I played Competitive Counter-Strike 2 left handed. We still don't have cl_righthand 0, so playing with the mouse in my left hand and the keyboard in my right is... the next best thing? - Ігри

@@erique1 When I first started playing games I tried with the mouse on the left side because I am left handed. It felt so awkward that I immediatly switched back to right hand. For me it wasn't the aiming that was off, I was as good if not better with my left hand than my right hand when aiming with the mouse, it was the righthand keyboard which was just horrific.
@@erique1 i tried val and cs1.6 for a month left handed and it was mostly a problem with finding the buttons, but honestly i got used to that and now i'm officially a left handed gamer

What is funny is the feeling you have with "I know the right thing to do, but I simply don't have the mechanical ability to do so" and the frustration that comes with it is the exact same feeling I have coming back to play after 6 years. I know the right things to do, I even put myself and teammates in the right place to do it. However, my mechanical habits and dicipline have all but rotted away over time. I used to be an MG-DMG level player and now I'm in 1-2k Premier. I deserve that placement due to my mechanical skill, but my understanding of the game is deeper than I'm currently ranked.
It's pretty damn frustrating, but I've grown up. I just don't have that kind of time anymore. It's probably a good thing, but it's sad to know that part of my life is over now.
hehe I related to that experience a lot. I play Rocket League professionally, with a keyboard and mouse. I once tried playing on a controller - it was such a strange feeling, which I described just as WarOwl did! My brain constantly knew what to do in any given position, and was sending a stream of inputs to my hands; my hands just couldn't translate any of the messages. Fun stuff!
This is exactly how it feels to play with Asperger's. Fine motor skills make me flinch when shooting, and aiming for heads is extremely difficult. I find it odd that I can play ULTRAKILL just fine, but any game involving PvP, my motor skills can be incredible one day, down the drain the other, and it's really frustrating to feel powerless in that regard of "I know what to do, I'm just not skilled enough to do it yet". - Worst part is when teammates start sh*t talking and it's just like, "yeah, I fking know, stop rubbing it in please for the love of God"
I hate the fact that I basically can't get into fighting games because I simply don't have the hundreds of hours necessary to learn combos, footsies, neutral game, and everything else.
I am fifty and can DEFINITELY relate to this. I mean, I was NEVER good at CS, or even at games in general, even though I am an old-school gamer. But it's frustrating that no matter how much I play and practice CS (which nowadays isn't nearly as much as I would like), my mechanical abilities just seem to hit a wall and I just feel cack-handed when I'm playing and can fumble things regularly no matter how "good" I ought to be at the game by now.
4:00 always love a bit of Houngoungagne slander hehe

for those who are lefty like me and actually play like this probably have or had an issue with right clicking on tab menu to report or mute players. you can fix it by
cl_scoreboard_mouse_enable_binding "+attack"
adding this.
He actually did have this issue on during the stream, so this is useful information!

You're ambidextrous in writing. Posted this before timestamp goes further to see if I'm recognized as a true OG.
Okay, close enough. Not limited to writing.
Every WarOwl video feels like I go on a journey together by the time I get to the end. There’s always a lesson in there too as an added bonus.
Thanks for the quality content Mr. WarOwl!
Every time I hear Warowl use a Starcraft music track in his videos I always get reminded "Oh right, he used to be a StarCraft 2 UA-camr". Somehow I always manage to forget that. Always nice to hear some good music some good ol' games. :P
Daaaaamn I saw the title and thought "nice we finally got cl righthand command back?"
You know that now that the player global model and view model are synchronized it would be a good idea to add an action to switch hands that would also change the player model animations. But it would make the game more complex.
There wouldn't be an advantage for those peeking to the right, as if you were to peek from the left you'd switch hands and your model would switch foot too.
Great video! I also wanted to game with my left (non-dominant) hand but after a bit realized my mouse just wasn’t designed for it but my right hand only. This video and the sponsor are definitley gonna motivate me to go for it
I always love that you give very good life advice at the end of your videos. Its not often i stare aimlessly at a wall thinking about what a youtuber just told me
Back in 2020(?) I got an RSI in my right index finger. It took forever to get resolved, almost two years. During that time I experimented a lot with alternate input methods to take strain off that finger. One of the things I tried was to use my left hand for my mouse for regular computer usage. Took me over a week to really feel comfortable with it, and after a while my *left* hand started hurting so I stopped doing that. Was never crazy enough to play video games like that.
What I did do was change which buttons I used. I switched to using spacebar for shooting, and then right and left mouse button for ADS and jumping, but the specific permutation of these three actions depends on the game and how frequently each action is used in that game. This also took a bit to get used to, but not as much as you might think. During this time I also decided to git gud at apex - I was nowhere near a pro, but I think that was the time at which my video game skills were at their peak, ironically. To this day I find it really easy to mentally remap what these keys and buttons do in my brain.
