As a new owner of a 2016 Triumph Trophy SE, I can tell you that THIS video was a major factor in my purchase of the bike. I must've watched it 100 times. I love your enthusiasm about the bike, the video is of very high quality, and the scenery is nice. Your review of ALMOST all of the features is spot on. HOWEVER, I do need to correct one thing, NOT as a troll, but just to clarify for other people who are watching this in consideration of purchasing this bike. The error I am referring to is that the different modes, SPORT, NORMAL, and COMFORT only change the suspension settings. There is no way to change the throttle response on this bike. The power and throttle response are the same no matter which suspension setting you're on. Having previously owned an FJR 1300, I do wish the bike had the acceleration of the FJR, however, overall I like the Trophy MUCH better. It is so comfortable and easy to ride, and its flickability is actually noticeably better than the FJR, despite being larger and heavier. Anyways, THANKS again for this fantastic review. I still watch it often even though I have a Trophy of my own. I just wanted to clear up that one thing for other people considering this bike. But like I said, for me this was not a major factor at all. The Trophy is fantastic, period.

Matt, it's so funny you mention the FJR. I have tried to buy an FJR 3 times and each time for some reason I end up on something else! 2 out of those 3 I wondered if I had made the right choice; the third time when I picked the Trophy SE there was no doubt. Not knocking the FJR at all, it's a fantastic bike. That is how much I like this Trophy!

Hi Matt, I'm in the process of buying a 2014 Trophy SE after having recently owned a 2016 R1200RT. I was looking to buy an FJR 1300 and only stumbled on the SE I am looking at . 99% of all the reviews I've read re the SE speak volumes of its agility, engine and comfort levels - and above all, value. I too loved Chooch's review - I am positive I am making the right decision. I didn't enjoy riding my RT that much, it had a clunky gearbox and the sound, vibration and power of the boxer left me uninspired. For the money, I was expecting something more refined. I was thinking of upgrading to the K1600GT as I like the engine, but, I didn't like it's sheer bulk when I went for a test ride. The SE is large and heavy, but from what I can gather, it would not be as bulky as the K1600GT or for a Goldwing for that matter. Am sure that I've love the upgrade of power, comfort and smoothness of the SE - and at half the price. Can I ask you also, is there a dedicated connection on the SE to connect a trickle charger too and also, any tips for a new SE owner? Thank you. David

Bought a 2014 a month ago. Everything exactly as you see here. It's an absolutely astonishing machine in every way; looks, handling, acceleration, comfort, technology. A bit top heavy and I had mine lowered an inch, but at speed it feels like it weighs half its 650 pounds.

Problem is all these so called experts gave the Trophy a bad review. Anyone who’s joe average who’s bought one or rode one has loved them. The bad reviews of these cycle journalists is what ruined sales I think because it’s a great bike.

  • @dennism1919

This is a great review. I do like your enthusiasm! This is a bike that never got it's due. I remember seeing this bike for the first time at the 2014 IMS show. I said then that I would eventually own one. I was deeply frustrated when I learned that Triumph was going to discointinue this bike after 2017. It should have received the suspension upgrades, the engine upgrades that the Tiger got and a better cockpit with full TFT display and better integration for the '18 model year. Instead they dropped it so they could do more heritage. Very short sighted in my opinion. If you ask me they are heritiging themselves to death! But that is another matter. The Trophy was/is a world-class sport touring machine and deserved better. I did pull the trigger on a Phantom Black SE and I am so glad I did.
It's hard to describe the feeling one gets when riding this bike. It's kind of an edgy luxury. The bike is beautifully styled and has a very sexy line to it. It's incredibly smooth and refined for when you just want to see the world, but when you decide to go hard it's very much up to the task. I just completed this bike's first long ride. I did 1800 miles in 4 days from the NorCal coast to the Redwoods to the mountains and this bike was absolutely flawless. It made an already special trip unforgettable. I am in awe of how beautifully this bike tracks and how flickable it is. Even with the bags on it turns effortlessly. If I had any nit to pick it would be with the throttle connection. The throttle isn't quite as precise as I would like it to be, and at first it bothered me. They were able to improve it a little in the shop, and after awhile I just made the adjustment and now I don't even notice it.
If anyone is reading this and considering one, I would say do it. This really is a special bike. And the value that this bike will deliver considering the prices they are at today is off the charts. Just do it!

