I just recently captured the achievement from the Center for defeating all the guardians. The boss arena on the Center is amazing. Also, that map is probably the second best map after Aberration for travel by Bloodstalker. Unlike Val and Ragnarock, which use mostly modded textures, the vanilla Center textures work on Linux, Stadia and MacOS. When Wildcard does a bad update, the Island and the Center generally continue to work. The paid and other free DLC devolve into flat broken plains with non-working models for buildings, mountains and caves.
I actually liked the missions on genesis it gives a lil more content then just finding creatures taming them and breeding them on other maps cause that tend to make ark boring a stale. in fact I came back to ark just to play on genesis cause of the missions.
So quick question just a yes or no will you do a 100 days on aberration or not due to the time you need or will you do it? Also will you do it with your large tribe
1. Genesis's missions do not have to be completed "10 timers per difficulty" -- just flat out wrong unless you were implying that because they're difficult and require retries? 2. Genesis 2's missions also do not require being playing "a minimum of 30 times" 3. I do agree that Crystal Isles is properly BARREN and empty, not a fan personally. 4. Glad ya put Scorched Earth high on the list. And they're putting a new cutscene in it in a couple months! 5. Aberration YEEESSSS! 6. Island's a good #1.
Very few of us out there that love the island as the best map. But The main thing i feel about the island, is that i think it was a labor of love for the devs. The first map, when they were making this game. I just feel the map was made SO well. Don't get me wrong, i LOVE many of the other maps, but something about the island is just... special. Especially if you were there as they were changing biomes, like the snow, swamp and redwoods as you were activly playing them :P
I never really got a feel for the island as I just find it a little vanilla and plain, The only maps I play regularly are SE and Rag as they both have things that can shift how you play, SE is probably my favourite as it has a great environment as well as challenges like weather and lack of shelter
I would definitely argue the #1 spot, it's boring, repetitive, high level hunting is almost impossible due to very low level spawning at high rates, very limited places to build imo with arguably the best spot being herbo island. But that's just MO. Also, as a solo player who plays official rules with the exception of being able to build anywhere including in mission zones, genesis 1 is not bad, granted the teleport ING is far to lengthy and the challenges are, at the higher levels at least, very unfair for a solo player or even a team but tbh I think the whole game is a joke. There's a difference between winning through skill and winning through recourses (time spent raising and breeding dinos and farming good saddles) which ark is literally based around. For me ark is just one of those games that's like 10% skill 90% luck and preparation, basically tuning everybody out who actually had a life and only gets to play a few hours a week. It would take a working class person months and months to complete even one map if they started fresh each time.
I love rag and lost island for the diversity of biomes. So I’d tie those for 1st place in my books. Followed by scorched I’d say. Crystal isles is beautiful but as you said i find it very empty also
Overall great list and I agree Fjordur might take top I loved the time I have had on it. My top three (excluding Fjordur) goes 1) lost island 2) Rag 3) OG island Thanks James for the awesome content and can't wait for the lost island run.
my personal list is.... 1 - valguero & fjordur 2 - crystal isles 3 - lost island & the island 4 - ragnarok & the center 5 - genesis 2 6 - scorched earth and the rest that i dont want to play in... genesis 1, aberration, extinction
Here’s my list 11 - Gen 1 10 - Gen 2 9 - The Center 8 - Crystal Isles 7 - The Island 6 - Extinction 5 - Valguero 4 - Scorched Earth 3 - Fjordur 2 - Extinction 1 - Aberration Aberration was just such an amazing change, instead of flying safely above everything once you got your first ptero, there was more exploration, and danger when moving or adventuring, and the 3 different zones which offered new resources and new dangers was such an amazing idea, giving the player different levels to progress through and conquer, with the addition of the rock drake and reaper, and the great early game ravager, along with the roll rat, and the addition to the new Charge mechanic, everything about Aberration was just done so perfectly, from the new gear and weapons, to the new games and dangers! Aberration will always be the best map in Ark in my opinion, with no other map even coming close
I'm still working through the story maps, but mainly use Crystal Isles for mod creatures and resources since my ragnarok and Island seem to have issue with respawning Crystal. Crystal isles is pretty, but it is very barren, especially in the floating isles where the Rock Drakes would have been. I have peeked at Scorched Earth, but never got far on it. If it wasn't Kapros and raptors, it was the lack of water. Definitely not the prettiest map, but brings a whole slue of new challenges that I look forward to meeting head on. I have not played either Genesis yet, but I probably will in time just to get a pair of really good Shadowmanes and other map specific creatures. The map is pretty, but like you said, the early game is half the fun of Ark. I have a Center map and think it's beautiful, and I'd have loved to make it my main map, but because of the lack of wyverns, wyverns won't breed on that map. Aberration is pretty, but I hate caves, I hate cave diving, and I hate trying to play in the dark. I detest basilisks and the grind for a hazmat suit is real. And don't get me started on those damn mushrooms. Granted I am totally bias because I rely on my flyers so the lack of fliers puts me in unfamiliar and uncomfortable territory. Lost island has been a treat, it's got all I enjoy, massive biomes, wyverns, map specific creatures I couldn't get prior, and ruins to explore. But the map is so big it takes forever to get anywhere. Even my high stam wyverns have to stop and rest periodically, and they can fly corner to corner on rag without landing. The Sinomacrops is cute and very handy, especially since I have started breeding Acros and they are just tall enough I take some pretty decent damage hopping off. The monkeys... I could live without them, and I don't care that they've put them on Valguaro now. My acro can handle them fine, but it makes our walks more annoying.
