Same with me!! My paternal grandfather was born in Wales to a Scottish father and and English mother. My paternal grandmother was born in Germany, immigrated to the USA at age 9. She never went back even for a visit! Her paternal grandmother came from Romania, so I am the child of many countries and cultures! My mother's ancestors go back many generations in the USA, (during the time our country was under British rule) many of whom came originally from England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany. I am very proud of my multinational heritage, but am firstly, an "American by birth, and a Patriot by choice". I married as my 2nd husband, a Native American, a Vietnam Veteran (Marine Corps), therefore much of our home features Native American wall hangings, plus photos highlighting his homage to Vietnam service from "68-69" in photo. He paid a heavy price for it all though, he has been paralyzed on his left side since 1972. We fly a large American flag in our front yard, mostly the only house on the block to do so! How sad!! This story is so emotional to me, and for the first time, realized the true meaning behind our flag! God bless the USA!!

That would be great, so long as he doesn't forget what he came from. Many, many of those American rebels fighting for freedom were formerly Scots, driven from their ancestral lands a generation before by the rebellion of '45 which ended with the battle of Colloden. I attribute the "born in the bone" sense of freedom loving ferocity that won us the revolutionary war to the Scots in our ancestry.

This is why so many americans are so passionate about our anthem and flag. Many people think it's because we think we are better than everyone. We do not. We are so proud of it because of all who sacrificed so much to make it happen. We are nothing compared to them, and we owe everything we have to them. That song brings tears to my eyes, and I will forever stand with pride and sing along.

I am a Female Blackfoot Native American US Army Veteran married to an American US Air Force Veteran of Scottish/Welsh decent. We both can trace our ancestors to the American Revolution [mine were Algonquin & Siksika natives who were scouts and sharp shooters for the colonies while my husband's family were medics and Calvary soldiers]. We will both one day be buried under Old Glory like very few married couples in the USA have: in the same grave, with military honors, Old Glory, and our names, rank, and branch chiseled onto one military headstone: together. He is my forever Battle Buddy, & I love that his DNA is of the Highlanders line!
You will note that the Old Glory, American Flag, is also one of the ONLY flags at the Olympics, UN, & other dignitary meetings that NEVER "dips" or "bows" no matter if its monarchy, Prime Minister, or president; because We The People of the USA, who have the DNA of every nation on the planet running through sour veins, BOWS FOR NO ONE BUT GOD!
    Our mottos:
    1. Give Me Liberty! Or, Give Me Death!
    2. In God We Trust!
    3. I'd Rather Die Free Standing Than On My Knees As A Slave!
Scotland, your people paid a HUGE price in many regiments from the Regiments from NY, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, & Georgia. Yes, more fought as loyalists to the crown, but your blood spilled with my native peoples; with colonials, & that makes you "family" in my book!
I got to serve in Bosnia, Kosovo, and Afghanistan with your people once more & was HONORED to have the Scotts with the 504th MP BN. They would tease us in good honest fun by singing "The Yanks are Coming" when we would roll in off a mission for some down time & we would sing "Lay Me Down" when they came back from theirs. I hope our bayonets and rifles never need to face each other like they did in 1776, and the USA & the Scottish people remain allies for many centuries to come!
Thank you for honoring our flag, our song....which we see as a flag & anthem for ALL the brave because they are free here with us...one nation under God.

Whatever you think of Russia, on whatever levels, if Russian punks mouth off against Russia itself, they get "sorted-out" - immediately - by older men! No need to call the cops; just call someone with a scoop, and a mop...hatred of Mother Russia is not tolerated - especially since something like 17 million men and women gave their lives, in her defense!
But, in my twisted part of the greatest nation extant, Marxists are taking over, with overt or covert support from the eunuch Mayor, the Shining Path City Council, and a captured police force, the anarchists are free to roam, with guns and knives drawn; but if a regular Joe fights back - BOOM - undercover magically appears, and drags him downtown, where the Sandinista D.A. throws the book at him!
It's all by design; they had a plan to brainwash the kids, in the USA, beginning decades ago, starting with bitter feminist, Marxist teachers, on up to the psycho Professors, teaching the students about the glory of Ho Chi Minh, and his mentor, Mao Tse Tung.
When I was a kid, in High School, they tried to seduce me with environmentalism, which led to the "Club of Rome" (Marxist), and their pamphlet, entitled "Limits to Growth", which taught that man was inherently, a poison, killing Mother Earth. I was horrified, by the vicious insanity, and began my exploration of traditional values, and un-tainted biographies. Thanks be to God!
It's an inverted world, and if you speak up (here) they dox you, and vandalize your home, at 3:00 AM.