Agree with everything you say. Triumph should have continued production but, from what I've read, the Sport Touring market has taken a backseat to Adventure Touring.
Bought a 2017 Phantom Black TTSE with 7600 miles, factory owned bike, got 2 year warranty for $10,200! The mrap on this bike new is $19,500. Feel like I stole this bike! There are still some good deals on this bike and I highly suggest, if someone's in the market for type of bike, to jump on it before they're gone!

I took the same roads when I test drove my 2016 TTSE. The BMW 1200RT may have a cornering edge, and I liked the sound, but the Trophy was more powerful, more comfortable, better mirrors, and significantly cheaper. A much better value, and works well running a highway at 80, or the tail of the dragon at WAY under 80!

Chums, I own the same bike as well, it has been a great bike yes it's a little top heavy on the top RHS, it is where the battery was located. For 2 up riding it is great. My wife has never been a pillion or on a motorcycle period until we bought this bike. She absolutely loves this bike, she said it makes her feel really safe. I took her on a big cruiser and she didn't care for it in comparison. We get around 45mpg riding 2 up loaded with gear. I have never been able to get the Bluetooth to connect to my com system, which is a pain but other than that I never regret buying this bike. It is a shame Triumph discontinued the model last year, but now at least they are not everywhere.

DUDE.... I normally dont like motoblogs... they bore the crap out of me. I opened yours like "well another review".... hahahaha I was wrong. It was very funny and entertaining. Your reactions were authentic . I bought a used 2013 with 6,500 miles and every day I ask myself the same question: how are not this bikes more popular. On one hand it favors us, because the price is 1/2 of 1/3 of what and RT would cost. Everything you described was absolutely ON POINT. Even when you went over the first set of track. ... You did it on Sport mode and yes is a bit more stiff.
Only ONE observation the TES (Triumph Electronic Suspension) does not affect the throttle response, only the suspension. Great review. THX

I been wanting one myself. I've always ridden Harleys, until 1 day I bought a used BMW to sell. I was amazed the smoothness. I realized that I was missing something? A bike that actually didn't pulverize you on the road? I been hooked on Sport Tourers ever since. I still have a Harley Trike for 2 up riding as I'm a right leg amputee. I thought all bikes beat you up, but it was just the Harleys. No disrespect to Harley owners I know they are devoted to their bikes as I was too.

Hi there.. many years on from this review, but I have been watching a few reviews of this bike, and enjoyed yours alot. I just came across a 2014 one for sale in NZ for what I would think is a pretty good price, asking 9 Grand, (I'd offer 8) not sure of the conversion rate to your currency. Im riding a wee trident 660 i got last year new which was $14,500 for a comparison. Not sure that it is the SE, no heated seat and not sure it has the electronic adjustable suspension. I think it is a great looking bike, by all acounts super comfy, and more than enough grunt. My only question about it is that it has done near on 60,000 miles, but for a big touring machine is that really that high? Has extensive service history. The break rotors have only a little wear, so it does appear to have been ridden sensibly and is in great condition.
Not sure if you'd even see this comment this many years later but if you do and care to reply, is that kind of mileage too high to go there?
Great review mate, I'm nearly sold on it..

They cleaned up the sign but just sell a bunch of China junk now. Triumph is gone from there. Why does everyone think a full size bagger is heavy? They are all heavy! Which is to say it is all relative, ergo: they are not heavy. Maybe try power to weight ratio. Are you thinking about pushing it up a ramp to the back of a pickup to haul it to the track or load it with luggage and a passenger and ride it across Texas?

Something tells me as a former sportbike rider, I would probably enjoy this more than my 2016 Goldwing. It's pretty crashy over certain bumps. You talk about a big bike to throw around, try a Wing. My wife loves to ride on it, but this bike looks fairly comparable for a passenger. Mine just has more of a wrap around passenger seatback.

    • @biofractal78
      @biofractal78 4 роки тому +1

Your wife probably would not like it. The looks are deceiving. NOTHING like a 2001-2017 Goldwing when it comes to the passenger comfort. I decided to ride-bitch to see how it feels, after my wife gave me the thumbs down. I asked my brother to ride and I rode bitch. After getting of the bike I apologized to my wife for calling her "picky". The TTSE is far superior to the Goldwing in many aspects, specially the suspension. If Honda could build a New Goldwing that is actually NEW with the body of the 2017, the power/electronics and brakes of the 2018 and the suspension of the TTSE I would buy one on a heart beat. So... i know this comment is 2 years late... but if you still considering selling your Goldwing, do it knowing that your wife might not approve the comfort of this one
