This is the race you want to row as a team. Usually a team has one boat. It is a serious heavy race which you have trained for. This race was, altough it looks very clear, a heavy one due to the wind. I recall a female team with 6 rowers that made it in over 5 hours. Around 10-15 teams or so didnt make it in time and ran aground due to the outgoing tide. I could make this film due to the very clear conditions. It was spectacular to see.

The water looked VERY choppy, I could tell that the wind was working against them, but I didn't know it was so severe. I can't imagine rowing all-out for 5 hours...Amazing endurance. I got nothing but respect for everyone who participates!

The HT Sloop (or longboat) Race, simply called the HT race, is one of the largest sloop races in the Netherlands and is also called the 'Queen's Tour' in the rowing world. During this annual race, approximately 130 teams, both men and women, row across the Wadden Sea from Harlingen to Terschelling in all weather conditions. It is a trip of approximately 34 kilometers and takes between 2 1/2 and 5 1/2 hours, depending on the wind, the sea and the fitness of the rowers.
Each sloop has its own escort vessel, with the result that the Wadden Sea is quite busy during the event with sloops, sailing ships, motor boats, tour boats, rescue boats, Rijkswaterstaat ships and the police. The ferries that sail between Harlingen and Terschelling are accompanied by police vessels through the field of participants.
The first edition was in 1975, when only 2 boats participated.

The race is at the waddenzee, a real sea below the islands in the north. It falls partially dry during low tide thats why you see some bigger ships on the dryfalling plates, these are the flatbottems like the Friesian skutches. It it an awesome sight and experience.
The lighthouse is The Brandaris, oldest still working lighhouse of the netherlands. Opened in 1594... the race is 49 years old. Its track is 33 kilometer, about 21 miles and heavyiest row race of the country.

Nice video man they hold this sloop race every year it is a tradition this is on the Waddenzee! You must discover this island it is beautiful, Especially the north side on the Northsee with the beautiful beach it is a holiday destination and we have 5 of these islands but this is the largest, This one is called Terschelling!! 👍🧡🤗
This year (2024) there were a 141 boats that competed.