Another thing I started doing then and still do is switch the primary and secondary mouse button in windows. The pain is completely gone at this point, but I can feel it slooowly creeping back in if I use the index finger for clicking a lot.
Also last summer I visited the UK for the first time and due to poor planning ended up having to drive stick with LHD (I'm from germany, we drive on the right). Ended up finding it to be actually really easy, for what thats worth :D
Oh, and one unexpected benefit I noticed from using space to shoot is that I ended up becoming much better at tap shooting while tapping. Specifically, when using the G7 Scout in apex. Due to the high health pool in Apex you need to be able to track players and fire individual shots to use that gun effectively. Using the mouse, clicking to fire would always lead to me moving the mouse a little and missing the target. By decoupling the aiming from the shooting I eliminated that and fell in love with the gun
I had a lot of fun when we played Anubis and Ancient! Long time watching you and getting to play a couple matches was phenomenal. This was a great experience, thank you!
That last part really got me. Im treying rather hard to get better at the game and it feel like the harder i try, the worse i get
I love this as a thought experiment for what new players are facing. As someone relatively new, it's been very hard to build up my skills and push past the bad habits
never change warowl love your videos thsi one was awesome to see you sympathiZe with new players!!
as a lefty, it’s so funny seeing someone use the setup iv always run 😂
yeah haha
I have always wondered as a lefty how good my aim would be if i aimed with my left hand
This is so cool to watch! I really thought the aiming would be the hardest part, but its interesting to see how much of a struggle the keyboard was
This might be one of the best vid ive seen from Owl since I play unironically with my left hand (if you wonder im using the arrows and numpads replace the normal keybinds)
I swear watching you play like this throws me off. You taught me how to play the game and you’re teaching my friend the game now as I get him into it. You’re such a great creator and your work has impacted probably millions of people. Keep up the good work Mr. Owl, you’re one of my favorite teachers.
It's crazy to think that we all were like this (probably even worse) at the start. Great video again!
Warowl I totally agree that Counter Strike is in a league of its own and no other shooters are even of the same category. Lately I've been enjoying Hell Let Loose though, it's also very thoughtful in the way that it's balanced. Not that you asked but it's worth your time if you're still hoping to find some variety that isn't just dumb dumbness.
Thank you, papa Warowl, very entertaining video!
So happy to have been on your steam. I wished I was in the match but I am still thankful.
loved the video, really informative, i would love to see something like a series (zero to hero, but left handed), i believe that you can teach people to play the game as "noobs" to be better at it, muscle memory is something that cant be obtained in an instant and i'd really like to see how you, as a really good player who has many years of experience, figure out mistakes that people do when they start the game, or even players that play the game a long time but don't progress
The "your brain knows what to do but your muscles don't do it" feels like me with drawing, I've been blessed with extreme creativity but cursed with terrible drawing skills
Fortunately for you it's much easier to improve mechanical skill than build creativity from scratch ^^
When I saw the sails at corsair, I thought it was a thing for The Pirate Bay for a moment, and was both amused and concerned.
What a challenge for sure and I can imagine how painful WarOwl's left hand felt like afterwards.
That's something I will never attempt to 😂.
Really fast turnaround after the stream, impressive
Finally, a video for me!
Personally I recommend being a little further over, I use ikjl since more games allow that for bindings.
Key bindings for left-handers are a real issue. A lot of games just flat out won't let you bind some of the symbols on the keyboard, which is very annoying!
Even counter-strike 2 has a great glitch where it unbinds the 'slash' key every time I close the game (it's my crouch button). And I know that unbinding your crouch button makes you better at the game, but hey man, sometimes I need to crouch jump.
its very apt that he says its like learning cs all over again seeing as skills learned on one hand dont necessarily translate over to the other
I was pretty lucky when growing up and going to school in the early 00's, I'm left handed and in computer class my teacher wouldn't let me put the mouse on the left so I learned how to use the mouse in my right hand like a normal person. I can't even imagine trying to aim with my dominate hand and playing World of Warcraft in the early days really helped with that so by the time I started playing cs in like 2016 I didn't feel like I was at any disadvantage aiming with my right hand.
another of your secret super powers is that you´re genuine and have good work ethics. You have rejected countless gambling sponsorships. What a champ
I have tried reverse hands in some FPS games for few times, just for fun.
It's really good for your brain to break patterns and strengthen pathways that seldom get used.
It's also fun to experience being a new player again, except you can stop the experiment whenever you want.
