" I've always wondered why nobody does that" - That's why Fringe rocks!
*squeaks aggressively*
Absolutely correct. This show was a weekly anticipated joy.
I always loved Astrid. I bawled my eyes out the first time I watched this scene. I did it again just a few seconds ago.
Her reaction, when Walter gets the doppelgangers name right, is precious.
I met this actor Jasika Nicole last week when she was performing in funny short play at the Sci-Fest in Hollywood with a bunch of actors from Star Trek and Heroes, and she was an absolute doll; just what you'd think she would be. We talked about this episode extensively, I we could see how proud she was of it. I'm so happy to have been able to meet and talk with her. Such a sweetheart.
Lucky you :) I live in scandinavia so it would be very expensive for me to meet her unfortunately.... But she is a person i really look up to and i love her graphic novel work
She should be proud of it, she did a hell of a job..
I love all of the characters in Fringe. However, Astrid is by far my favourite character in both universes. I wished they would have explored her backstory a little more. She's a main character goodness' sakes.
Omar Garad yeah...not sure why with 100 episodes this was the only one where we got some Astrid love...
@@kschell286 That's pretty much my only major complaint with Fringe. If only it could've gotten a bug budget for a full fledged season 5.
A bit late to the party, but the actress tweeted about how she was treated on set, so there's probably something there, unfortunately...
I mean, they barely explored any character's backstory except for Peter's and Olivia's.
Even Walter's backstory was mainly used to explain Peter's.
They never explored Bell's, or Nina's, even Lincoln's.
”Bolivia? The viper!” lmaoo I love Walter
"All personal meetings are in the flesh"
I think Jasika is a very talented actress and maybe a even more enjoyable person. What a wonderful bubbly personality. I was glued to the set during this episode. Sometimes episodes can get predictable and without something to grab you your mind can wander off. Not this one, I think I can speak for many and say we've been waiting for an "Astrid" episode. I fully heartedly agree with Lance Reddick when, in the extras, he states: "She nailed it" (referring to this episode). What a wonderful performance by Jasika here. I enjoyed her all throughout this series but she earned a new level of respect from me here. Damn, I teared up. :-) Bravo!!
If anyone is interested, the woman who plays Astrid, Jasika Nicole, is the main character of the podcast 'Alice Isn't Dead', and it's really good.
Thank you a lot for this! I'll start listening tonight
And the mayor on later episodes of Welcome to Nightvale. Which I literally just realized while catching up on Nightvale today.
hahaha, the first person to actually scream at their double LOL.
Massive props for the producers, writers, and Jasika Nicole, the actress who played Astrid, for nailing an accurate portrayal of Asperger Syndrome ppl or neurodivergent ppl.
If I remember correctly, Jasika said she based the portrayal of her alt universe character on a family member.
This needs alot more than 5. Best show I've watched in years
This is my favorite episode of the show. So heartfelt.
I have seen this dozens of times ..episode " making angels ". Love it
'All personal meetings are in the flesh.' Loved that line. Also, when Walter calls AltAstrid 'Astrid,' our Astrid goes, 'really? You get HER name right?!!
Astrid's relationship with Walter, and how it develops throughout Fringe is one of my favourite of the show.
I will always love this scene JN is just so great in it. I'm still obsessed with this great show.
I love Astrid already, and I love her altAstrid too, both of them in the same room gave me a diabetic attack of the cuteness!!!
Astrid was my favorite shortly after i started season 1... I dont know there was just something special about her... But ironically sheis the character they focused least on in the entire show :/ But still i loved this episode it was so amazing
This could be my favourite episode of Fringe (big call by the way as I love them all) and it's all due to Jasika Nicole's amazing acting skills. I re-watch this episode more than any other and it's all about the way she makes both characters come to life.
Love the way Walter chews on the word détente, before he spits it out at 2:24
Ohhh I just love Astrid
I love the scene later where alt-Astrid talks about her father and their relationship. That part got to me.
I never quite understood why the writers room of that show never what knew what to do with Astrid, I wish they gave her more things to do, that we discovered a little bit more about her... for my part I always thought for a long time that by the end of the series we will discover that a very old Astrid is telling that story or writing "The Book of Astrid' or something but well no, they just didn't know what to do with her... I understand who the central characters were but still!
She was the lab assitant/research assistant/ communications. A super assistant basically. She was Olivia's assistant and when Olivia started working with Walter and Peter, she and the group still needed an assistant. So Astrid transfered over with Olivia.
