My dad raised Scottish highlander cattle for a time and I along with my brother helped him. They are more like a 1000 pound dog than beef breed. Very gentle and hardy.
Howdy, from way down under, Australia. Just watched Chad of Adler Farm picking up his young Highland bull calf. These Highland cattle look so nice . But hate to meet a temperamental bull with those horns. Only once experienced a charging (fast run) bull while retrieving my RC glider from base of the hill we were flying from, in what believed an empty paddock. Foolishly, too far from the fence to run I stood firm, and surprise a short distance away, the bull stopped looked, then turrned aside then even started away, but turned back.again and stood. Maybe a minute we stood facing off. The bull dragged a front foot on the ground, head a bit low. I dared to start slowly towards my glider, about 200 yards away. The bull walked towards me, I stood still, but even more scary to me the bull walked up to me, brushed my arm with a horn. I was petrified, but finally put a hand on the near horn. The bull turned its head, so I brushed down its face, and the let it sniff my hand. Finally after rubbing the face and head more it snorted then turned and trotted away. I still shaking retrieved the glider and departed. Took over an hour to relax Still hate to think what could have resulted, had that encounter become bad. I simply was not aware of the bull there, as we had flown above that paddock from the hill above for years. The dairy farm only had cows there occasionally. Well I survived, and learned a lesson Other model glider friends saw it, none dared to try helping, and I do not blame them. Still do not know what about standing still made the bull stop its run towards me, or why it became so docile finally, just glad it was.
Hi, Chad sent me, Addler Farms, just thought I'd drop by and say Hi, I'm Chez, I live in Valencia, Spain. We have a tiny, tiny 1500sqm fruit trees and a flower garden. Would love to keep hens, but my rescued hunting dogs would probably eat them! Love Highland cattle, I'm a Brit, so a beautiful Highland cow is something I grew up with, they are gorgeous beasts!! Anyway, just thought I'd say Hi! xx chez Lliria Valencia Spain
Good morning, Rhett, Anna & Lucy! Just dropped by to sub and say hello! On my morning YT rounds. Will drop in later and catch up on your vids!! You impress me to be an energetic and knowledgeable young man! Looking forward to learn more about your Highland herd! 🇺🇸MesquiteTX!
Your Highlander cows are beautiful. #CHAD from #ADLER FARMS RECENTLY BOUGHT ONE OF CINNAMON CALVES FROM YOU. He named him Fred. Beautiful cow! UA-cam is the only social media I follow. #I like #UA-cam and I think following you grow your channel and your family. 🎊#CONGRADS🎊 On your new marriage 💕💕
New subscriber. Just watched Chad from Adler pick up Cinnamon's baby. These are beautiful animals. I have never seen this breed. Looking forward to watching your older videos and would love to see any new ones you would share with us.
I really enjoyed that. I actually live in the Scottish Highlands so seeing these cattle is not an uncommon sight. It was just nice to get your take on the breed and to learn how they adapt to a very different climate. By way of comparison it's early July here and the outdoor temperature today is 52º - colder than your winter's day. It's not always that cold here in the summer but we never get anywhere close to 100º.
Yay! I'm living vicariously through you. I grew up around cattle working on a feed lot; rode horses most of the day as well. I miss those days (city girl now); I need to get back to that better life!
Man, my wife and I are loving your videos. Especially this one. With each one of your points we’d exchange looks as if you were reading our minds/ story. We’re definitely looking for Highlands and would love to get on your list for future calves. Keep up the great work on the videos and have a blessed new year.
Thanks, Im glad you like the videos! I hope to keep making them, I dont know where youre located, but if its near OK if you ever do buy some I would be glad to help you out
Been through that a lot... I run one electric wire on 5' no climb fence to keep them off it. Scottish Highland are majestic creatures & funny characters. I have Scottish Highland and Belted Galloway cattle. Cheers from Upstate New York!
my dad raised angus steer on his grandfather's farm. the place is a tree farm now. If i'm in a position to have dairy cows, jersey and highlands are what i'd go for. that high butterfat in the milk of highlands, and jersey's are mine and a close friend's favorite breed.
These cows are great! I just found your channel today and subscribed. Keep the videos coming. We just got ours last year, they have a hilarious personality sometimes.
Just saw you as Chad bought a bull calf from you and just now subscribed to your channel. And I just watched the 3 Reasons to Raise Highland Cows. And fell in love with the Highland Cattle after only one video! Wish that I was MUCH younger to have my own. But, since I am not I can enjoy your Highlands from watching your video!
