When i see a recipe online, specially cooking hacks, I have to try it. I am not a particularly good cook, so if there's an easy way to make delicious food, you bet I'm in. And when i saw this KFC Rice Cooker hack that delivers delicious chicken rice... i couldn't not try it.
And spoiler alert, this one was both easy AND delicious, so you should definitely give it a go. '
KFC Rice Cooker Chicken Recipe
1 rice cooker cup, uncooked rice
1 tablespoon soy sauce
chicken broth (or 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon)
2 original KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) Original Recipe
Now I wanted to switch things up a little bit, and since one of my all time favourite comfort foods is Hainanese Chicken Rice, I thought, why not make all the Hainanese Chicken Rice sauces?
Ginger & Shallot Sauce
2 Spring Onion
1 tablespoon grated ginger
3 tablespoon peanut oil
pinch of salt
Chili & Garlic Sauce
half a chili
4 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon sugar
pinch of salt
1 teaspoon chicken broth
Soy Sauce (this is so basic lol)
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon chicken broth
These sauces brings so much to the chicken dish, especially the ginger and Shallot Sauce mix. it just completely elevates it. if you are going to try out this KFC Rice Cook Hack, and you can only be bothered to make once sauce mix, make it the ginger and shallot sauce.
In Thailand we had a very similar recipe like this that is very popular. It's like hainanese chicken and rice but with fried chicken instead. I missed it a lot but too lazy to fry chicken myself. I will give this recipe a try. I knew I'm going to love it. Thanks for sharing.
OMGosh! I tried it and it was DELICIOUS! Super easy and fast recipe, thank you for sharing!
I must try. thank you!
Definitely going to try this! Thanks for sharing!
Let me know how u go!
What a great idea! I am going to try this cheers.
That Looks Very Delicious. I got to try that. I love your videos
very sincere and honest cooking. Thanks.
Another fantastic video Janice-senpai. I tried the dumpling recipe from the last video and it turned out to be amazing. My grandma was shocked to taste such delicious dumpling made by a dope like me. Thank so much. Looking forward for new videos on travelling and food. Love from Singapore.
Hahah I’m glad you and your grandma liked it! Can’t go wrong with dumplings hey 🥟
@@JaniceFung Right. Obachan-San was quite fascinated by your recipes as well.
Omg I need to try this!
It’s good if you have left over kfc!
I cannot wait to try again thank you soo much
Thanks Janice, I made this today with the ginger and shallot dipping sauce as well. What a TASTE sensation! Will make this again! Really enjoying your channel!
Nice!! I’m glad you liked it Zoey!
Wow the steps are easy to follow !! Looks tasty !
I know right! And so quick to make
Ahh I'm trying this, thanks for the idea.
Thanks for sharing. Will definitely try.
let me know how you go :)
HELLOO from NY... I'm so happy found your channel I LOVE IT:)
Fabulous and very addictive I love it.
I'd never seen this before, it's definitely on for tea tomorrow!! Thanks for sharing, sending e-hugs from Wollongong xx
Okay you've officially convinced me to try this... definitely gonna pair it with the chili too!
Yes! I wana see u do a home made chilli oil or something 🤗 I feel like my tolerance is getting better lol
I am impressed - thank you
Ooo awesome idea to recreate the chicken rice sauces!! Except I'll pass on the ginger 😅😅
It looks so good! I must try it.
🍗😋
That ginger onion oil looks so legit!!!!! I could eat that straight up!!!!
This is how risotto is cooked except in an automatic rice cooker.
I'm definitely going to try this as I hate having to keep watch and add the stock bit by bit.
Thank you ao soo much for this
Thanks for recipe! We make this regularly now with leftover Hot n Spicy pieces. Love the spring onion sauce!
Wow watching this was great, throoughly enjoyed!!
Thanks for watching rachel :)
Love the condiment twist.
Thankyou for this video Janice. It all looks good.
Thank you Jeff!
Thanks Janice have to try that with my leftover KFC, love the green onion sauce with everything 👍
Yesss it’s so appetising !
Looks fantastic, I will have to try this sometime soon .Nice vlog as always stay safe take care
Thanks so much Michael, appreciate it
Perfect for portion control quick and easy
It's very satisfying that your mum is enjoying your kfc rice.
We have same rice cooker!. Rice cooker buddies. Yay!.
Yummy I'm going cook this kfc& rice recipe too ..
Made this today! Yummmmm. I used hot and spicy chicken, made the shallot and ginger sauce but with vegetable oil and a little bit of sesame oil cause i didn't have peanut, kecap manis then used Lee kum kee chilli oil with white vinegar, sugar and some extra garlic. Even more of a cheat version but was delicious 😍
Try the larger holes on your grater, much easier. I only use the very small ones to make garlic juice and pulp for garlic butter.