Wouldn't really make sense for her character to suddenly become primarily a field agent and start carrying a gun and taking down bad guys. And vice versa she wasn't going to randomly get smarter and became a scientist (though was plenty smart in her own right, just not in the fringe sciences)
@Steve Smith she wasn't an assistant, she was a junior FBI agent being trained by Olivia. See episode one.
@@kristiemao4275 A Junior Agent with a scientific education it looked through.
'And there were chances to rewrite her character into a more aggressive form as has happend with the role of Claudia Brown played by Lucy Brown on the British show PRIMEVAL.
At first she had played the Staff Assistant of James Lester before she became in her second role as Jennifer Lewis the more active Public Relations Specialist of the team and later on even the team leader in the field
Yes I agree on this show all the characters are special. It deserves more than just 5 seasons!
you didn't think to name her Altstrid? :D
Walter + Walternate
Olivia + Fauxlivia
Oh god Astrid is so cute and now there's two of them :) so CUTE :)
I think she was always my favorite character, but if they'd never done this episode I could never have forgiven the producers for wasting such an amazing character. After it, you could kind of forgive them for not dwelling on her, or forcing conflicts to expand on her character, because maybe her life was just more stable than all the other characters. And so her efforts to help the Fringe team seem all the more valiant, knowing she could walk away and live her life happily if she wanted to.
Loved it then. Looked it up now when my night nurse had the same name. She even resembles her! So watched the alt. Astrid scene with her and sre remembered it too and is goingto show off tonight for co- workers at Boston hospital
*came thru a portal to heal me!
This scene turns me into a blubbering crybaby every time. Ugghh, the feels tho :'(
Best Show I Have Ever seen and it wont be a show like this Never Ever
and so far i love Astrid :x
Nowadays there's tons more shows like this.
this episode is art
It takes a few moments to realize what Alt-Astrid is talking about, and then it hits you..
thank you jaskia
Astrid was my fave character on the show. And she seemed to be a fave character with many people. At ComiCons, Jasika Nicole would always get the more questions than the main cast. It's really too bad has she was so mistreated by the studio and producers. And even though I personally loved the gag where Walter could never remember Astrid's name, apparently Jasika took great offense to this, and thought it was due to racism. I think she was wrong about that. It was just Walter being ... Walter. And it made her character's name stick in our mind, and make her even more endearing.
I always assumed it was just one of Walter tics to forget Astrid's name. I feel badly that it caused JN so much hurt. Her character had so much unused potential, but I adore her character. She's brilliant and so caring to Walter.
This young lady is one of the most emotionally and physically attractive actresses I’ve ever seen. She truly is a living doll. She is the personification of feminine.
I'm the same way! I will always fall for the minor characters. Its why I love Fringe so much, they focus on not only the main cast but the...I don't wanna call Astrid a minor character but I love that they don't focus only on the main cast. They will focus on the other characters as well.
Seeing past, present, future simultaneously quite the dangerous thing in confused, mad minds (Cap't Obvious made me say it)
How were the filmmakers able.to film such q sequence? Can anyone tell
Like they did for twin scenes in the past. They filmed her playing Astrid, likely reading lines to someone off camera then they had her change outfits and they did the same thing again but this time she’s Alt Astrid and they just digitally added the two scenes together.
astrid became my favorite after this episode
she has always been my fav from the start but i dont generally fall for the main characters even though i love all the characters on this show.i wish we could see more alt Astrid. here we are about to go into the final season and are just now getting to know her and they close the bridge? really? grr
Astrid.....Really , you get her's right ?!
Haha
Lovely by two.
AltAstrid's tone of voice reminds me of Hailee Steinfeld's in "True Grit." Anyone else?
“They come in twos. You come in twos. You and you. Kill your double.”
I have an update, I don't want to die.
Man, was that a slap in the face for our astrid who gets her name mispronounced
Eyyy it's Asterisk... Asteroid.. Asterick.. I mean Astrid!
Quite sad. Astrid had to lie about her father to make Altsrid feel a bit better about herself.
Get yourself a friend who offers you to join them for a plate of eggs (with chives) in ur darkest hour
Oh Astrid :)
That scream
0:08
my mother zodiac sign is Cancer, my father was A Leo, Moon and Sun, they made egg sandwiches today in the crazy house, 8:08 on the clock right now. My blood type is the same as Walter
when she says "walter" and gives him that look i picture him getting poped with a ruler.Am i the only one who sees this? its our new phrase around my house when one of us irritates the other.
Why didn’t they name her “alterid”
Astrid 🍺
She's better in Night Vale and Alice Isn't Dead.
