you poor soul... but then again when you're a kid any version of a coin op was fun. I loved the atari version of Pac-Man at age 3 even after I played the coin op. Kinda miss that mind set :)
Wah Wish You Wah !! 1:34 to 2:23 "the worst" battle with Karnov ever seen. And I mean... ever !! You do not try to jumo over Karnov, you are supposed to go up and down while hitting him with your super charged punch. Damn!! he, he, he, I'm sorry but I had to say it.
I would have loved to do that but the problem is with the size of the video. it would have doubled the size of the video itself. I generally find that most visual & audio differences can be demonstrated well in the 1st level. Plus ! It helps to inspire people to play these old games again to see what they are missing. ^_^ Thanks for the comment
It seems like Atari and Amiga did a pretty good port for the time, but the Atari was too slow and the Amiga was too fast. Also, it would have been better to not try to add the music at all.
Thanks ! :) I'm glad You are enjoying them. Also ! If You so choose You are free to download them & keep them for Your collection. Please do a KARNOV comparison whenever you can. Actually the 1st boss in Dragon Ninja, called Burnov, is inspired from the Karnov game. Thanks and keep up the great work! :)
I spilt Lucozade on my C64 cassette. It still loaded but somehow I could jump/leap through the levels without dying. Still have it in the attic somewhere!
The Nes version i always thought was the best Home version to be released it was fast paced very playable the graphics was about as good as what the Nes could handle still a good game to play i think.....another top upload man.
Quite fun, but I have to know... why is Karnov grey in the MS-DOS version? I only played the NES version (loved it) so seeing these others is quite nice. Do you know if the other versions had the charge punch that the NES version did? I thought I saw it on the Atari ST version (which also has some moves the NES one didn't) and the Amiga version too.
not sure. I used 4 different versions of the emulator & 5 versions of the software but none of them had the music. Not sure why. This video was a 6 month process because of several problems like this. :(
I had the ST version, it was the first game of its type I beat with one credit without cheats/extra credits. I liked the game very much and it was one of the best arcade conversions for the ST. The problem was with the SLOW ASS scrolling and it was factor even then. Still, IMO it was the best version (other than the Arcade of course). Which is something not often said about the ST.
Arcade: It's the original Apple II: It's bad MSX: It's badder. ZX Spectrum: It's smoother than the last one. Amstrad: It's unpleasant. MS-DOS: It's crazy! Commodore 64: It's got bad hit detection. NES: It's got better music. Atari ST: It's slow Amiga: It's the winner!
LOL I just came here to hear that NES "I'M BAD" all over again. It must have been funny back then with the system limitations. What did the devs think after they played back that sound bite. "Good enough!" lol.
I'm a bit disappointed that the Amiga version is running on 512KB RAM and not 1MB. the extra RAM enables music during the stage and brings back the female ninjas also, unlike the arcade version, you can use the fire punch while walking.
Cool game, but the title sounds too childish (but then again it's from the 80's :D). You have a nice little thing going here with your "Let's Compares", I'm gonna go through your channel and look for some more games I like :)
The NES seems to be the lesser evil. Graphics are acceptable. While it lacks the color of the arcade and some ports, the characters looks nice enough and you can tell things apart. Gameplay is choppy but playable. The movements are rough and the NES has trouble processing the sprites without constant fading. However, the pace is ok and the controls seem more intuitive than most of the other ports. Audio is great. The music is arguably better than even the original arcade, let alone the fact that most of the ports don't even HAVE music. The only real downside is that it's 8-bit so it wouldn't fit with the nicer graphics of the arcade port.
non avevo mai visto la versione per nes...non è affatto male!! discreta la versione amiga e non male quella per c64 anche se aveva problemi di collisione sprite...per il resto buio completo
I wonder why the ST coders for games like this didn't render the extra soft sprites every other frame. This would have introduced flicker, but made the games much more playable and let the CPU catch up.
I remember when I bought a used Amiga 500, this was the first game I played, Amiga and Atari ST version was the closest to the arcade version, in fact those are the only three versions that were far better than the other, Atari ST version is the same as but slower for the Amiga, Apple 2 version is a shame, poor graphics and physics, MSX and Spectrum versions were too bad, the rest is not bad, I prefer the Amiga version because it has the best music
The st/amiga versions looked almost arcade perfect in static screenshots....then you played them. The st one was stupidly slow and the amiga one was just a very slightly faster st port. There was a bit where you had to jump between train carriages, and the input lag made it almost impossible to time the jump. The nes port doesnt look to shabby, and the speccy version is ok, but the apple 2 version looks really poor, who would play that flickery mess? There is a sharp x68000 version thats almost arcade perfect (like a lot of 80`s arcade games ported to it). This is a game best enjoyed in an arcade or with mame, pretty much all the home conversions outside Japan were sub-par.
Too bad you didn't use power punch when playing arcade. It sounds really cool. "Hot...yeaaah!!". C64 version had good music but very bad gameplay as hitboxes really sucked. Music on Amiga was awesome and it was a good challenge to get it through to the end.
Hows the AMIGA the winner? I know we don't count the arcade in the wars but the AMIGA is a crap ST Port sped up too fast making it almost unplayable with no music. ST I think is the winner on this one. It's got the music and plays better although could use a little speed up like the AMIGA di on it's ST Port but not as fast.
We can all agree that Commodore 64 version is the best all around. Love the hi-res sprites (they pulled off the main character PLUS the enemies (!)), the music (how did they manage to do this I do not know), fluid movements (even better than arcade) and overall delivery. Even better than 16 bit Amiga. Also, I believe it was dubbed 'Dragon Ninja' for c64 as well.
Most of the characters in the c64 version use redefined keyboard characters with high res single color sprites. Thats why the moving graphics are so sketchy,... it moves part of the images 8 pixels at a time and other parts 1 pixel at a time.
Had this on my Speccy, C64 and Amiga. Also wasted hours on the arcade machine lol. The collision detection was awful on 8-Bit! The Amiga version was ok.
ain't that the truth !? Imagine My suprise when I got on the internet for the 1st time & started learning about the hidden history I was not taught about in school & realizing that 95% of what I learned was doctored or completely inaccurate from the moment I 1st learned it.
Where did my original comment go lol? Anyways I can agree about loading times, but that is pretty much all there is for the NES version, sorry. I mean look at how jerky everything looks and moves in the NES version. And now compare to C64 version - the superior soundtrack, bass sound, even graphically it looks way more polished and overall plays better and smoother than NES and all the other versions.
The NES version plays like the arcade game, in both pacing and controls. The twtichy animation and inaccurate controls take the fun out of the game. And I don't see how the C64 soundtrack is superior, seeing as its not even using the right music. I'm guessing your also in the delusional "The Amiga version of MK1 is better than the Genesis version!" camp too.
I am not knowledgable about Mortal Kombat cause I never was a huge fan of it. I do have a strong C64 bias as far as 8bit is concerned, but I am also a huge Nintendo fan so if anything, I should be in the 'NES version is better' camp, but in this specific example I am not. I made a side by side screenshot to better understand my view: i.imgur.com/U7aX28M.png - the overall graphical art direction, the choice of colors and illusion of depth is way better done in C64 version. In NES version the graphic patterns are all over the place, it is a mess to look at, and the music is 'pointy', in lack of better words. The C64 soundtrack has depth in bass and sound quality, nicer to listen at while playing.
