@@bloodybee3553 Im confused, im talking about when she calls him an Ace in the hole he doesn't know what it is. So he can be it and not know, but he surely didn't know what that meant. And I dont take anything Viv says as Canon until its Canonically in the show. That saves the headache of all the things she spouts off in a live stream going back and changing when the show comes out.
@@KeeleTasume I would agree on the thing about not believing everything Viv claims in live streams, except for the fact that confirming him asexual isn't just a one off joke. It is a character detail that she has confirmed time and time again, even discussing the original love interests for him, before she decided to make him asexual.
And yes, the term "ace in the hole" did exist in his time. It's a card game term, and also used in a way to refer to some kind of secret winning move. So he definitely knows the term, just not the way Rosie used it

You asked why everybody seems to like Alastor, and it's is more or less because of self-selection. His friends out live everyone else, his foes scream in the broadcast.
That and alastor is manipulative and knows how to make connections to get what he wants (ie, charlie). But Rosie seems like she actively aid eachothers reputation, death's and souls they would own as mutual overlords. But despite this their friendship is prob genuine in a fucked up way like two psychos sticking together from the looks of it
"Angelic steel isn't common", forgot to add "in hell", it's actually so common in heaven the exorcists don't always care to retrieve their own weapons, meaning the amount of angelic steel in hell only increases ON extermination day.
Rosie's personality seems like it was designed like the only sin she's guilty off is cannibalism. Literally, if you look past the cannibalism (which you should never look past irl), she's a good person.

I’m sure it’s been mentioned before, but going off of the Ace in The Hole joke- yes, Alastor is canonically Ace. A lot of people also headcanon that he’s AroAce, but that’s not actually canon. Charlie, Sir Pentious, and Cherry Bomb are Bi, Vaggie is Lesbian, Husk is Pan, Angel is Gay, and Nifty is Straight.

I don't think the show was trying to say Charlie's feelings aren't well founded or that she should sweep them aside for love... They're handling them in the scene itself. Addressing it by saying "If you're unsure whether you can trust the support of your partner, then try this method to decide whether you can"

I'm just glad to hear him defending Charlie and how she feels because a lot of reactions I've seen have called Charlie out for being "unreasonable" over something that is incredibly reasonable.
I totally agree with Matthew on this, but I also understand that the creators had to include A LOT of stuff in just 8 episodes and couldn't flesh this out that much. But yes, 100% lying is also an action and Charlie is totally justified in feeling this way

So, one of the important things that came up between Vaggie and Carmilla is that the angels themselves don't know their own weapons can kill them. As a result they have a habit of leaving some of their weapons behind after each extermination. Carmilla's made a business out of gathering those weapons and selling them herself. As a result she has plenty of angelic steel available and can make whatever weapons her clients prefer.
Carmilla was also reluctant to give even information because if word got out that she killed the angel/knew how to then Adam and his forces would make killing her and her people a priority.
The thing is though, and this was pointed out by another creator, Vaggie was harmed by Lute who had an angelic weapon to cut out Vaggie's eye and cut off her wings. I think if they had re-worded Vaggie's 'no' to be a 'I thought only angels could harm other angels' and then have Carmilla say that it didn't matter who wielded the angelic weapons, it was the angelic weapons that mattered, it could have eliminated that minor plot hole
@@Ginnyrules27 While I agree they should have been more clear about what they meant by 'harmed' you'll notice Vaggie's wings are back and judging by her lack of surprise or reaction she likely knew they would be back/had been ready to be back for a while. Given the trauma of the incident she likely just didn't make the connection or thought that eyes were an exception.
@@Ginnyrules27 The reason this confuses Vaggie isn't that she's surpised angelic weapons can hurt her but rather that she didn't realize angelic weapons could still hurt angels while being held by demons.
I.E, it made sense in her mind that Lute could hurt her because Lute is an angel. She assumes Lute could just as easily have poked her eye out with a twig. She didn't realize it was actually the angelic steel that was dispelling the protection over her in any way.

Not to mention half of Al's friends are also overlords who no doubt have done at least semi-similar deals before or mimsy who has know him since literally before death.
This. Like, at some point they're just gonna see each other as flawed equals and deal with things as they happen. You can't expect to have perfect friends in hell, but if you enjoy their presence, you enjoy their presence.
A favour from charlie might be more valuable than her soul, cause whoever owns her soul (other than herself) gets themselves in a ton of trouble with Lucifer...

@@langdonledwig3734 OR deals are actually MORE strictly binding when you're that high up hell's hierarchy, in Helluva Boss they note that one of the Sins signing a contract is everlastingly binding.
And wording is important. A favour could be “stand down”. Technically it would qualify because she’s not directly harming anyone just allowing him to.