I personally thought before my first test run just like you that aiming would be problem(likely because the ceiling for mouse control is MUCH higher), but it really is the keyboard usage. Long-term PC gamers are so used to the keyboard that they forget that you didn't learn to control through keyboard overnight. When playing reverse handed you have to actively think about the imputs.
it's amazing how much you can do with pure game knowledge against noobs. Literally aiming left handed, I applaud you sir. I still remember the time we played ancient together as a solo queue when I was drunk and lost...
This reminds me of my first time driving a manual transmission car on the wrong side (for me that's right-hand drive). Suddenly all the timings between your hand and your foot are off. After one week it was ok and after two it felt comfortable.
Hahahaha , jokes on you , I've been playing like this since my childhood.
I am actually extremely used to the default controls in all of the fps games and don't need to make weird keybinds.
YOU WERE STILL BETTER THAN ME THO
I have been playing cs 1.6 and source and have played some amounts of csgo
7:16 that sounded like batman lmao
also awesome video idea
That molly at 8:06 was spinning wild!
actually decent corsair drawing and writing
My dad was born in the 60s and he was forced to use his right hand to do everything even tough hes left handed, now he can use both.
This video is golden, My friends Tasago and Intrst played with you on Vertigo and when they told me i couldn't believe them but here we are hahahah GG
Thank You Scientist - Terraformer artwork spotted at the end 👀
Nah dawg your super power is teaching me the principles of counter strike such as crosshair placement and map control and positioning. Which is wild, cause for years I didn't even play CS:GO. But I still applied your teachings to many other games and as a result by the time I started playing CS2 for realsies, it all felt second nature to me. As for the 200iq bit, I believe it! You have such thoughtful and philosophical points to make in every one of your videos and that level of self awareness and thoughtfulness is genuinely appreciated.
The 200 IQ thing is a one stupid meme and I hate how widespread it is.
That being said regular joe can't even begin to comprehend the massive mental capacity gap to someone whose mathematic-logical intelligence would be at the upper end of IQ charts(further you stray from the middle more unreliable the tests become)
Back in the day (about 1986) when the Commodore 64 was the fashion of the day, I broke my right arm and had to switch to using the joystick with my left. It took a couple of days but I never went back after that (albeit joysticks aren't really a thing these days). The brain is amazing, though (paraphrasing) "My brain knows what it wants to do but my body can't seem to do it" - I feel that as a 50-y.o., especially when playing CS.
9:26 THANK YOU SCIENTIST LETS GOOOO
looking well warowl
Yoooo I’m in this as Xela on your team. Was great playing with you man, been a long time viewer
Corsair made a nice keyboard with that one
i enjoyed the moral of this video, strange i only just now saw it in my sub feed
that last thing of trying other games in hopes of variety but always coming back to cs is something that happens to me all the time. I don't make content but just for me to have fun, I need a single player mode that looks and feels like cs
Bro can dominate with both hands!
You may not have had your muscle memory, but at least you had the power of Morale.
I'm a left handed player by nature. I have mild cerebral palsy on the right side of my body. I have decent aim with my left hand, but movement on WASD is rough, can only index and middle. Impressive adaptation Mr. Owl.
I've had nightmares about having to play like this :0
This looked impossible. Well done!
I had to play left handed for a while after I broke my humerus. From what I can remember, getting used to it didn't take that long but the most painful thing was trying to nestle the keyboard so that I could somehow press the buttons with minimum arm movement. That was 17 years ago though, so I might have lost the muscle memory I gained during those 6 weeks of having titanium rods poking through my skin.
Oh WarOwl your so grand and wonderful! I wish my hair looked like yours!
This is pretty similar to an idea I had not too long ago. I once tried using a drawing tablet to play CS and Valorant, which went about as badly as you'd expect. But one other problem I had with it is that I naturally write with my left hand, so it was even more uncomfortable than it would normally be. So maybe next time I could try switching up my handedness and using the keyboard with my right hand instead. Although it still wouldn't be as easy since I'm not ambidextrous, I just use different hands for different things. They aren't interchangeable.
Did you just call your middle finger your middle mouse? 3:08
Just found it funny, always love your videos
This was a fun video! Now try a mouse in each hand. Left mouse is aiming. Right mouse is movement. Movement can be early 3D application-style where you move the mouse forward to walk forward.
Also, love it when you stream on YT. Thanks for the quality, entertaining content!
I am so glad I remembered this guy exists! ❤️🔥
I thought that Warowl's violin playing skills were going to stand him good sted for this.

I used to have my desktop like this for 3 years, only thing i did differently was that i used the arrow keys.
I'm also ambidextrous, but that was from training
Watching this as a left hand player with the same mouse and keyboard layout is very funny.
he's actually playing for the first time and just mirrored the irl footage xD
You're the best CS advocate and VALVe should be paying you for that.
