your fan every other year and not to forget to oil and or grease the fan where you can.

    • @justmike57
      @justmike57  Рік тому

      You are right about seems so straight forward. For some reason there is a screw hiding that you missed. Sometime you have to bang on it with a rubber hammer and maybe you will finally find the screw you missed. Just remember that they had to put it together so it should come apart. The fan companies don't want you to repair the fan, they want you to buy another, but for a high, new fan price.

There might be a chance that if they are all broke, but one, you might be able to move a wire to make the fan stay on Medium all the time.

    What type of grease is safe for electrical items?

    • @justmike57
      @justmike57  4 роки тому +1

      The grease is only for the shaft of the motor to slide into the sleeve and holds up better that oil. So, there is not that much grease used to worry about. The shaft does get hot when in operation, so I would recommend a disc bearing grease. I do hope I answered your question and if you have any thought about this, let me know Wonnieboy.

      Any kind of grease you might have that will last longer than oil. Food grade grease, car grease, bearing grease. They all work well and you don't need a lot. Just enough to coat the areas that are rubbing in the fan, like the shaft of the fan.

    first off, why did you skip the part where you actually open it up which is the part people find most difficult? i'm down to a single screw that has a head ^ shaped like a triangular pyramid with rounded edges so you can't grip it with anything.

    • @justmike57
      @justmike57  4 роки тому

      You can buy the specialty tools with those odd shapes at Home Depot or most hardware stores. But I have found if you have a small headed screwdriver, you can still get them out. The video was getting to long and had to cut is back, but once you think you have all the screws out, you just start to pull or pry carefully to get it open and also watching that you didn't miss another screw that might be holding it together still Carbon Crank.

    • @jackhammer111
      @jackhammer111 4 роки тому +1

      @@justmike57 Sorry mike. You don't seem to be getting the point. The part you skipped is the hardest part of getting it apart. Of course, you can get it apart if you can get all the screws out but there are 2 that no screwdriver is going to remove. It has no slots of any kind and is shaped as I said. It's not like the one you show. Others have mentioned these fasteners that are there just to keep you from being able to get it apart thinking it will make you buy a new one. I got it apart yesterday. I went nuclear on it. I took my angle grinder and cut at the seam where those screws were and cut through them. It worked and the cut doesn't look too bad. I wanted to clean it because it's at least 8 years old but I also wanted to see if I could fix the oscillating mechanism. I thought cleaning and lubing would free it up but as it turns out the problem is internal to the motor. The motor has an internal gear reduction mechanism and it's jumping cogs. I may see if I can get a motor for it now that I know I can get it apart again in probably ten minutes. BTW, you can leave about half the screws out without it affecting anything. It's really impossible to get these kinds of fan blades completely clean but getting most of it off greatly increases the amount of air it will move. Blows great, just doesn't turn. 😒

    • @justmike57
      @justmike57  4 роки тому

      @@jackhammer111 I am glad you have some nuclear in you to get the job done. It anything, I would have tried drilling the screw head off. I just figure, if there is a will, there is a way. And like I also say, it was already broke, so give it a try to save yourself money.
      I have found, if you can spray the blades down with a good cleaner and let them soak, then bring it into the shower with hot water spraying on all the blades as you turn it, there will be a lot of that dust/dirt/oily mess coming off the blades. It surprised me.
      Anyways I am happy you got it apart and got it cleaned and lubed. And about the screws being to many, they are there to keep it closed and tight so it will not make any noise or hurt someone's child and get sued over it. But for the most part, the fan is yours now to do with as you want or need and you have a good brain on your shoulders to keep your place safe.

    • @jackhammer111
      @jackhammer111 4 роки тому

      @@justmike57 I see now that the reason they rounded the top and rounded the edges of the shape is so you could not get a drill bit to catch hold. It would just keep sliding off. It's tight. remember, it basically snaps together.there are no gaps. they have so many screws to keep it rigid in shipping and handling and it's probably less likely to break if you knocked it over.. so I won't knock it over. thanks for your responses. we're just working-class people getting along with what we've got. there's one like it for sale about 15 miles from me for 20 bucks.