I've been on ark since there was only 2 maps, before the first Argy nerf. Sure. I'll map hope to unlock special engrams or trades, but 95% of my time is spent on the Island.
I feel like the genesis review was a tad harsh. I definitely enjoy it, and I know a ton of others who do also. it was just one of those maps that was either "love it or hate it" because from what I've seen, it's either absolutely amazing, or dismally boring. if I'm going to be honest though, 99% of people play this game for fun and the other 1% are actually interested in the story. I'm certainly in the latter.
"Genesis 1 and 2 are the last maps I would play" - in fairness I think that's how you're supposed to do it :p I feel like they were designed around the idea of "concluding the storyline," and meant to be played at the end of a storyline run rather than as a beginning survivor. So while I'd agree that things like the cash-shop and (for gen2) free tek suit eliminate that early-game struggle almost entirely, if you're playing those maps as an end-game conclusion rather than for the early-game struggle it's not quite as egregious. I loved Scorched myself, my only real complaints being the lack of a proper 'finish' (ie cutscene travelling to the next ark) and that I wish there was more to do there. Also, maps like Ragnarok that pretty much offered everything Scorched has plus more (and friendlier weather) kind of made it a bit... obsolete.
it's a good list, but I think that Gen 1 and 2 have a really bad rap. if you access them in the order they arrived - most recent (of the official DLCs), they make a lot of sense to the story. and if you're using an ascended character, you'd pretty much have tek then anyway, so it's thematic. what's crap is gen 1 not being able to use the tek suit abilities fully.
Thats why i love it, i play 90% of the time Gen 1 becuase of the hardness of the missions and the challange. Good example is doing the mission out of the frying pan even the gamma mission i needed 3 max giga. Also that you cant use a tek suit or flyer to fly away when you get in trouble
I’m my book. I would say gen 2, the center, extension are my favs. Gen 2 reminds me of a mass effect or halo style game. With the tames to follow and rockwells innards which drives me nuts. The center due to I believe it’s suck a beautiful map to build and play on. Extension because a ruin style map like mad max movies.
If i was the one that made the list i change places gen 2 with aberation gen 2 is a unike map that people like and hate they like the amount of resorces and space were you can bild and because ark is a old game it gives a chanse to new player to compite with bully alpha tribes
I completely disagree with Aberration not getting the love it deserves. That map is like 99% of players favorite, you see it in every Ark video comment section
Genesis 1 my favorite map i like always having the ability to teleport to completely different biomes and it just gives a lot of new expansion to the game
The disrespect for Gen 1. For me Best map by far, i never use the buy shop because i like the grind. and the missions (dino hunt) are challenging because you need good dino groups to complete.
Just tried Fjordur, and I was increasingly disappointed as time went by. Spawns were too much all over the place. "Easy spawn location" each and every one were filled with carnos and t.rexes, raptor packs of 5, argys, scorpions, insects, gallimimus, stego, trikes, you name it. All I didn't encounter on the beach were a handful of enemies. Iron ores were too rare and it shouldn't be considering the amount you need. The Island is and always will be number 1, imo.