"I knew I just didn't have the mechanics to win" is how it feels to go up against smurfs, it's the worst feeling
As someone that has already tried this challenge and can also use both hands... This doesn't make you feel pain, THIS IS PAIN! Then your brain tells you "Just do what you always do" but you end up doing it 100 times worse, it really is pain. It was fun though... in CS...
Hey WarOwl have you considered bumping up your recorded videos to 1440p? UA-cam gives a better bitrate for videos and even if you don't have a 1440p display you can just force the upscaled resolution output in editing software like Vegas or After Effects. UA-cam lately has seemingly dropped quality for 1080p videos hiding better bitrate behind "UA-cam Red/Premium" alongside killing off 720p as not HD anymore. I wish you all the best on your future endeavors and movie ideas.
I dont think he has a 4k or a 2k monitor.

I've always wanted to try playing with my left hand holding the mouse because I'm left-handed. But, seeing this made me not really want to do it because I have spent too much time honing my skills using my right-hand 😂😂
As a lefty this is so funny to watch because I've always played like this lol
I acutally tried this alot and wanted to switch to my left hand, cuz my right shoulder, rear delt, back, biceps...etc is so tense and fked up from 20 years gaming and working with the mouse.. I sadly stopped completly gaming with MnK now :( and i never had an idea how to use my keyboard right handed (like keywise).. I thought of buying one of these mini half keyboards you can use for playing with boths hands... Oh and respect WarOwl you brain halfs must be pretty balanced, to move like that already in the first matches!
“Neglecting responsibilities to play video games all day” we all can rely 🤣
When i saw a video, i was oh yeah he is ambidextrous and violin player, so i wasnt surprised you were doing okay😅
Welcome to the club ^^
As a left-handed person who never bothered changing settings because I grew up in LAN parties and all that jazz, here's an added bit of challenge: play left-handed with right-handed control scheme.
Shoot with your middle finger, use WASD... You may be asking how do you jump, right? Well here's the fun part, you don't use a finger, you use the side of your hand/palm. Try it. I'm sure you'll go mad.
Hi WarOwl, I actually remember you getting this exact video idea in the past, but at that time you dismissed it, saying that it wouldn't make a difference because you are ambidextrous. I don't know how the hell I remember that but I'm glad the video finally happened lol. Wasn't so easy huh xD
I guess it's more a question of practice rather than person's chirality, since it's the right hand that gave you trouble in the left-handed setup. Movement is more complex than aiming with mouse. Anyway, nice experiment. You did look like a "Brent new player".
Back in GO, i had a keybind that would switch between right and left models, bc i like to have knifes on my left and guns on my right. It was cool, but using guns with left made me confuse for some reason
Funny thing, I'm left-handed, but in first grade I deliberately choose to do non-sports right-handed, so now I'll play sports southpaw, but write and use my keyboard and mouse right-handed.
Finally, some respect put on lefties! ❤😂
"I did that with my left hand" - WarOwl
I actually thought you were playing amazingly well the whole time, I doubt I could even run straight. When you revealed your super power it all kinda made sense.
Soooooo left-handed-to-global now? :)
This was a neat concept, I'm genuinely surprised by how well you seem to be doing. If you want to re-do this kind of challenge, how about inverting your mouse controls in both the horizontal and vertical axis? I'm curious if that one might cause you more trouble than using a mouse with your opposite hand.
Edit: Oh, you're ambidexterous!? That explains....everything. Still, I think that other idea might actually challenge you.
When I was teaching guitar, I would switch hands to simulate the noob experience. It's a wonder what breaking your muscle memory does to your brain.
For a next video, you could try playing Counter Strike Mouse Only. What i mean by that is having a 12 side button mouse, usually bought by MOBA/RPGs players, and try to play with it. I gave it a try with the Razer Naga a few years ago and it was fun, besides being a little hard!
Your aim is sometimes so crisp and clean that I could be convinced that you just mirrored that hand cam
Next sponsor will be from whatever product WarOwl uses to maintain his magnificent handsomeness
ha, if you think playing with the keys over on the right or the arrow keys is weird, here's how I have been playing FPS games for 20+ years:
left shift = forwards
left ctrl = backwards
a/d = strafe
c= crouch
s= sprint
w= walk
for CS specifically:
q = molly
e= flashbang
middle mouse = smoke
That control scheme using the shift and ctrl buttons was standard for competitive DN3D play and I've stuck with it ever since. You use your pinky for forwards/backwards and then your three other fingers do the q/a w/s d/c.
Sounds like you're more Cross-dominance/mixed-handed than ambidextrous. (preferring to do some tasks with one had and other with the other.)
I've used my left hand for mouse and right for keyboard before, usually when working in awkward positions...but imagining playing a game like that made my skin crawl ngl.
