It's an accurate tool to analyze the Ignition system. I tried it today on a Nissan Sentra and confirmed the Number Two Cylinder misfire. The Spark Plugs were ruled out because they are not too old. The Coil Pack is the Culprit.
If you put it on Tach, and Waveform, you can see exactly when the misfire happens when measuring on the affected cylinder. A smooth horizontal line means no mis. Dips in the horz line is the spark not occurring on that cylinder.
this is my favorite tool for carbed 2 stroke outboards. since they don't have computers, its awesome for setting idle speed and seeing the waveform for voltage. also for which cylinder isn't firing instead of pulling plug leads with the motor running and occasionally getting zapped with 15,000V lol
Me too! It's great for finding double or multi firing cylinders even though an inductive timing light or tach works this is much easier to use when running at speed in many situations. Once I got familiar with it and it's limits I have found myself grabbing in and using it each time I suspect an ign problem. I use it on everything from small tiller handle engines to the biggest outboards, stern drives and inboards.
