I have been making my own vanilla for about 30 years. It’s so much better and my friends love being gift recipients. So easy to make. I’ve been buying vanilla beans on Amazon for awhile. Homemade is so much better! I put the vanilla beans directly into the vodka bottle place in a dark cabinet. I shake it maybe once a week. When it’s time for use (the longer the better.) I add the delicious vanilla to separate brown jars. Then I scape the vanilla caviar from each bean and let it dry and add it to sugar to make vanilla sugar.
Thank you for sharing your tip
Its 1 ounce of beans per 8 oz of alcohol for single fold, 2 ounce of beans for 8 oz of alcohol and it should steep for at least 12-18 months depending on alcohol used. Anything less is flavoured alcohol and not extract. Double fold is the best. Bless you both. 🙏🏼 🤗. Once the vanilla has steeped dry the beans and put in sugar for a month or longer for vanilla sugar.
Girl, use that big vodka jar for a vanilla ‘mother’ jar! My mother jar was initially started when I first started making my own vanilla. It just gets better and better with age🥰
Great tip, thanks for sharing
Explain the Mother Jar concept Please❤
@@monamorgan9452 I use a half gallon mason jar, topped off with vodka at all times and keep vanilla beans in it. I’ll keep new whole beans in it if I’m not ready to do my individual jars, all of the cut off tips, and spent beans. Spent as in, completed first extraction, seeds scraped for paste, and hulls sugared. I started it in 2018 with my very first batch and have been adding beans/vodka to it since then. I primarily use Madagascar beans but have used 2 other varieties over the years and always vodka. I’ll use it for baking when I’m in between batches but that doesn’t happen often because I have individual jars at different stages. Hope that helps 💞
When I saw this, I was almost afraid to watch. (I may have done mine wrong!😮) But, I didn't!! Yeayyy!!! 😂
I made 8 8oz bottles last May! They should be pretty good by Christmas! The only thing is I have a few beans left, so I guess I'll throw them...I appreciate knowing the 1:1 ratio. That helps!!
Ziggy is getting big! ❤
Thanks for the video!! 💕
Hi Jill, it's so funny. I made some 2 weeks ago. Love it.
Getting my vanilla beans now! Your house is so cozy, I'm in the process of changing up lots of things in our house transitioning into that cozy fall/winter hygge!
I have been wanting to try this but was so overwhelmed at so many different vanilla beans. THANK YOU❤ I love your baby carrier. You look so cute today.
You can do it! Thank you 😊
We need to start doing this for sure!
I made 2 bottles last year - one with volka and one with bourbon. They are 19 months old. I personally prefer the one with volka in it.
For Christmas, I have my daughter a bottle. She says she needs more. She loves it. It is so much better than store bought.
I always save my amber bottles.
yall are so lovely! ah im so excited for the sourdough course and gift guide 😊
thanks for the video!
Our pleasure!
Sold, we are going to make our own now!! 🙏
I want to learn the sourdough way. Most of all I want to come to Conway and see that baby.
Ooohhh Omy word how precious.
Post your new sourdough bread recipe--OKAY . THANKS 😊 ❤
I made some back in January! I’ll be gifting a bunch of mine as well!
I would love to be gifted one
I made vanilla almost a year ago and just put the whole pack of vanilla beans right in the big bottle of vodka! I'll fill little bottles from that and then I i can refill the big bottle again!
Great tip
Great video, thank you guys for sharing this!! ❤🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey y'all, I love seeing you with Ziggy wrapped up with you!! The vanilla bean gift idea is so great! I saw on amazon the ones you bought were about 75 cents each! I really love seeing y'all together on the video. God Bless take care, Steven
The baby be bowlegged keep on caring him like that
I was taught that it was a vitamin D deficiency and possibly a calcium deficiency. Not how they’re held as an infant. I’ve been bow legged my entire life.
The baby is just fine !
Nope, hip specialists actually recommend this position for hip development, the legs hanging down type carriers can actually cause hip dysplasia. Also, do you realize that babies all around the world are carried like this, and have been for millennia? If this caused bowleggedness, much of the world's population would be bow-legged.
In Africa we are carried like that on our househelps back. I was carried like that.
Thanks
I’ll have to make some ❤thanks
Sorry! At beginning, little Ziggy’s head slipped out from under the wrap! 😂 It was like that movie Total Recall when a head was talking thru a belly!! 😂😂😂. Sorry. It was so cute.
Love the vanilla directions.
😂
❤ it!
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Ahh so excited to make vanilla for gifts! I’ve been wanting to do that for a long time.
Also where do you get your headbands from? They’re so adorable!

Thank you, thank you for the reminder! Eight months ago I started vanilla for use this holiday season and gifting and have not once thought about it this summer. Experimenting this year with Madagascar beans in white rum, vodka, spiced rum, and bourbon. Making in pint jars and will decant in a couple of months and we'll see what's a keeper and what's not. This is so personal for everyone.
Love that. Please let me know what the results are
@@WhisperingWillowFarm I will.
You made this vanilla extract way more complicated than it needed to be…..just slice all the vanilla beans down the middle lengthwise, and put them into the large 360 Vodka bottle….shake it once in a while. when ready use a funnel and pour the now ready vanilla extract into the smaller bottles. I have been making vanilla extract for decades….I always keep ALL the vanilla beans in the “mother bottle” as I gift some of the extract, I top off the mother bottle…..this way you will never run out of vanilla extract
Really just cut bean in half. Don't even need to slice down middle. OMG I did my first time like that & took all the caviar & put in the alcohol. Took so long. Now I just cut in half, put alcohol in a quart mason jar & add everything.
Great tip, thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for showing us how to make vanilla extract. I can not wait. To get someone to go to the store. Ir to order the stuff except the vodka i will have someone to pick that up for me. But thank you for sharing.❤
Do you also make flavored oils? If so could you please do a video of it?
Where can I get some of your recipes?
Stay tuned friend
Maybe you should by organic alcohol as well......?
@@jacquelinesmit876 I’ve never heard of organic alcohol or ever seen it
❤
I made some in Jan 2024.
I just notices that I did not cover them. Maybe a 1/2inc. What should I do now. I feel like I mess it up. 😢
❤❤
Only thing to keep in mind is it can only be used in baked items, not smoothies like orange julius or homemade coffee creamer, etc because it still tastes like alcohol.
I made some last year - one with Volka and one with Bourbon. They are 19 months old and neither one taste like alcohol. I make my own Creamer and use vanilla in it.
@@dancnluc1 huh. Well, we used vodka and ours does. Maybe you’re not as sensitive to the taste or maybe I need to use way more beans? Ours has been sitting in the alcohol for 2 years.
@@MFaith777 I used quit abit of beans. I was worried at first of the bourbon one. The longer it sat, the better. I perfer the volka one. I even gifted my daughter some of the one with Volka and she loved it. So much better than store bought. I just do not taste any alcohol in anything I make with it.
@@dancnluc1 I do not taste alcohol in any of the baked items but definitely do in cold items so maybe I will buy some more beans and add them and see if it helps.
@@MFaith777 I hope it works for you. I have been enjoying making my own creamer.
