I just took apart my CECHE01 using this video. Everything turned out great, fresh thermal paste and no parts left over. It had never been opened and I'm the 2nd owner. It had more dust than my dryer lint filter. Now the fans don't even kick on high. No need to remove the heat spreaders. Running nice and cool and breathing easy. Thank you. Subscription earned.
Some data over at PSX-Place pretty clearly shows that the D14F (Long fin 15 Blade 2.65A) is a better fan. While the D14F is pretty rare (comes with E models) and runs a bit louder it keeps the PS3 the coolest if you aren't jailbreaking, if you are there is a quieter fan (G14T12BS2AF) than the 19 blade so the only time you should use the 19 blade is if you want a slightly quieter ps3 than the D14F and are willing to pay the price, but the 19 blade isn't the best performing ps3 fan. On another note, I bricked 2 Ps3's (just crappy G models) before I was able delid without Damaging the system. If anybody wants to try themselves I would buy a couple off eBay before risking damage to an A,C, or E PS3.
Thanks for the info. We also did a de-lid video and came up with a method that makes it relatively easier to remove the ihs. Link: ua-cam.com/video/GzMmi7F65wQ/v-deo.html
Hey man 😁, I have a CECHE04 verion can I install the same disc drive in this video to mine and will it still run ps1 ,2 games . if not could u please share with me the link of which disc drive can be installed to CECHE04 from your website I would really appreciate it .
Are these consoles considered to be somewhat loud ? Or should I consider renewing the thermal paste ? Although it’s loud the console is in mint condition.
These first gen ps3s do tend to run loud but if it sounds like a hair dryer set to high you should replace the paste. Also do a full IHS delid (check out our channel for that one)
@fasttech my CECH-E01 just went out on me yesterday. I dont have the YLOD. However, when I turn the system on, the system boots as normal and goes to the home screen. After a few minutes in the home screen the image becomes pixelated and freezes. In your experience what would you recommend to correct the issue. The warranty sticker is still in place. To my knowledge, I am the second owner. Should I attempt to heat up the chips and replace the thermal paste or buy a new motherboard all together? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you! 😊
Your RSX chip (GPU) is toast. I would recommend replacing the mainboard since replacing the chip would almost cost the same. If you are interested in one heres a link: www.fasttech.ca/playstation-3-parts/ps3-cechexx-mainboard-disc-drive-logic-board-cok-002
@fasttechvideo Thank you for the fast reply! I appreciate it. Does your company offer a warranty on the recommended parts? My main concern is buying the parts, doing the repair and six months down the road, I'm in the same boat... 😅 Can you give me a quote of how much you would charge if I sent it in for repair instead of doing it myself? Thanks again!
Great video and very detalied. You seem to have a lot of experience with PS3 consoles, what´s your opinion on de-liding a console? Is it worth the risk? Will it truly make the console live longer?
I would not recommend a beginner de-liding the chips. Replacing the paste, upgrading the power supply to an aps-231 and the fan to a 19 blade version is what I recommend.
What would cause a PS3 CECHE01 to have the red light when connected to power, but when pressing the power button the light just turns off and does nothing, same when I press the eject button
