The GS1100 was the bad daddy, in 1980. One of my High School friends, Dave, had one just like this one. After watching me road race in the AFM for a few years on my 1981 Honda 750F, Dave modified his bike to go racing. So we teamed up and travel around hitting all the AFM races here in Ca. from 1981 to 1985.. Those were some awesome times..
No problem with power or handling but, those 1100's rear wheels made tire options few and far between. You guy's ever get below 2:07's at Sears?? Remember Vance saying "Nobody wins the warm up lap !!"
What a testament to Brad's ingenuity. I had one of those back in the day, the burgundy version. Possibly the slowest most ill handling bike I ever rode. Thanks for a fine expose on someone who unlocked that bike's potential.
Im from New Zealand. Over here that bike was the GSX 1100 and came out in '81. Before that was the GS 1000 with the 2 valve per head. Awesome bikes that had a great rep
Graham Crosby took out the Castrol 6 hour on the same bike... He got married later that year, and arrived at the Church on that bike... Bit of Trivia... But I owned one of those.... Great bikes in the 80s.....
I have had my 1980 1100 as my street bike for 20 years. Converted it to go drag racing 2 years ago. Best I have run so far is an 11.75 @ 113 mph. I have only been a few times.
One of my All time favorites. My brother had one back in the day, he was a huge street racer. Extremely fast. Love your bike, you guys are Awesome. Thank you. 👍
I was 14 when i drove a Kawa Z1300,and i was hooked to motor cycles and i was in my mothers belly on the back off a BSA,later on my father drove bikes and yeah i got the fiver and have made it my work and hobby! 😎😎
My dad had the same bike in color. I had one in maroon. Super fast motorcycles. Then we moved on to the 1983 GS1100E Holy cow what a rocket ship the black engine was on the 83. I had the red 83 my dad had the midnight blue.
I rode my 1983 GS1100ESD today that I purchased new in April of 1983 in San Diego California, it moved with me to Colorado in October of 1994 and again to Texas in September of 2017, it is still with me on the Gulf Coast on Galveston Island 🏝. In the early 90's I purchased a used 1983 GS1100ED to keep the miles on the ES low, had it only a couple of years, incomparison I preferred the ES to E much more primarily due to the lower Bars and the Fairing. Pretty much Stock with exception of the SuperTrapp SuperLight 4 into 1 Exhaust, individual K&N's, DynaJet Stage 3 Jet Kit, Vance & Hines Heavy-duty Transmission Bearings, V&H High Volume Oil Pump Drive, 630 to 530 Chain Conversion with slightly lower Gearing, Cometic Valve Cover Gasket (way better than OEM), LED Headlight, AGM Battery and of course I've worn thru many sets of Premium Rubber (Currently changing over to Pirelli Sport Demons, just mounted the Front a couple of days ago). Retired Professional Wrench (Audi's are my Specialty) Randy AKA randog311
Fantastic restore on the '80. I still have my original love, an '81 1100E and it runs strong. I have been bringing my restoration around, but finding stock exhaust is proving problematic to say the least. Any recommendations other than prayer?
My favorite bike on cycle drag!! Incredible work and dedication. Biggest tank of nitrous ever on a bike! Please continue to smoke the new school bikes its awesome! 😁👍🏻
Really wish you could share pictures in the comments... my uncle has a mint 81 gs1000 it’s the grandpa to my gsxr. He also has a 67 scrammbler and maxima. Few other old school bikes and enduros. I love riding different bikes all years. The handle bars on the maxima are funky. Love the front end of his race bike, looks like a street fighter, the controls, and the forks as well as being lowered helps a lot with that. Wonder what forks and steering head he used, probably a gsxr conversion.
Yes sir jack. Oldschool rules. This is my favorite bike in the xda series. Too bad little richard is not the rider anymore. Its way more fun to make a old bike to run with these new ones. And so different.
I had a 1978 GS1000E I bought new in 78 but when the GS1100 came out in 1980 I wanted one bad but could never swing getting one at the time. Fast forward forty two years and I found a 1981 GS1100E that was unmolested so I finally own one. I will never sell this one.
Does he have a UA-cam channel or a website or any way to contact? I have a 1980 GS1100E with Vance and Hines air pods and exhaust, I was told it is stroked and bored and some other parts, red and black. Id like to ask some questions. I'm in Pennsylvania too surprisingly.
That is a attractive drag bike and so fast , the GS1100 just creamed every thing out at the time and my friend bought one and I tried to keep up on my Z1R on the highway and the Suzuki just clobbered me pulling way faster and must have been 20 hp up with more torque.
When i worked in a motorcycle shop in 1981 my boss had one, and one job was to wash and clean his Gs1100, What a heavy heavy bike it was! Needless to say i hated it!
In Australia these were the GSX 1100 the GSX is 4 valves per cylinder and GS was two valves per cylinder l do like tge original GSX1100 but that drag raciing bike is something else
@@practicalplinking6133 my auto spell didn't catch it. And you're absolutely right. Both of them actually were excellent drag racers. But Terry was a little faster.
@2:21 Finely restored?😂😂😂 This bike is better than what you could buy off the showroom floor in 1980 and is absolutely beautiful! I was born in 86 and my very first memory of a motorcycle was in 1991 and it was this exact bike but custom painted black with blue ghost flames on the tank. Myrtle Beach Bike Week 1991 and 4 years old is where my addiction started and has been a life long problem for me! I'm not sure what caught my attention more the beautiful bike or the top less woman on the back blowing me a kiss.😜😂😂😂
Are you sh_tting me!!!!! 600hp!!!!! My Chevelle drag car has 575hp. It leaves extremely violently. I can't imagine having that kind of power on tap on 2 wheels. That's just insane.
i have a 83 gs 1100 e and need parts for it and am having trouble finding anything and any parts place i call laughs at me and says our books dont go back that far

Bro the motor on this monster sounded so nasty and just screamed!

Always loved my dad's gs, went bottom 9's in the 90's on his. Blow thru turbo setup with a jackshaft swingarm.

So beautiful great job Brad
My granddad bought an 81 gs 1100 off show room floor it's now in my garage and I love every minute

Old school bike rules. Love old school bikes. Plus look better. But that’s me all the best from England ❤️🔧🏍👍🇺🇸🏴
I remember how fast my 1980 GS 650 was. I wasn't skilled enough back then to own the GS 1100. Thanks for the memories and video.
She's beautifull ! Congrate for the job
I love nitrous! No lag for nos! Good pressure and full bottle and he's ready all the Time.

Hey Brad, way to stay with it. Happy to see your and Mike’s commitment to going quick/fast!!