Well hello from Adler farmstand!! Your camel are just beautiful. I’ve been to Scotland and saw my first highland heard must be 35 years ago now and they’re just as pretty now as they were then. I will most certainly be following you and your family. Oh my children are all raised and gone and their children are raised and gone, off the careers that is! 🧑🏻🦳🤟. Oh yes and congratulations to you and your bride may you have many more years of love and fun ahead of you.
First time watching ur channel , I just love how u know them by name, they r very lucky to have a owner like u,,, They r beautiful cows, Great video, stay safe everyone,,
Hi there just heard about you from CHAD ADLER FARMS. I had no idea they raise these HERE I watch a channel from the UK Farmer Richard an they have Hugh farm an they have highlands they are very majestic cow. I'm say HI an subscribed to your channel.
Hey y'all, you really thought this through very well. You make a very strong case for raising this breed. Yes you did find out that folks will buy the calves like Chad from Adler farms did today. take core bye for now
We have raised angus in previous years.. we have not had any in about 5 yrs. we have 4 acres. With a pond I have been researching these babies for yrs. curious if 2 heifers and 1 bull on 4 acres is enough for them I have had up to 6 in previous yrs. but I really want to raise them and make sure they have enough room
Good video! Glad you made the location of the cattle known so we could get a greater context for the animals !(I just subscribed today!) I’m also out of Oklahoma and am looking into getting Scottish Highland cattle, I want to have a family milk cow,for cream and butter and then just have a few out in the field for GOOOD BEEF!! I’ll look you up on Facebook cause I’d like to buy some very soon!
Thank you. I've seen two people that have posted pictures of their highlands with broken horns from injuries. But other than that, they should not fall off
Golly didn’t know it got so hot in Oklahoma! I wonder if they’d do well in parts of Canada? I’m going to look into it because they are incredibly gorgeous. I’m hopeful we will have a farm eventually!
Ya it can get pretty warm. They definitely would do good in Canada. I know of at least one breeder in Ontario. But there are lots of people in Northern US that raise them
Love your video. We raise Scottish highlanders in Michigan. We also have a blond/white bull, his name is Ghost. After doing research on them we chose them for the same reasons. Very hardy, easy to care for, and the beef is great and we know where it came from. Also wanted to know what is going into out food. We started in fall of 2017. I'm planning to post some videos soon.
If they have so much space, how do you find them when you have to feed or care for them? And do you ever have issues with their horns? Just curious. I hope to have some of my own someday but first I have to save up for some land lol but I don't want to dehorn them. They're so pretty, and being from the city/no farm experience and hearing so much about how docile and easy they are, I think it would be a good choice for me to start with
I like this thread. I think I saw a cartoon once. Where hyenas talking about the cute ducklings and baby lambs they ate. If there isn't a seen in a cartoons they got to put one in. Hyenas campfire talk.
Aye. Probably one of the cruelest part of life is that omnivores and carnivores must take life to preserve their own. And also being sentient enough to understand that the other creatures enjoy being alive and don’t want to die either.
I can see million reasons to raise them, but i can give you one why not (for me). I just couldn´t part with them. So maybe two affection ones, but for whole of their life. Call me a wimp, but that´s just me :P
Nonesense Speaker mmm I agree. I could probably handle poultry🤷♀️ but since I don’t eat red meat anyways (for taste and texture reasons) I would probably only raise other animals for milk and get eggs and meat from poultry 🤷♀️😂❤️
You can have Highland cows for 20 years, and they keep producing calves for all that time! Plus, they thrive on poor pasture where even sheep would stuggle to graze: They give a whole lot and ask very little in return........truly Scottish, LOL!!

Yingtheeevee Highlands don’t make much milk though and are predominantly beef cows
Highlands are definitely great animals to raise. I personally don't know of anyone who does milk them, I just know it had been done in the past
You're living my dream!😊♥️

Ya it can get pretty warm. They definitely would do good in Canada. I know of at least one breeder in Ontario. But there are lots of people in Northern US that raise them
Do they need protection from coyotes and other predators or do they fend for themselves in the herd?
We do have coyotes and bobcats, but I've never had an issue with them bothering the cows. But we also have three decent sized dogs at the house
Does it reflect on the meat on the grill?
I like the fluffy one
I want a blond one. I would call her Appa.
You need to build those livestock brush type body scratchers for your horned puppies….
I would love to get them one. I've seen pictures of people using street sweepers as scratching posts but I haven't been able to find one.
Are they friendly as just a pet can they do good on there own
What if they get stuck together how do you manage them all your awesome sauces 😉
Is their hair very coarse? It looks so fluffy, but I have a hard time thinking they are as soft as they look!
The outer hair is coarse, but there is soft hair closer to the skin
How has marketing the beef been for you? How have you been selling it?
