Focusing the Model 2 money on ramping battery production and R&D Robotaxi startup production at GigaTexas makes perfect sense. By Jan. 2025 the political outlook and the Chinese threat, and the FSD capabilities will be much better understood. GigaMexico can be built in a year or less and will be tooled for whatever is appropriate based on how 2024 plays out.

It's likely that Tesla will sell all of its production and receive a percentage of revenue from the Uber-like companies that buy, manage and operate them. Some version of FSD will be on each Robotaxi and Tesla will provide AI/compute resources ongoing. Setting up production in Austin will create a template for production of the Model 2 and Robotaxi lines in Mexico, India and elsewhere. Bottom line is more revenue and sooner. Sluggish sales today might be based on the belief that a Model 2 delivery is likely this year or next. Robotaxi may change that belief.