I always make chicken and rice in my rice maker. The seasoned chicken cooks on the bottom. I don't bother rinsing rice, but then it depends on your rice. I put frozen veggies on top to steam. It makes a great one pot meal.
Thank you thank you thannnkkk you Janice for sharing, specially the Scallion ginger oil. I already forgotten about this amazing condiments thats perfect for Hainanese chicken and other Filipino chicken and fish recipes, since i moved to the States.
It also reminds me of my childhood!
It's been like..20yrs!.
Surely you have another subscriber/follower coming from the crazy state of California. 👍😊.
Cheers!
I recommend a really good peeler for the ginger. Makes it fast and easy.
Hahah I remember we talked about Wicked Wings when I was there and I was like we don't have that in the US... 😂
The name is nasty. Wicked is very unappetizing.
I wouldn't get something named "wicked", on principle, as well as wickedness is horrible and the thought of it is gaggy.
Kathleen Norton you must be a bible basher.
I love chicken and rice I'm going to have to try this
Made this twice... pretty good...I add in few slices of ginger and garlic into the rice before cooking it.... thinking of adding a bit of butter too
Ooo let me know how it is after you add the butter!
Totally understood what mommy was saying.. And if she says it's good, then it must be fabulous! Ho mei.. good aroma!
Haha but just a tad bit salty
Never heard of the KFC rice but looks good. Thumbs up
Growng up down South, the 'KFC chicken hack' thing... not new. My mom was doing it in the 60's, but she used the left over gravy as sauce... I am so trying that ginger scallion sauce.
you rock !!! thank you for your nice video
We tried this at our home. We love it!
Glad it worked! Did u try any of the sauces??
@@JaniceFung No. I have an extremely picky family. But they really like the recipe.
...this looks like such an easy meal! perfect for long days, gonna try it out when I'm feeling lazy.
Yeah or may kfc chicken congee?
Really yummy 😄next time must try it out also
Let me know how u go!
This hack really worked well! The ginger and shallot definitely lifted it to another level.
I didn't know this was a thing. Looks delicious.
Love your videos got a quick question can you news hot and spicy chicken with it
Nice presentation. Bold in your abandonment of corporate job to persue your dream. Natural beauty and very personable. The best of luck in all you do!
I’d be struggling not to eat the kfc before I did this in the cooker
You know it!
Yummooo! Jamie Oliver hack - freeze your chillies as they will make it easier to grate 😊😊 X
Where have been all my life ? Scallion and ginger oil..! Super freaking yum...!!!
omg i just feel in love
Liked & subscribed.
I tried this today for lunch, the joy of WFH. Used leftover red roasters chicken (don't ask) instead of KFC, substituted soy sauce for light soy sauce (less salty). Made 1st and 2nd condiments. I'm a big fan of ginger/shallot oil. The hack really does work, it was absolutely delicious and perfect for lunch. Thank you Janice for making the video, I'm a big fan of yours.
Nice! I’m so glad you enjoyed it :) I’m a huge fan of the ginger/ shallot oil too - I think it goes so perfectly with chicken and rice 😊
I use chicken tenders or boneless wings and mixed frozen veggies, mushrooms with chicken stock. It’s fantastic!
Your demeanour, attitude and looks make you so likeable
So good
cheers Ben!
OMG! Chicken Rice from Singapore...... possibly their greatest gift to mankind.
😋👍🏆Thank you for sharing , I'm very impress .😋👍🍜🍗🏅🏆
Fung siew che...you sure clever girl. i am going to try this short cut deliciousness. Watching this is a McDonald ice cream Auntie ,Singapore. PS your sauces are interesting. mmm yummy :)
Jimmy's Kitchen Town Hall is great and I miss it in this pandemic. They're really efficient at putting out their laksa noodles pronto too. Curious about this hack, but it makes a lot of sense. The KFC spices plus the broth to steam the rice, it basically takes all the flavour into the rice and the cook softens the meat, genius.
You always make me feel hungry
I some times get hungry when I edit too lol
I love your accent and your reaction said everything hahahahaha and I'm going to try this
its good to connect on your channel... keep sharing..
Dear Janice, love your videos and videos. I’m in Sydney and although I’m a Scottish guy I have spent a lot of time in south east Asia and my daughter is half Thai. Your recipes are brilliant and I love watching your posts. Love from Michael in petersham
you actually used the Thigh piece and drumstick. ;)
I noticed that. My high school KFC stint taught me. Thigh 'n' drum are the best pieces for this dish.
Is good. I cooked it too
Thanks for this, now I know what to do with the left over chicken .