*Spoilers* In answer to a couple of your questions Mathew:
Rosie is the Overlord who rules over the Cannibal Town part of hell. So in all likelyhood, she owns the souls of pretty much everyone in Cannibal Town.
Carmine is the Overlord who rules over Illegal Arms Dealings, so it's less she's actually fighting, and more that she's providing the weapons.
and 3rd: Lucifer and Charlie don't really use their status within hell, which is why while most people may know who they are, they don't really respect their status. It's the same reason Valentino went off on Angel Dust a few episodes back when Charlie tried to get him to give Angel a day off. Their Status as King and Princess of Hell is more of a laughing stock than one that is actually respected.
Charlie is too chicken to use any of her status, even the parts that she should, while Lucifer is holed up in his tower and doesn't come out, ever. Ahhh this dysfunctional family
Carmine is an angelic weapons dealer broo, harvests the spears from the yearly killing dead bodies and melts em down to sell

Its worth noting they originally had 16 episodes for this season, and it got cut in half thats why a lot of stuff like Charlie and Vaggie's relationship is being rushed. Honestly, i think they did incredibly well with this show, considering their episode list got cut in half

I love the friendship between Alastor and Rosie so much. I think you’re forgetting that most people in Hell, especially the overlords, are also horrible people, so that’s why they’re not put off by Alastor being essentially a mass murderer.
If you don't wanna leave the Hazbin-Hell yet, you can still watch the Helluva Boss UA-cam Series. It's not story related to Hazbin Hotel, but it takes place in the same Hell.
In regards to Alastor, we have been told that, while he was a serial killer, he also had a bit of a moral code (like Dexter from Dexter) though iirc it's not like a standard moral code.
Yaeh, he basically has his own standards he lives up to as a gentleman. He doesnt kill or maim anyone like a mindless monster just because; he acts when given a reason and only does what he wants in the style he prefers.

Alastor is Asexual and Aromantic but he died before he ever knew that was a thing so he just thinks he hasn’t found the right one not knowing that he’s just not into those things
Actually him being aroace is just a headcanon. His VA even said recently that he had since misspoke and that the only he used the aroace term was that was what the fandom has used for so long now, he also said that since the script itself said he was only ace, then that is what he is. Him being aromantic or aroace is currently unknown. Though it’s still a high probability that he is both. But right now he’s only been confirmed as asexual.

Alastor is canonically AroAce. Also Alastor has a twisted sense of morality, and though he has very few morals he does have them. You should check out the prequel comics, they show Alastor and Angel Dust's lives before they joined the hotel. Alastor is definitely a sinister and sadistic force, and we cannot truly know his motives, but I think he is earnest in trying to help Charlie.

When you're asking about Alastor and why people tend to like him, yes he is charming. And yes it's well-known he's a serial killer and cannibal, but this is Hell. A lot of people have done similarly horrific things, especially the people at his level. I wouldn't say he's well-liked necessarily, but definitely feared and respected.

Matthew you make a good point about Charlie having reason to doubt at 19:20 but you must remember, Rosie is trying to get Charlie in the headspace required to recruit an army for a rapidly approaching battle. Sweeping concerns under the rug for After they survive the battle is important
I think Cannibal Colony is a metaphor. I think they are the strange people that in life marched to their own beat that society just took a massive dump on. Effectively eating them alive socially. Now in Hell they have come together and formed a town where anyone that enters their territory and does not march to their beat gets eaten alive in reality. I don't think Viv thinks real world cannibals are as common as the colony suggests.
Rosie runs an emporium. But thats not her real job. She is a matchmaker. People probably give her portions of their soul in order to hook them up with someone and that is how she became an Overlord.
There are eyes all over Hell, not just in Cannibal town. It's actually a dominant theme in almost every location.

Due to fact that pride ring has no real laws everyone does what they want ofc lucifer could force stuff but currently they have no obligation to listen ? So i guess what rosie did was help charlie with getting cannibals to listen to her
18:05 Angelic weapons are left behind intentionally by the angels so the Sinners can use them to kill each other.
Carmilla Carmine takes advantage of this by collecting the weapons and melting them down into other weapons like firearms to sell.
Alastor is canonically Ace, he just doesn't know that he is. In his mind he hasn't found the right person yet, which makes sense considering the time period he was alive in, asexuality just wasn't really a thing recognized by society back then.
It's why he didn't understand what Rosie meant by “Ace in the hole”.

