When the snes first came out, my dad took me to a electronics shop where they had a display snes up and running. F-Zero was playing. My dad got me to try it 'i was only 7 or 8' and he was laughing and joking saying "oh you can't do it, shall we not get it" 😄
He didn't buy it while we was there, but a couple of weeks later it was Christmas day and it took pride of place under the tree as the main present for me and my brother. Happy memories ☺
My dad loved to play too!
He would stop up late playing on the likes of Chrono trigger, Secret of Mana and Zelda.
I think we played 80% of what games there ever was.

This game was so much more than a "tech demo". If fact it's probably my favorite racing game on the system. It gets brutal with the Master difficulty but you have to beat it to see the true ending.
I love that sound of early SNES games which all use that same drum sample and bassline for the tracks. My favorite tracks in the game are probably Big Blue and Port Town.
I never knew Mute was an abbreviation for Mutant but it makes sense. I also really like the old comic book version of Captain Falcon. He looks more like a futuristic racer where as his current form makes him look more like a super hero.
It's sad to see that the F-Zero series has been dormant for quite some time but hopefully Nintendo brings it back someday.

    • @NESComplex

These videos are so full of passion for expressing the experience and the impact of these games, I can just feel it, and it's excellent in its delivery.

I mastered the original F-Zero as well as X and GX for years. My favorite racing game ever, and I can play it anyday. Looking back, the first game was a total revolution; fastest supersonic racing game then and 1st futuristic, SNES launch title, and had such intense gameplay and wonderful music and this is coming from a powerful home console in 1990! I bet this game had many people dropping their jaws when it was new. I'm glad I'm not the only person who noticed the Silence track looked like a 9mm pistol! Nowadays, we need a new F-Zero, but it's so unlikely, considering flatscreen and input lag ruining reaction times.

Something I can't find anywhere else is really putting me in that place and time, for either the NES or the SNES, they were before my time, so even with retro gaming as a passion, it's not for nostalgia for everything, but appreciation for what's come before I guess, so getting a sense for what it was really like to experience something like F-Zero and why it was so special isn't something I'd have really felt, even if I kinda understood it from an outsider point of view. @@Jolly-Green-Steve I don't think this is entirely true. Nintendo is one of the very few companies that still gives chances to franchises that don't sell very well for the sake of innovation, quality and fun. This isn't always the case, but even then we have to remember that companies exist to make a profit. So with that in mind, we customers are partly responsible for many good franchises dying out. Sad but true. On the other hand, Big N is very stubborn sometimes and don't seem to hear its fans out for what they really want. They often make games when and the way the feel like doing them.

It is very rare for me to like a game that is so frustratingly difficult, but the game is overall so well done that I kept trying until I've mastered it. I know Nintendo will make a new F-Zero someday, I just wish it happens soon. I agree that GX deserved to sell much better. As you said the game isn't very friendly towards casual (and even most hardcore) gamers, so it problably helped to make many stay away from it.

I got good at F ZERO. Back when it first came out . There was no other game like it , had you literally leaning into the turn with tongue firmly sticking out between your lips, so focused on the game . Lol. I loved that game .

Interestingly, Yumiko Kanki, according to her Nintendo fandom page, is credited for every single track theme in the game… except big blue, the most famous theme from the game. Ouch.
Fire field was always my favorite.

This is beautiful and brilliant, a genuinely caring retrospective with some awesome info. Wonderfully done. F-Zero, from the 90's comicbook graphics to the delightfully jazzy tunes, is just gorgeous. My very favorite game series, and a title I have loved since I was five.

I grew up playing F-Zero GX but over the past 7 years I’d say I’ve played every game (except for Climax, AX, or other official Japan only games) and this honestly teared me up a bit. It’s so great knowing more about the franchise I loved ever since I was a toddler and why it became such a success in the 90s. To this day I still pray every Nintendo Direct or E3 to just see at least a teaser for a new entry in the series. You’re such a great content creator and I wish you the best!

    • @NESComplex

I still believe we will get a follow up in the series, but each year that passes I begin to doubt. The Switch could use another solid racer in its line up.

Ahh yes, F-Zero, I didn't have this one myself growing up but one of my friends did and he would bring it over quite frequently. I actually got pretty good at it then but when I got the SNES mini and sat down to play it I discovered my reaction time now isn't what it used to be back then, don't get my wrong I still play the daylights out of it, there's just a bit more cussing now when I do play it.

    • @technozombie789
      @technozombie789 4 роки тому +1

It might not be your reaction time, but rather latency from the emulation or TV or both combined.

If you really wanna experience what it was like to play F-Zero as a kid, get an emulator, an old style controller and toggle the games speed to 1.5x.

Fire Field best total and lap time, White Lands 1 & 2 best total and lap time, and for the life of me cannot remember the 7th off the top of my head. All records can be found on Twin Galaxies. I still have a SNES and the game cartridge with the times on it. who knows someone may have kicked my ass since then...was a long time ago. i am not a pro, i just really enjoyed the game to the extreme.

thanks i appreciate it. i find there are tons of people out there that have world records like me. they just dont know it. i didnt know it. until discovering Twin Galaxies and browsing the records. i pulled out my old cartridges and powered it up and was like "mine is better than that", but then of course you have to practice and "do it for the camera" to submit it. but yea. im sure everyone has that one game that they played to perfection and dont know that what they saved on it may be the best anyone has done on that game.
