  • Mayor Jacobs Interviews U.S. Representative Tim Burchett
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs concludes his video series observing April as National County Government Month with an interview with U.S. Representative Tim Burchett. The previous videos highlighted local, state and federal leaders and their duties and responsibilities.
“I think it’s important that folks understand how the different levels of government operate and interact,” Mayor Jacobs said. “All too often we think only of federal government, but state and local government can have an even bigger impact on our lives.”
In the interview, Mayor Jacobs and Representative Burchett discussed why he decided to run for office, the intricacies of passing a bill through congress and what motivates him to continue to serve the public.
“I realize that every night I go out and look at that dome over the capitol and I think, Wow. Charlie and Joyce Burchett’s baby boy is a United States Congressman. You know I’m standing on some pretty cool shoulders. I think about my parents a lot and hope they’d be proud.” Burchett Said.
The Mayor began the series in an interview with Knox County Commission Chair Courtney Durrett and KCS Board Chair Kristi Kristy . Mayor Jacobs then discussed the role of state government during discussions with District 14 Tennessee State representative Jason Zachary, as well as District 6 Tennessee State senator Becky Duncan Massey. Mayor Jacobs then sat down for an interview with U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn in the penultimate video in the series.
The Mayor expanded local interviews to include state and federal leaders to provide viewers with a window into public service at even higher levels.
All videos in the series have appeared on the county and Mayor’s social media platforms and can be found at www.knoxcounty.org.
National County Government Month is an annual celebration of county government held each April to promote services and programs while providing insight into what elected officials do and how government works.