i Strongly Disagree about Gen Part 2. Is my favorite map and also a great map for newbies. You get a functional Tek Suit on Spawn that doesn't need element to run. You have access ON EVERY SINGLE resource and most importantly Element! And let's not forget the Drill Strider if you have access to the dedi storage tek engram you can farm anything you want within minutes without the need to go back and forth emptying your creature. Also it's WAY bigger than Gen 2 and offers much more space to build
Opposite imo 1 aberration 2 genesis 3 island 4 scorched 5 extinction 6genesis 2 Customs 1 fjordur 2 lost island 3 valguero 4 crystal isles 5 ragnorok 6 center Overall 1 aberration 2 genesis 3 fjordur 4 lost island 5 tie for island and valguero 6 scorched 7 extinction 8 gen 2 9crystal 10 ragnorok 11 center
Just started, and had my save corrupt on The Island no fewer than ten times. After looking at every biome, I decided I hated it and been living the life on Valguero ever since. ☻
I love all the maps except gen1 only because it could of been much better but I do say the center and island are definitely for beginners and Abriation and extinction and gen 2 for experience players and good video can wait for your extinction gameplay and lost island keep up good work😃
I hate mini games. I think they should not exist in ark. It is a survival game. So i agree with you. As for the island .. i really hate the spawn there. ..looking for good stats is almost impossible especially when it comes to theri's and Youti's. But there is one thing on the island i wish it was there on every other map. That is the bosses. You cant get your tames and swipe the bosses in one go. You really have to work for each one of them. And finally you should use the teck armor and all the awesome teck stuff you learned to defeat the overseer unlike scorched earth or aberration , for example, you feel that you did all what you did just for nothing. One boss defeated.. that's it.
I hate gen 1 and gen 2 missions the mini games are fun for a little bit but if you want to beat the game all the way solo without cheating it is nearly impossible that being said its great for new dinos and drops gen 1 has that all tek zone witch let's you farm for tek Rex army
I never played genesis part 1 but played genesis part 2. At first I liked it because it has some cool creatures and it is a pretty cool map but then found that most of the missions are just plain boring and some are shit to do solo. That combined with a lack of caves to do made it pretty boring imo and I never finished it. So, I agree with your rating on gen 2 and based on the above, gen 1 as well.
RAG fan boy. its balanced and has that untold ancient story through the old temples and buildings around the map. but has some of the most annoying caves though,
So sadly I wanted to prove your first option wrong and ya gen 1 is not a place you should start anywhere you go is death the swamp is miserable lost half my tames in the volcano so yea stay away from there unless you have a full tribe with mounts that can tank anything if not you will die alot

it's a bit hard but the idea of it is so amazing how you live without any sign of sun
Wonderful video James. Really love your content and chill vibe. Ty for being you!
I actually liked the missions on genesis it gives a lil more content then just finding creatures taming them and breeding them on other maps cause that tend to make ark boring a stale. in fact I came back to ark just to play on genesis cause of the missions.
Another bonus to Genius 1; mod maps can have glowing flower forests and we can plant the flowers with Gen 1 Planters and Eco’s Highlands.
So quick question just a yes or no will you do a 100 days on aberration or not due to the time you need or will you do it? Also will you do it with your large tribe
yes it's been recorded and I'm working on it, not sure when it will be out
1. Genesis's missions do not have to be completed "10 timers per difficulty" -- just flat out wrong unless you were implying that because they're difficult and require retries?
2. Genesis 2's missions also do not require being playing "a minimum of 30 times"
3. I do agree that Crystal Isles is properly BARREN and empty, not a fan personally.
4. Glad ya put Scorched Earth high on the list. And they're putting a new cutscene in it in a couple months!
5. Aberration YEEESSSS!
6. Island's a good #1.
Ark Genesis part 1 is a severe demo that was thrown out with no real over thought.
Top 3
3. Aberration
2. Scorched eart
1. Ragnarock
The best maps in my opinion
Great video bossman!
I think aberration, the island, extinction and Ragnarok are all contenders for number 1 for me.
I never really got a feel for the island as I just find it a little vanilla and plain, The only maps I play regularly are SE and Rag as they both have things that can shift how you play, SE is probably my favourite as it has a great environment as well as challenges like weather and lack of shelter
Your videos are so chill. Lazypeon vibes!
He is adding frekvencies in the background. Manipulative thing to do
We needed this!
Yup n ur correct
I love rag and lost island for the diversity of biomes. So I’d tie those for 1st place in my books. Followed by scorched I’d say. Crystal isles is beautiful but as you said i find it very empty also
ive only played the island and the lost island i have 400 hrs ingME AND JUST LOVE THE GAME :)
idk if you will see this but they did say they are actually adding a scorched earth ending!!
Honestly I’ve grown to hate the island map because I can just never find any good level Dino’s
Center reminds me the Avatar Universe with its flying rocks in the sky...
Overall great list and I agree Fjordur might take top I loved the time I have had on it. My top three (excluding Fjordur) goes
1) lost island
2) Rag
3) OG island
Thanks James for the awesome content and can't wait for the lost island run.
same i am haveing fun as a pretty new player on island and it has been a blast!!!!
