  • Welcome to the channel, I have been looking for a new laser engraver for a while but just didn't know what to buy. There are so many different lasers on the market now all with some good and some bad reviews, until I came across the Sculpfun S9, after watching many many videos and reading lots of reviews I know this was the laser for me. so after doing dome web surfing and finding the best deals I purchased the Sculpfun S9 with Air Assist and Limit Switches.
so here is the unboxing and assembly and a short test.
More videos to follow while I am getting use to the settings.
I hope you enjoy and keep and eye out for future videos to come with the Sculpfun S9 laser.

I bought one of these laser cutter machines as i had a project that required large letters for a sign for a friends shop. This machine made very light work making the letters for the sign i used 6mm birch ply and the laser cut it in 2 passes at 90% power at a speed of 150mm /minute this was without the air assist as i had to wait a couple of weeks for the air assist kit to arrive. I am very impressed just how well this little machine works. When i bought it on Amazon it was at a discounted price i have got the limit switch kit scheduled for delivery today so if it arrives early enough i will fit it. I have a few projects i intend using this machine on. all in all it is a good machine for a very good price.

150 mm/sec 6mm thick 2 phases, that's impressive are you sure you have the 5 watt laser and not the 10 or 20 watt?

No it came with 5w laser and I have added air assist.

The center of gravity of the gantry could've been designed to be lower, if they didnt want to make the work area to have a larger frame. Right now, it appears to be trying to compensate its stability, which makes it wiggle so easily when you were showing how you had to tighten it to try to reduce but not elimate the gravity related challenges of the height of the Y axis distance from the X axis.
Those triangular brackets, they could've been of equal length to their 3 sides, and that would've easily made it more stable.
If it causes issues with accuracy or has to run too slow, maybe try makiing some laser cut replacements of those triangular Y axis towers, though it would reduce the work area of the X axis accordingly.
Also, it is possible to extend the lengths of both X and Y axis's a slight amount longer with addons that stop just short of where the rollers travel so they wont hit any divots. It would be minimal but if really wanted to get back the lost workspace size or to make it slightly larger for specific material reasons.
I got a s30 ultra in the mail halfway here as of now, so I am very new to this I admit. But have been noticing some anomalies within the sculpfun product line when it comes to not have proper wifi, even though it was advertised as having wifi, its really only bluetooth I was told by someone else who purchased the so called wireless option. It even uses the same antenna as a wifi router to really confuse new customers. That antenna could've been parked INSIDE the casing with a window to not block signal, a more durable design so the antenna never gets smashed into during real world use case scenarios. The cabling too, it shouldve poured out of the SIDE rather than the TOP of the casing of the controller card.
I might toss the sculpfun controller card into a box and go with a entirely more robust card that DOES have wifi rather than bluetooth, to work within a wifi network spanning further than the short range and speeds of bluetooth. I wonder if any skipping of lines of code occur within bluetooth if running fast transits with the drivetrain. Also it would be nice to have a proper control pendant, maybe a creality sonicpad, the sonic pad wants wifi not bluetooth from what I understand of it.
I also need a higher camera mounting setup than sculpfun's one has, and apparently they never mentioned a critical detail for people wanting to order the 900x930mm extension kit, the motors wont work right because they are not the same as what its shipping with my s30 ultra.
The sellers are not being properly transparent, its cryptic and causing customers to make incorrect expensive purchases!
I bought a adventure that really could've been avoided. I think sculpfun is aware of what they are doing yet have made no effective effort to correct the misinformation being posted all over the marketplaces online in regards to the product line specifications, neglecting to inform of vital critical info of the limitations.
We should contact them and push them towards legit adventure free transparency, so things just work right out of the box instead of turning into a frustration for a yet to be determined period of time. Had I been aware of the adventure factor, I definitely wouldve grabbed a xtool or some other brand instead.
The only thing that enticed me, was the larger work area of the extension kit. They should include proper motors with that kit!
Another customer tried to ask them about the motors, but sculpfun didnt tell him, instead they treated the stepper motors as if to be some special trade secret, basically kicking sand in the face of the already frustrated customer who was 4 months into trying to get the 'adventure' to reach a productive conclusion.
They even sent him 2 controller cards, and they didnt even check to make sure they were shipping the customer the proper ones, and he had to get them to make further shipments.
What a hidden nightmare, no apologies, just taking the money..

You seem to have a lot of issues with a machine you haven’t even received yet, for the money they are one of the best lasers engravers out there.

thanks rob, s30 has a larger laser so i would expect that, bit it carries a much higher price tag too.

Nice new toy Steve. Have you thought about adding a camera to Lightburn for the laser? You can trace around objects too with it.

Thanks Andy, I have but need to get a proper cabinet around it first. Once it all done and finished I will be installing a camera like I had on the other one.

You have the S30 motherboard. You didn't need to reflash the firmware to enable the limit switches, You also won't be fitting a Z axis to that motherboard as there is no Z Axis port

Interesting video Steve. I'm guessing the cut performance here is down to the 0.06mm square (they don't say, but...) laser beam. The base model is very cheap as well!

      @SKKrafts  Рік тому

Thanks Paul, I think so mate, I have managed to get it to cut in one pass at 140mm/m at 95% laser power.
Very happy with it and like you say not a bad price too.