I did that every morning starting in first grade, until the end of high school.. We are a brave country, and we will also die for our allies. My father was wounded and became disabled on the 3rd. Wave of Omaha Beach, my brother spent 20 years in the navy, from 1958 to 1978, all through the Vietnam Nam war.. Rarely did we get to see him.. Now my Grandson is in the Air Force... I am so proud of my family, and country..

Am a 75 y.o. American Great-Grandma. We did much the same thing in our school I attended Loma Linda grade school, (a Seventh Day Adventist church institution). Growing up, I thought no one in my family had ever served in our military!! Boy, was I surprised when my research uncovered truths about my ancestors! My earliest known military ancestor (he was born 1734 in Pennsylvania, his parents came from Isle of Man (British) served in the French/Indian war. I learned recently that my maternal grandfather served first in the Merchant Marines, and later, the Army. Was stationed at the Presidio Army Barracks in San Francisco in April 1906 when the big earthquake hit San Francisco. He helped fight the numerous fires, helped with the "clean-up" afterwards. His father fought in the Civil War! Injuries left him with a painful limp! My older son has served in both the Army and the Navy, saw service in the Middle East. He is retired now. My 2nd husband served in the Marine Corps, retired in 1973 after being shot in the head and left for dead!! Our oldest grandson in currently in the Marine Corps, will likely someday continue to serve his country. My husband's father served in the Navy during World War II, later served in the Korean war. My husband was "raised" in war culture! I have other ancestors who also fought in the Rev. War, the Civil War, and etc.

The reason they don't teach this story in American History is because, as moving as this version is, it is mostly fiction. British Admiral Cochrane's goal was to destroy the fort allowing a land assault already waiting outside of Baltimore to enter the city. British ships firing on the fort from 2 miles away did not have the accuracy to aim at the flag and were barely accurate enough to hit the fort itself. Frances Scott Key was not aboard the prisoner ship, but an American ship being towed by a British command ship 3 miles from the fort, he did not have access to the prisoners to update what he saw. Fort McHenry casualties during this battle totaled 4 dead and 24 wounded. None of the dead were holding up the flag pole. It is a proud enough moment in American history on it's own right without the embellishment in this narrative. I find it interesting that the original video is posted with "Comments off", probably so historians like myself cant call them out on it.

This was actually from the war of 1812. Considered by many historians as a second revolutionary war and the war that really gave us independence from Britain. After this Britain never bothered us again.
Of course it helped that general Andrew Jackson (later President) defeated a British Army at the battle of New Orleans. On the American side our army was made up of small contingent of regular troops and the bulk of the army coming from prisoners pirates and slaves who fought together to defeat the same British Army that had defeated Napoleon at Waterloo.

@@newp6244 yeah, I get the effect that they were trying to create but the REAL history behind the anthem is what I believe gives it it’s power. Another thing wrong in the video is that we weren’t colonies. By 1814, the US was a well-established nation. The issue regarding unity was that people identified more with their states rather than as a whole country. Additionally, the militia/army had a tendency to retreat, which is exactly happened at the Battle of Bladensburg and resulted in the British burning Washington less than a month before the Battle of Baltimore. Baltimore was almost seen as the last defense in the Chesapeake because if the British had burned Baltimore, they could have easily gone up to Philadelphia and topple American commerce. I said earlier that the us army often ran from battle but that was what made Baltimore/fort McHenry different. The troops held their ground during a 25 hour bombardment (only 4 were killed). The battle and the flag created a sense of national unity and pride as well as resolve at a time where the United States wasn’t so united.
