God, I'm grateful I grew up in the UK when I did, I was 13 when this was shown, children's BBC was fantastic. A much simpler time, despite challenges and problems, much, much simpler to just be young.
On the plaque, just at the end, his birthday is 8th January, same as mine, but 3 years younger. I remember the character, shocker when he died. Grange Hill was the best school TV series, hands down.
Such a sad moment! Danny was an intelligent lad, he knew the school system and how kids were just sheep, made to obey!! Danny thought for himself, did what he wanted to do and was his own person. Its when you get older you realise what kind of institution a school really is!
It's actually sheep who like Danny take no responsibility or have accountability for themselves whatsoever. Try walking out of school before comprehensive education. They just let you get on with it. Not their f**king problem. The prospects for those not in the grammar school systems were dire. Having an education system that cares enough to chase after you, is a privilege many poor kids from the past never had the luxury of.
wow i remember this, used to be so many good storylines, Danny would be 45 now in real life. 89 woaw. can’t believe it was this long ago. i remember this in particularly.
I remember coming home from secondary school and watching this episode, in my last year before going out into the world. It doesn't seem a long time ago although it clearly is!
It was quite shocking but very real when they all got upset.it was delt with you showing maturity.when I was at school a teacher took there own life strong and nice guy and would take no nonsense of people sad thing was he told me once in private after I had anxiety issues that he had the same issues himself
Haha you sick b'stard, mind you it was a stupid plot ignoring the reality that teachers were on a 2 year strike at the time and one from my school started sexually grooming kids from broken homes, it's ok though as he ended up found in various carrier bags chopped up into little bits which definitely needed the waa waa waa waaaaaa.
@Maguirearch 0 seconds ago Gritty English drama.. with no mushy incidental music which would inevitably be included on any typical tacky USA version ......
Grange Hill started becoming absurd as in reality teachers in UK were on strike from 1985-7 putting us on a 2 day school week for 3 months at one point, not all teachers were bad though, one who cried her eyes out telling us of "the next wave" (talk about de ja vu with these periodical covid attacks) and she assured us she never voted to strike telling us a bunch of virtual strangers turned up (probably Arthur Scargills commie "miners") and tipped the vote to strike which good teachers like her tried to stop. RIP Miss Clarke

You know it's only worse because they want it that way. Beware of they
Danny Kendall was an absolute legend. Knew how the system worked and the machine didn't like it.
Mr Bronson certainly didn't!!!

Poor old Dannys parents, they never got over this to this day . Such a shame . God bless Danny , gone far to soon
I'm sorry? This is fictional
The actor is still alive
This episode of the church bells in the background when planting the tree, was more daunting than when Danny was found dead 😭
Loved the ‘sometime pupil’ bit, cause he skipped school so many times!
It's an old word for former.
Heart breaker back then

Now I think he'd be 47.
Really wow 😮 how time flys, this is when tv was good, I’m glad I grew up with this, I wonder what the cast from all the years are doing now
Jack Swagger thanks for that comment, a years ago I commented ah]gain how time flys. Thanks buddy for that.
@@WelshmanSudios yes.
1989...seems like yesterday
Dave Allum the year kylie came out and the best decade was on its way. Shame technology has changed our lives, so many people these days alone.

imagine how many memorials would be goin on like this on a daily basis in modern 2024 Britain.....kids are butchering each other on a daily basis....
The Speaking Wall was the comments section of its time...
A series that should have ended with Bronson's departure..left as a classic..
RIP DANNY KENDALL
Why wasn’t Roland invited to the memorial? He got on well with Kendall and was a key fundraiser in series 10.

That tree went on to become a Morrison’s
Mauler was very upset...because he had to return to lessons after the service.
None of these pupils cared about Danny Kendall. Most thought him odd and the rest were indifferent.
This was my era ...but i always hated Danny Kendal and loved Bronson
Utube adverts 😡 annoying life draining adverts
It's suppose to finish with a waa waa waa waaaaaa.

Hate to say it, but that memorial plaque needed to be pushed more firmly into the ground, it looks like a stiff breeze would blow it over as it is.
Danny was suicided by Bronson.
Was this in 89?
Theresa may was Danny kendals mum..
I thought it was zamo who OD'd and died?
No iirc Kendall died of a brain hemorrhage

I wouldn't let mr Baxter to the funeral knowing of what he did
mrnaughtycat I think you mean bronson
He got on with Baxter actually
Mr Bronson.
Personally, I was delighted the poisoned drawf checked out.
He was very weird. It’s also nonsense that he was kept back a year.
Lol 😂
GH by this time was well rubbish and really should have ended sooner
It got worse than this. Once Ziggy Greaves & Trevor went, the soul of the show did too.
