The Story of Two Baby Rabbits

  • My mother found two baby rabbits abandoned on our lawn while she was mowing the lawn. We figured that something must have happened to the mother since they don't typically leave their offspring behind. We decided that we should foster the rabbits at least until they are large enough to survive in the wild on their own. We brought them into the house and they ended up being the cutest little pets anyone could ask for!
I will make an update on them in a couple of months.

"since they don't typically leave their offspring behind" Actually, the mother bunny leaves the babies to eat, and comes back at dawn or dusk to feed them. She leave them otherwise it would attract predators if they saw her in one spot all the time. Also, it's not good to re-release rabbits into the wild after they've been handled by people, because they don't know how to survive (Their mother would've taught them). Lastly, I am a hypocrite, because I totally took in a wild baby rabbit before I learned that it was a bad idea.

It's tempting to think that you can help out - but I reckon it's always best to leave healthy wild creatures alone

Introducing them to the dog and cat scared the poor buns to death. They are tiny prey. Did you see the cat lick his lips after seeing the bunnies. Made me shudder.

You ‘figured’ something happened to the mother... she probably went off so she wouldn’t attract predators to her precious babies. So now there is possibly a broken hearted rabbit mother unable to find her babies whom she has loved very much. Wow, so ‘thoughtful’.

This video was already 8 years old. I hope these bunnies lived for as long as they wanted. I always get sad to the fact that rabbits are just preys in the wild and have so many predators. So helpless. If only they'd be aggressive they could lessen those deaths and help others in need. Only thanks for their fast reproduction they didn't get endangered in count and outnumbered others. I hope bunnies get aggressive and learn how to fight back and always outwit enemies that surely threatens their life.

At that age/size, they can probably manage without their mother, but it's not a huge deal. They seem to be happy and healthy. Cute video.

I once saved a family of rabbits from a horrible storm in my home state of Texas a field had flooded and I was wrangling the cattle to safety when I noticed a mother rabbit going insane I approached and she ran wash a few feet inside the nest were 6 baby rabbits drowning in the water as it filled up I rescued them quickly putting them inside my truck the mother was hysterical she was divided between he instincts to run and help her children I managed to catch her after a short chase and put her in a dog crate I happened to have the babies I bottle fed the mother eventually began to trust me but always was wary the babies grew older and one day I released the whole lot of them to my surprise they stayed in my yard except for the mother who took of the babies now grown stayed in my yard and fed on my garden which I was fine with as I was for fun not food as they got older they wandered further and further but always returning eventually until one day they stopped coming back about a year after releasing them on of the rabbits who I had named thumper wa stone for an entire month I was used to this the stayed away for long periods of time but eventually I realized he wasn’t coming back one by one the same thing occurred with the others some rabbits came every day some came every few weeks but eventually they all stopped when I was down to one rabbit I debated capturing her something I was capable of as they still let me pet them but I realized that to cage them was wrong and they deserved freedom after another week my last rabbit left for the last time I was sad that such an experience was over but happy that I had such an experience with these noble creatures

You guys should've left the bunny alone. Usually the mother leaves the babies so that she will not attract predators