The thing is, most people Alastor interacts with that treat him well are either other Overlords, or people like Mimze who knew him in life, and understand how to stay in his good graces.
In the case of the Overlords?
Important to note; most of them likely OWE HIM for their position.
Dude made his career off killing the past Overlords.
Meaning, he's responsible for probably over 80% of all the power vacuums in Hell within the last Century or so.
Also meaning a lot of newer Overlords are in their position because his actions made room for them to step up.
The outliers would be people like Rosie who, if she's a Sinner, seems to be from the Victorian Era, and then you have people like Zestial, who were either too smart, too powerful, or too well connected for Al to kill. Which is a terrifying thought in of itself.
I am vaguely concerned for Carmilla’s safety with Al. She outright disrespected him in front of all the overlords I don’t know if he’ll let that stand long term. Maybe because she is a woman but I dunno

in terms of Alastor being evil to people. its more like a "you do me right ill do you right" type thing. so ya hes an evil SOB and does horrible things to people, but with Rosie and Mimzy. they have never crossed him or done him wrong so he doesn't do them wrong. and over many years they have obviously built a bon and mutual understanding with each other. but like with Mimzy. if they do ever cross the line he has no issue throwing them out.
Great video. DB Z introduced me into the genre. I was so close to visiting Japan one point myself. I had experience with MoCap and in late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. Personally I find the idea that Alastor is annoyed by her irrational rambling - considering she runs a redemption hotel and chose to give him a chance but now her girlfriend being an ex-exterminator is a massive issue even though she doesn't even know why Vaggie was cast out, which turns out to have been because she was a decent person - but just hides it very well, funnier.
Vaggie didn't even lie, she just didn't say it and she didn't *OWE* her her past. So maybe Charlie doesn't owe her forgiveness but there is nothing to forgive considering she didn't even lie.

You should react to Helluva Boss after this lol, it's set in the same world, but focuses on Hellborn (Demons born in hell) rather than sinners.
Alastor is canonically asexual but he just doesn't know he's asexual due to his time period and the fact he is so opposed to modern technology that he hasn't had the resources to find out the label of asexuality is even a thing. Alastor assumes he's heterosexual and has just convinced himself that he hasn't found the right one yet.
However, whether he's aromantic or not is up is a gray area, Fausteese said he was and also said Viv did not want to comfirm out of fear of toxic shipper backlash. Viv also later said not to take Faust's word as cannon. Alastor's VA said on a panel he was aro/ace, but later on twitter backtracked on it and said he "misspoke," Viv was even asked straight up on a old livestream if Alastor was aromantic, and instead of giving a definitive yes or no answer, she refused to answer, but also said she knew the answer at the same time.
In short, Viv does not want to confirm or deny the fact that Alastor is aromantic due to shipper backlash, but considering the all of what I said, tbh I think he is probably aromantic, because why would Viv refuse to answer when asked if he wasn't aromantic? Especially since we know Viv wants to avoid shipping drama. And two people who are/were very close to Viv, worked with Viv, and knew insider infromation have both stated Alastor was aromantic, and Viv said not to take one person's word as cannon, and the other later said he misspoke.
But at the end of the day, it isn't and will likely never truly be 100% confirmed. Which imo, is kinda stupid because actual aro/ace people who are starving for real rep deserve the rep over whiny shippers who are unhappy they can't ship their favorite pairing. But that's just me.

I think Alastors more of morally grey charcter , atleats thats what others have said , so far he only killed ppl who kinda deserved it ig ?? like the overlords who made fun of him (tho there was a theorie that Mimsies story might not have been true so idk for sure), ppl attacking the hotel, and in an old comic he kills a man who was harassing a woman. Also Al an Rosy r good friends , shes an overlord too so i think it makes sense ? She also belongs to a circle of ppl who have a lot of power just like al so i dont see why shed need to be afraid of him. As i said Alastor so far hasnt harmed any1 who hasnt done anything bad to him.
Angels that have been kicked out of Heaven are called Fallen Angels. They appear to have all of their original abilities but may have lost their wings. They seem to be able to regain their wings by way of a moment of self realization. They do appear to lose the ability to open a portal to Heaven if they ever had that power (it may be reserved to higher order Angels who lose it if they fall). Thus they are effectively stranded in Hell. They may disguise themselves as demons to avoid being eviscerated by the residents.
One thing that I see a lot of people constantly edit out of their reactions is when Vaggie says she has never fought with long hair, Carmine takes her hair down to give it a fair fight. Its such an awesome moment that goes by so quick.
Alistor is Aro/Ace the ace in the hole joke was confirming that in Cannon, anyone trying to say it wasn't is just an acephobic a-hole. Also because he's from so long ago, he doesn't actually know what the term ace is, that's why he said 'a what now?'

I get why you'd say Vaggie and Charlie need to talk things out, but take into account they don't have that much time at the moment as stated earlier in the episode. Still, it's still a pretty cool point and could lead to really interesting script choices later on.

One of the most effective interrogation techniques is seeming open and friendly. Seeming nice and setting yourself up as someone who is safe to talk to and befriending the person is scarily effective at getting secrets.

I think the thing with Charlie and Vaggie is that yes Vaggie lied, but despite it all, she never did anything to make Charlie doubt her love for or belief in her. It doesn't feel nice to be lied to, but it doesn't change who Vaggie is, especially since when the truth comes out, she never falters in loving Charlie and helping her cause.
I like how the whole plot is Charlie trying to prove that sinners can be redeemed, meanwhile Mathew is like "Why are these clearly evil people in hell being so nice???"
