      Thanks for the response man. Yeah I did. In hindsight my repair and blend area were too tight… at least for the course metallic. also since my primer was light I should’ve sprayed some darker color etch maybe so I didn’t have to put so many coats to cover. I ended up re shooting and blending into the 1/4 and fender. 2 light coats, easy blend flick and it looked great. Appreciate you making videos

    I've done a car in my two car garage without a booth and it turned out great. I've also done one in the garage with a home made booth and the results were pretty much the same; the primary benefit of the booth was no overspray in the rest of the garage, and improved exhaust/ventilation. Keep em' coming Kevin!

    I painted 4 cars in my 2-car garage by building a makeshift positive pressure booth using 2 x 4s and plastic sheeting, intake and exhaust filters and a 36 inch shop fan. Came out beautiful each one with almost 0 dust. Took me a day to build the booth, cost maybe $200. Oh and I put that thick paper board on the floor.

    A lot of us old heads for years, always just grabbed and splashed stuff in with our paint and eyeball mixed everything and then we wondered why we were getting solvent pop, fish eyes, other paints were frying up underneath. I had to stop myself because I was one of those old-school painters That sprayed basically lacquer, single stage enamel, etc. and then when I came into using urethane and basecoat clear coats, and even getting into some waterborn, it was a complete game changer for me. I had to completely re-educate myself and learn to not just grab and dump to actually Measure and measure correctly that way the chemicals were doing what they were meant to do and not having too much or too little of a component that needs to be exact. I’m glad you actually go through and tell these people this because most people don’t they don’t understand how important it really is. I still see a lot of guys on UA-cam that use the same method that I used to use. I call it grab and glob, lol I followed you for years brother at one point in time discovery wanted to come into my shop but I could not handle it when they were trying to tell me what they wanted me to do and how they wanted me to treat my employees maybe we can get together one day in the future on a build

This is my first real body and paint project and the truck is in pieces right now. Since I want to do a metallic color I understand that it's better for a newbie to paint it when it's assembled but do any of your videos explain the process of how to cut in the door jambs, back of the cab, front of the bed, etc. with color and clear and then assembling everything and painting the exterior without messing up the transition from the cut in parts to the exterior? I hope the question makes sense. I haven't seen anyone address how to do that. Thanks!

    Thank you Kevin for all the information. @ paintucation, I'm starting my own business. Kenny's restorations. I also have my own UA-cam channel. Something you have not shared. And I can't find online can you use silicone to seal your booth? I know you don't want to use spray silicones because it'll cause fish eyes I hear. I appreciate it if you can get back to me on this matter thanks Kenny.

    What are your thoughts on turbine systems vs air compressor spray setups. I have a handful of project vehicles I need to paint over the next few years. Right now I only have 110v in my garage. I've been trying to decide the best way to spend my money being I won't be painting on a regular basis.

    • @paintucation
      @paintucation  7 місяців тому

      Joe, I find that I have to compensate for the hot air with turbine systems, otherwise you get excessive texture... I know that turbines are used ALOT in portable repair business, woodworking, and other industrial applications. You'll have to experiment with reducer, maybe go above your actual air temperatures with your chemistry.... Hope this helps! KT

    I thought having plastic walls for painting would cause static causing spray to go boom!?

    • @paintucation
      @paintucation  2 дні тому +1

      no, there's no ignition source there, and static won't build like that on a large section of plastic

      @@paintucation oh ok thank you. Btw what is that spray called when you get to bare metal but don’t have the time to epoxy and you have to come back in 1 or 2 weeks? Is it fast etch? I have limited time on my projects, thank you so much for all you do

    Nice to see your shooting axalta. Overall my fav solvent and water. Only gripe is the solvent metallics- course metallics for me always an issue. burned myself today. Ford JS on a new bronco- repair both doors, using white primer, had to put a lot of coats to cover, blend got bigger and bigger- tried 1 to 1 with blender did a cross hatch to try to soften sandpiling rear door and it streaked. Thought I was ok as in sun looked good but customer noticed. As u can imagination was a rough day- most likely going Into 1/4 now, f me. moving forward feel free to give some tips in similar situations