I loved the K.F.C. recipe that looked so good. In America were I am from in the state of Louisiana. That's just chicken and rice casserole. But those sauces you made for yours looked really delicious.I will continue to watch your channel Janice. Wish Me and You could meet and do some cooking together we would have a great time. Cooking simple dishes is a true art. Learning to blend spices and ingredients just right takes a lot of patience but it is so worth it in the end right Janice. God Bless You.
Thanks so much Sheryl! Still heaps to learn, but Learning as I go ☺️ let me know if you have any easy recipe ideas!
You didn’t say anything because your face of satisfaction said it all!! 😂
Great work friend.
Thanks!
Oh man she just made my day teaching this 😁😁😁😁😁🤣🤣
Janice Fung The ginger and scallion oil can benefit from a liberal dash of 沙薑粉 , that would bring it up to the next level.
I’m trying this now 😆
How did u go?
@@JaniceFung it turned out pretty good the chicken fell off the bone. I didn’t make the condiments but I had it with the spare kfc sauces I had!
Ham jor di ahhh jie jie
Yum .👍👍💚
We had that chicken at Jimmy's Recipe in Klang, Malaysia!
KFC from Mac Centre!! Great video from a HoE member!!!
We don't have the 'KFC Go Box' in the UK - Must be an Australian thing. That KFC chicken in the rice cooker/rice scooper shot looked mouthwatering!
Yeah a go box is like either the wings or the chicken with the chips. Perfect as a snack 😅 it was! And perfect for if you’re lazy and want chicken rice
Hey I just noticed there's a Chinese calendar on the left top, something I was growing up with too.
It's easy to grate frozen ginger😉
Have you tried infusing it with rice congee? with kamkuats and fish sauce and chili?
in the soy sauce you could try a touch of vinegar and a half a chili pepper should add a little kick to the sauce.or if you don't want spicy a little oyster sauce or hoisin.
Can you recommend the best feeds in Sydney for my restaurant onslaught this weekend. (Inbetween the pub onslaught) So overly excited to indulge in our city again.
me too man im so excited to start going out. what kinda food are you keen for?
@@JaniceFung Chinese, Viet, Indian and any other Asian cuisine. I know a few being from the Central Coast, but not like a local Sydney sider would. Thanks!
I used to use a lot of fresh ginger - I’d blend enough for the week n kept in fridge. I tried grating recently n it was very difficult. I found it was better to chop finely n mash with a pinch of salt in a mortar and pestle. Cut against the stringy fibres
Like just blend in a blender?
Cheers for the tip!
Crikey!
last week Cilantro this week Scallions?
Try spring onions or shallots
Good video Janice
PS: get a micro plane for the ginger
Haha we use them interchangeably, sometimes with Chinese mixed in 😅
Thanks for the tip Steve!
Janice I'm Malaysian and I highly recommend the hainanese chicken rice at Malay Chinese takeaway in Wynyard. Their laksa is to die for you which you already know. I ought to try the hainanese chicken rice place you recommend to compare
Ok I will make sure I try their chicken rice next time! It’s just every time I go there I get tempted by their laksa and don’t wana order anything else 😅
cantonese at the end XD nice
ginger chili and shallots are the best for the chicken rice! KFC rice! :)
Agreed! They are so appetizing! ☺️
Great video (as usual) Janice, but just to clarify, did you mean chicken "stock" when you said chicken "broth"? There's a huge difference both in flavour and in price between them. Cheers.
Cheers David, I meant chicken stock!
Inspiring Janice, thanks. I'm going to buy a rice cooker and try this. My favourite place for chicken rice is Baba Laksa House in the George Hotel, have you tried it there?
Nope I haven’t.. but it’s on my list now!
You gotta try KFC popcorn chicken and congee, haha!
thats a thing?! :O
Singapore has it.
@@JaniceFung I'm not sure if it is or not. It was just something I had during uni because I was lazy with cooking. A few other people I know have mentioned they did it too. I used it as a substitute for youtiao. Although other times I just add it straight into the congee.
Janice Fung yup I do it in malaysia too lol it’s fast & delicious
Well now I have a reason to use the rice cooker that I received as a gift two years ago!
Haha let me know how you go!
Add choy sum with wonton soup will elevate it further. Can never go wrong with adding garlic, onion, ginger to any dish also chili and lemon. Seems your academic achievements were the decision by parents, nevertheless the credibility, skill and knowledged gained can be leveraged to lead a richer life. I admire your sea change!!
Me and my husband live in our car. And I've never seen your channel before but you are so cool. You should use peas and carrots. That's what I tell my husband all the time.
i like it when you speak fluent cantonese! thank you for this easy and tasty recipe.
Thanks for watching Steve!
