    Sorry I fell in love with Kayak Fishing the first time I went in 2014. I bought a used Hobie Outback and have since purchased a Hobie Pro Angler. I alway tell people to start slow, do research, don’t buy all the fancy accessories as soon as you start out. You will figure out what you need as you go. Thanks for the great videos Alex! They are always informative and entertaining!

    I started kayak fishing three years ago. At first I wasn't so sure because I was fishing out of my daughters little pelican kayak. Once I purchased a fishing kayak I can't get enough of being out on the water. Spending the money on a pedal drive or having a trolling motor sure does help. I have a pedal drive and with that I can spend much more time fishing than navigating with a paddle. Great video Aliex, good luck out there!

    Great video man!! I recently got into the sport and my coworker gave me a wilderness systems pamlico tandem kayak and at first I wasn’t a big fan of it just bc it was really unstable but I out a set of outriggers in it and I am loving it! Granted it may not be the best kayak for fishing but I think it’s a good kayak to jet into the sport and the best thing is that it was FREE, I am planning on getting a fishing yak down the road

    I’ve never owned or been in a fishing kayak but think it’s time I get started.
    I might not even start with an actual “fishing” kayak. I need something really light weight and for now I’ll be fishing really small water with foot access.
    If it works out I’ll probably get another one and step up to bigger water.

    My wife and I shared a 14’ canoe for a year. I called it the divorce boat. You can’t have two captains at once. Kayaks are one man boats. One captain! Now she’s got a Lifetime Tamarack 100 that she likes. I think she’d prefer the 11’ version better but she’s happy. I have the Ascend 128x. I’m more comfortable in it. High end kayaks and power systems have gotten so expensive and heavy when fully rigged, to the point you may as well get a full size boat. Only caveat is being able to fish slightly skinnier water. If you have to trailer your yak due to size and weight ,you defeat the purpose.

      Just buy a moken. 12 ft long about 75 lbs and less than a grand. Sure you gotta paddle but who cares? I wouldn't have bought a kayak if I was opposed to paddling. Some of these folks want to load up there boat to do everything and it becomes cumbersome.
      Kind of like the folks who put 12lbs of attachments on an AR15.

    I stopped Kayak fishing because of this one time.
    I was in the middle of the water at our cottage in Muskoka, Ontario Canada.
    I had just had a bite and I set the hook. I looked back at my girlfriend on the dock and I flipped in the water. I was losing most of my stuff while fighting a fish. (it was a Nothern Pike). It ruined my (kayak) experience. The Kayak also was not stable at all which is another reason. I watched your video and now I see that they have super sturdy and stable kayaks now. I really want to buy one and try again. Thanks man!

    A kayak control problem also applies row boats with oars or standard trolling and gas motors. An anchor or trolling is the only way to deal with the wind or current in these cases. ( no auto pilot)
    The lack of space on my 11' sit on top fin drive kayak can be trying at times. All boats have pros and cons. Portability, simplicity, exercise, shallow draft and wind resistance make this type of boat enjoyable.

      One other piece of advice. In my case, trying a sit inside kayak, after 30 minutes of paddling, my lower back was killing me. Go with a seat that sits up higher and peddle drive. Paddle for exercise. The Hunks Maui Maui paddles nicely.

  • @austinhernandez2716

    Kayaks are much cheaper. You don't have to have a motor, so they don't have to have fuel, which is good right now with the very high gas prices. Kayaks are much easier to transport. You don't have to have a trailer. You can even carry a kayak on top of a small car, which also saves gas. In my home state of Georgia, you don't even have to register a kayak unless you put a motor on it. Kayaks are very personal too, since it's only for one person, for you. Kayaks can also go in very shallow water or narrow rivers or streams.

With a boat I would need a trailer and a boat drop off which is more of a pain for me. • @RonDevito
    @RonDevito 2 роки тому +1

    I considered it and did a fair amount of research. For me, NO. In the Raritan Bay area, the water is cold most of the year. Throw in the almost daily small craft advisories we get up here. Throw in that my house doesn't have a proper garage and driveway. I'd have to hump 85 - 110 lb of hull up a flight stairs using two sets of ramps, then navigate it through a 2-ft walkway between houses. By the time you get a GOOD kayak with pedal drive and even some minimal accessories (two rod holders, an anchor, a fish finder and mount), you're $3K to $4K in. To use it what? Two days a year? I can go on a party boat for less than $100 / trip and not have to deal with all the logistics of humping a 'yak up and down flights of stairs and through a stupid walkway.

    • @RonDevito
      @RonDevito 2 роки тому

      .... and I know about inflatables ... and considered those. I don't think inflatable craft mix well with toothy fish and sharp fishing tackle. I'm not sure running around what is basically the Atlantic Ocean in an inflatable is such a good idea unless you have a rare perfectly calm day.

    I wish you guys were local to me. I have so many questions as I research and look to getting my first and last kayak before retirement, but it would be quite a drive to reach you from Pennsylvania, lol.
    I'm pretty set on the Big Fish 120, but I bounce back and forth between that one, the Vibe Shearwater 125 and the Feel free Lure 115. It's a lot of money and I'm natured, with every large purchase I make, to research and educate myself in order to make the best choice the first time, rather than having to do it all over again to spend even more money the second time around to get what I should have gotten in the first place. These three kayaks are at the top of my list, and it's difficult to decide.

    I DON'T LIKE KAYAKS ... Because you have to SIT on the Floor ... It's a One Person craft ! ... You have NO Space ... A wake can Swamp you ... Rough water can capsize you ... Standing up is difficult ... It's easy to Lose stuff ... Standing up is Iffy ... You have to Lift it In and Out ... Water gets inside ... It's Plastic ... a Boat is more Stable and Versatile ! ... You can't go Fast ! ... Don't fall off ! ... Used Boats are Cheap and Safer ! ... Two to four people can enjoy and move around a Boat with Comfort !

    Can't go through the weeds wants to go over the top, legs straight out front, can't reach much and pretty much at water level. So no barrier between you and limbs, gators, bug filled growth. The only people that like them are the ones that spent good money on one and gotta modify and justify it.

      I bought a 650$ kayak and loved it so much I sold my bass tracker. The only thing I've added to it is 2 extra rod holders. Way to many people think they have to spend 3000$ on a kayak then start adding motors,batteries, anchor systems and peddles. Just my opinion it would be better for those people just to buy a second hand bass boat.
