Definitely the most challenging for me. I am way better than I was almost a year ago. Had similar difficulties over half century ago, attempting to learn piano. Some wonderful family donated a Hammond organ with headphones to the elementary school and we had a schedule of turns for students who wanted to play. 4th grade I believe. I played star spangled banner for the parent/teacher organization concert. One handed. The family that donated it, their son played some Betoven number. Using skills to emulate the various instrumental parts. Kenny Wolf(e) I think. Gee, if I could only remember what day the garbage goes out, that’d be great. 😂😂😂
It took me 5 years to learn to strum like an expert, because I was using numbers and up and down charts too rigidly even had lessons for a year. Then one day I tried freestyle and followed the drum beat. That day changed my life.Learning Golden Brown by the Stranglers this week. This is a great lesson and has many good tips, have subscribed.
I always feel this is best done with muted strings as we (novice guitarists) think too much about the chord changes and end up in a sort of staccato rhythm.
I'm just learning guitar, playing a nylon string classical. I don't use a pick, only my thumb. I can strum down/up just fine. But try as I might I can't master the D/U U/D pattern. And that's too bad cause I like the sound of DU UD. Every...single...time my arm goes down, I hit those strings. It's frustrating but I suppose if I continue to work with it, it'll come to me someday. 🤔
I am very new to guitar. I am working on my strumming now. Can you please please please post the strumming Patterns so i can download it, please. Smiles.
Hi, this is probably a dumb thing to say, but “I struggle with using a guitar pick!” There, I feel better for saying it, BUT the proper pick usage just doesn’t feel right to me. I use my finger tip of my right hand, which means I play very softly/quietly. I “Travis Pick” to hide my lack of pick playing, but there are times (hybrid picking) where using a pick seems essential. I’m sure I’m not the only one out there, so do you have any surefire pick pointers for the proper use of a plectrum? I’m joking a little here, but it is an issue I’m having difficulty with. I’ve even drilled holes in some picks to get a better feel for what I’m playing, but I still feel a real disconnect from what I’m playing when I use a pick. Any words of wisdom, with minimal mocking, would be appreciated. I am a Subscriber, and I thoroughly enjoy your down-to-Earth approach to teaching.
Fennah... you are the best. You bring simple bad habits into perspective and put us on the right track within minutes.
The No 1 bad habit is the swinging arm technique

You brighten up the dullest day with your humour.
Thanks for the lesson mate. Once again top job.
P.S. Love the white board had to pause and read some of the stuff, couldn't help it, I like it.
