    Malcolm's part on this is crazy hard for me to play right I've been at it for ever now. I think I got it right once. One night many moons ago. God be my witness. I'll take that back. Thank you for your work and dedication to the rhythm master.

    Honestly, Malcolm's part is waaay harder to play than Angus' in Thunderstruck. Having to keep that steady rythym and picking pattern for over a minutes and a half without tripping up is not easy. Once you get hammer on and pull offs down, Angus' bit becomes pretty easy.

      Agreed!! I did 50 takes on this. Kept screwing up!

      I was thinking the same thing about Angus vs Mal's parts. It's like Gone Shooting; difficult to keep it going and be consistent. It might sound easy but it definitely is not. Some great riffs in there too. They could have written three songs out of those riffs. This is one of those songs that don't sound right without two guitars.
      Thanks, M.P. great job, as always.

      Yeah but Angus doesn't play the intro and main riff using hammer ons and pull offs, he picks the whole thing

      I agree with that but on the other hand I enjoy sitting back and playing rhythym guitar

      @@cirrus393That is hard. You have to be pretty warmed up to keep your picking hand and fretting hand in sync with all that repetition, doing it cleanly. It's not merely pull-offs and hammer-ons as a previous poster stated.

    Wow, this is really tricky! And we all thought Malcolm was just standing with his back to the Marshall amps relaxing when Angus did the work 👍 respect

    This is such a hard song to play accurately and in time but you've done another brilliant job. Thanks for the insight

      Thanks Tony. I did about 50 takes on this to get it decent...Timing is still suspect in some spots.

    Nice! this song is hard and you played it incredible. I noticed that Malcolm played it like power chords live but it's really the same

    Damn! This song more than any other, at least in my mind shows Malcolms greatness. I’ve given up even trying this one. Way beyond my feeble skills🤣

    that was amazing. Best Thunderstruck Malcolm cover i've ever seen. You dont miss any up and down picking and with perfect rhythm/timing. The tone...brilliant. raw sound. congratulations.
    Probably u know this version but i recommend to you to listen Thunderstruck Malcolm 2000-09-13 Arizona. FM Sound. I think its my favorite live of this riff.

    This is by far the best sounding tutorial on Malcolm's Thunderstruck part I've seen. I was thinking on making my own tutorial on it but now maybe I don't have to, because this sounds quite convincing. It's really tricky to play though, especially getting the sort of muted/non-muted thing going. I've been experimenting with hybrid picking, where the pick plays the A string while you're finger picking the D and G strings. That way you don't have to palm mute and it sounds very percussive, and the G string also sounds very clear. But it's way more difficult to play tight compared to just using the pick.

    • @malpractice5904
      @malpractice5904  5 місяців тому

      Thanks man!! Yeah this one is definitely tricky to get right. I’m not convinced I’m doing it exactly like Mal did. There is definitely the muted/non muted thing going on. Listening to the isolated track and then the live isolated is a bit different. If you’re good at finger picking(I’m not) that’s probably the most efficient way to play it.

    • @astral_brain
      @astral_brain 5 місяців тому

      @@malpractice5904 Yeah, it's the biting percussive tone that Malcolm gets which is hard to replicate 100% with only a pick & palm muting. In that way hybrid picking sounds closer, but I'm not nailing it 100% either. It's a real mystery!

    I find that on guitar some of the easiest sounding songs are actually the most difficult. I never underestimate the musicianship in simpler bands. Sometimes simple is both genius and technical wizardry.

    That rythm pattern at the begining is crazy! When I first heard the isolated track it even sounded like a kind of minimalist avantgarde drone! Thanks for your lesson. One question about the roller bridge in your guitar: is it good mantaining intonation? I'm about to build a Les Paul kit and looking for parts to improve I came across a bridge like this and I thought it was really cool looking. Is it worth? Thanks again!

    • @malpractice5904
      @malpractice5904  13 днів тому +1

      Thank you! I seems to keep the intonation in line pretty well. Can’t really adjust it though if it got of whack.

    Great job. I understood Mal played the B chord with hybrid picking. Using his fingers to pick the D & G strings and his pick on the A! Reckon it was hard before?! I am still in awe of the master for this one.
