I have an 88 4x4 Toyota Van that I purchased from a storage yard that was in similar shape as yours. Be carful sliding the temp control levers to aggressively. The plastic structure that holds everything together is really brittle in these older vans and break easily. These vans are notorious for over heating. Consider replacing the entire cooling system! Once you get it all dialed in you will really enjoy driving it. I have replaced MANY parts on mine. Do not worry about the broken distributor you can get a replacement on Rock Auto. Keep the vids coming.
Glad you saved that van. I pondered on it too long. When I finally contacted the seller about picking up on Thursday, he said he had someone coming to look on Tuesday he’d let me know.
Cool to see back when you got this van. The suspense was on hearing that seat leather crackle as it was about to fall, then just staring at that jetski driveshaft waiting for it to get nudged. I ended up setting up a ratchet strap to the seatbelt, around the seat, then other end to the door hook.
your actions remind me of vice grip I have owned several of these vans very kool when they were shipped over most had the rear air then different companys would put interiors in them
As you know the 4ye is a forklift engine. NEVER PUT A 3YE IN A 4X4! Unless you want to burn a full tank of gas in 50 miles. No b.s. do not ever consider it.
@@deathwobble I’ll will definitely follow your progress with this van! I acquired my toyota ‘van’ some months ago, but in a somewhat better condition. Bodywork has 3 colors, dents, rust. Pretty much none of the electrics worked, it leaked all kinds of fluids, suspension was collapsed. But it did run. And i think it is worth fixing up, as I do not live in the usa, and my ‘van’ is the only one in the country. And I lack much mechanic experience, or funds to hire a professional, so I am happy to learn from your experiences!
When I went to Universal Studios in Orlando in '92, I saw one of these Van's done up as the Ninja Turtles van. All four of them came out, and Mikey kissed my aunt Pat on the head.

Yea these things need an actual prop rod
It was such a crunchy mess!

Yea Toyota mainly sent them as panel vans to avoid high taxes. Trucks and equipment weren't taxed as heavily as passenger cars
Novus glass still has windshields. I’m driving a couple of hours to go grab one for my ‘89 project.
Nice to see more vids out there!! Keep it up!!
Excellent. I'm most concerned about the chrome trim around the windshield surviving the replacement 😬
@@deathwobble it can be pulled without warping. Just go REALLY SLOW!!! AND…when it comes time to reinstall. There are clip kits on Ebay to be had. :)
I’ve lived through you since the day you offered the 80s pickup for my blue camo sr5 86 hatch hahaha like 12 years ago… keep it up man!
Limme get that 86 😂
I have been rocking Toyota vans for work almost 20 years. Hilarious roast. Most is correct
Cannot believe how much I enjoy this silly van

wow your van has cupholders! That is so cool, I only got a useless storage space in that spot!
They're fairly useless cup holders. But definitely neat to have
