    I grew up on a farm here in the states, Illinois, and never did I ever realize the amount of money it takes to keep a farm going and I doubt that a lot of people do to this day! Bless you, Tom, and your family for all that you do, and thank you for sharing with all of us...

      I never really understood the need for all the agriculture grants until I started watching Tom. I can see how those AG grants really help small farmers modernize and grow.

    • @thetessellater9163
      @thetessellater9163 3 роки тому +1

      @@digsindirt4490 - Better that the grants go directly to small family farms like this one. Well run, and part of the local rural business networks, and the community at large. It is when industrialised mega-farms get grant money I cringe. For these, the money goes to the wealthy investors, shareholders, often flowing abroad or to one of Britain's Tax Havens, and does little for the local community. And we let this happen and continue !

    I worked on a dairy farm in the late ‘70’s that concreted channels along the back of the milk stalls then installed 50hp electric motor to pull/push over a mile of chain and drags through the channels to seep away the muck. We would just shove what cows had bad aim into the channel and away it went! It worked perfectly for over 30 years without issues!

    Love the longer video. I forget that not everyone is familiar with brick layers and building block walls. in the Western U.S. Block walls are most common type of enclosure for residential property due to the sun exposure. What they did in this video could be built 6 ft (1.8288m) in a day no problem. There really isn't a lot to it. It makes for long back breaking days.

    you should render your blocks to stop them rotting over time, also add a little wier/kerb to hold some liquid in the bottom to help it from getting too thick with it being so shallow or add a manhole in the end slat so you can flush the channel out. make sure you bed the precast slats on some sand and cement to stop them rocking.

    Yeehaw.
    First, hope ye all feel better soon.
    Second, if you keep the out let of the channels into the sump high so there is always water in the channel the slurry will float along and not stick in it.
    Third , I swear by automatic scrapers. have Dairymaster scrapers with 14 years and twice they needed attention of just wearing parts. Hell of a lot handier than jumping up on a scraper tractor everyday. Less labour. You’ll never regret it after putting them in.
    I hope this finds you well.

    Much better. You stayed on point and summed it up. 👍 Good job.

      As an 🇺🇸 living on the west coast, i do struggle with your accent and how incredibly fast you speak! I once sat near some rowdy Brit boys on an airplane, and when i tried to greet them,, I could barely understand a single word they said!!!