The islands my fav
But i wish there were wyverns
my personal list is....
1 - valguero & fjordur
2 - crystal isles
3 - lost island & the island
4 - ragnarok & the center
5 - genesis 2
6 - scorched earth
and the rest that i dont want to play in... genesis 1, aberration, extinction
Here’s my list
11 - Gen 1
10 - Gen 2
9 - The Center
8 - Crystal Isles
7 - The Island
6 - Extinction
5 - Valguero
4 - Scorched Earth
3 - Fjordur
2 - Extinction
1 - Aberration
Aberration was just such an amazing change, instead of flying safely above everything once you got your first ptero, there was more exploration, and danger when moving or adventuring, and the 3 different zones which offered new resources and new dangers was such an amazing idea, giving the player different levels to progress through and conquer, with the addition of the rock drake and reaper, and the great early game ravager, along with the roll rat, and the addition to the new Charge mechanic, everything about Aberration was just done so perfectly, from the new gear and weapons, to the new games and dangers!
Aberration will always be the best map in Ark in my opinion, with no other map even coming close
Ragnarok?
@@shawnsoh597 I just noticed I put 2 extinctions, the one in 6th is meant to be ragnorak
"Genesis 1 and 2 are the last maps I would play"
- in fairness I think that's how you're supposed to do it :p
I feel like they were designed around the idea of "concluding the storyline," and meant to be played at the end of a storyline run rather than as a beginning survivor.
For me rag is 1st hands down and I absolutely love Crystal isles as well.
Also love ragnarok and lost island but I dislike the center and gen 2
my favourite has got to be ragnarok, cause like the highlands are so peacful, despite the ocasional giga spawn and the wyverns
Genesis 1 is my favourite map…
What about extinction?
7:11
if you want be rich and optimized , GEN2 and Aberration are very important
the "olympus" map is an unfinished mod map that I think really has the potential to become a free dlc map
Olympus is an awesome map
Lost island has everything so that’s my favorite
i Strongly Disagree about Gen Part 2.
Love your videos
My top 3
1the island
2extintion
3aberretion
Ark are like fast food chains, no matter how you are treated you wil come back.
Gen 1 & 2 I can kind of agree, but they are the only maps driving the real story of ark.
my own 2 cents is this, so far of what ive played scorched earth is alot friendlier to solo players
good list
Opposite imo
1 aberration
2 genesis
3 island
4 scorched
5 extinction
6genesis 2
Customs
1 fjordur
2 lost island
3 valguero
4 crystal isles
5 ragnorok
6 center
Overall
1 aberration
2 genesis
3 fjordur
4 lost island
5 tie for island and valguero
6 scorched
7 extinction
8 gen 2
9crystal
10 ragnorok
11 center
Ark ascended is gonna be soooooo goood
I love the center and fjordur most.
But i guess its because i love LOTR
Ragnorok is can be a beginner map too.
Just started, and had my save corrupt on The Island no fewer than ten times. After looking at every biome, I decided I hated it and been living the life on Valguero ever since. ☻
I love all the maps except gen1 only because it could of been much better but I do say the center and island are definitely for beginners and Abriation and extinction and gen 2 for experience players and good video can wait for your extinction gameplay and lost island keep up good work😃
Extinction is my fav idk i just like being on earth but abberation was also cool but very confusing
One boss defeated.. that's it.
My favorites are the island, aberration and genesis 1
Gen 2 missions are 10 times better than gen 1’s
Tech spoiled Ark IMHO.
Am i the only one who love just smack hella of bugs
RAG fan boy. its balanced and has that untold ancient story through the old temples and buildings around the map. but has some of the most annoying caves though,
you forgot fjordur
Scorched earth best map two lost island 3 flojdur
Ark is my happy place
abberation defiantly isnt underrated everyone talks about that map constantly
Currently loving aberration 🤷
I though gen 2 would be down at the bottom.
So sadly I wanted to prove your first option wrong and ya gen 1 is not a place you should start anywhere you go is death the swamp is miserable lost half my tames in the volcano so yea stay away from there unless you have a full tribe with mounts that can tank anything if not you will die alot
Thanks for sharing with us your opinion about ARK's maps. They are all very inspiring for me! Bye
I personally rank Fjordur 1, The Island 2, Ragnarok 3, Abberation 4, Lost Island 5, Center 6, Scorched Earth 7, Valguaro 8, Crystal Isles 9, Extinction 10, Both Genesis equally actual trash garbage.
Dam so it don’t get better than the island 😂
I came here to get pissed at everyone who hates abberation, but I’m walking away from the video with a smile.
