This song is like an anthem in Greece. We still listen to it. I guess for Greeks it's the favorite Eurovision entry even

Speak for yourself. Favourite Eurovision entry for others was Helena Paparizou, My No.1.

Apparently the saxophone player was a last minute replacement, but even with that issue the song merited much more than 13th place. It was one of the best Eurovision sung performances I think and the song stays in the memory. So underated !

Anixi is my favourite Greek entry and it deserved a top 10 placing! The song is still popular in Greece!

This was, vocally, the best song Greece has ever sent to Eurovision.
The Sax guy messed up realy bad.
They had a Greek Saxophone player who got sick and never made the trip.
They found one in Italy, and whatever the reason I don't remember, he couldn't participate. And this was at the final moment. So they found a guy who was, as it was sadly proven, very very bad.
    Unfortunately.

Back then there were only judges from each country and the public didn't vote. For some reason the judges didn't usually rate us highly and it was very difficult to get into the top ten. When televoting started in 2000 everything changed for us and we were usually in the top ten.
By the way, this is the favorite song of the Greeks from our eurovision entries.

You should react to Greece Eurovision 1993, Ellada Chora Tou Fotos by Keti Garbi/ Ελλάδα Χώρα Του Φωτός - Καίτη Γαρμπή official video clip and on stage at Eurovision.

The orchestra isn't hers. Is from Eurovision. Sofia Vossou, a great, unique singer. One of the best songs ever in Eurovision!

From 1956 to 1998 all performances from every country had to perform with a full live orchestra provided by the host country. Each country would send a conductor and singer or group to perform the song. Unfortunately, in 1998, a rule change allowed the use of a backing track instead of the live orchestra. 4 or 5 countries decided to use backing tracks, including France . During rehearsals, France decided to use the live orchestra. The 1998 winning song for Israel used a backing tack for the song Diva. As the host country for 1999, Israel had rules changed, and each country had to use a backing track.
The 1991 contest was held at the Cinecittà Studios, a large film studio in Rome, Italy. The stage set was bits of different movie sets.

      * some countries, especially in the 90s, wouldn’t send their conductor and the hosting broadcaster would provide theirs.

Back in the day many things were live, like the orchestra (which all had). That however meant that if something went wrong (like the sax guy) the song suffered!

For me it was number one that year, but we came in 13 position because the nordic countries vote among themselves, on the other hand, they accuse us of exchanging votes with Cyprus! But how many are the scandinavian countries?
