Hard for people to figure out it was you as well, especially if you don't kill them. You don't get notifications on who attacked you, only on who killed you. Melee also deals more torpor with weapons and weapon damages from non-gunpowder ranged weapons. It's dumb not to. You also failed to mention fortitude lowers food/water usage rates.
For PVP having fast movement, high melee, and lowhp with fortitude pumped. This allows you to fill an assassin like role. Preferably one tribal member per 5 setups uses this but can be fierce. You almost can't be "captured" as you die easier than being put to sleep most of the time. If they try to sleep you generally you sleep them first or die. It also allows you to enter exit battle/cover. And ultimately as a solo you can avoid combat better as well as bandit people gathering quickly. You can easily survive for longer periods of time "camping/stalking" teams of players.
Really late to this vid but it showed up on my feed. Really well done video. You make it super easy to follow and understand. I agree with most things you said. I will say that I am purely a PVE player but I play with PVP settings cause PVE settings suck. Health I'm in total agreement. It's something I don't really focus on till much later. Early game if you can't outrun something your dead regardless of health cause your equipment is so bad, might as well go with other stats. Later on I bring that level up though cause artifact runs do be nasty. Stamina I do early on to an extent. I go to 150 just because I find 100 isn't enough to get you out of a lot of dangers and early game your on foot. But utimately later you use dinos so its not that important. Food and water are completely a waste. I mean if your really struggling on say scorched earth at the beginning you could lv water but that's literally the only instance I can see it useful. Oxygen also mostly useless considering you won't get far without a dino or scuba gear anyway. Weight is the holy grail of attributes. I put tons in weight. Even if you are using dinos to do the heavy lifting you still need weight yourself to move stuff from the dinos to crafting stations unless using mods. Speed is good to an extent. Obviously PVP it's very important but as a PVE player I only put like 12 levels into it. That's enough to outrun most things you need to. Fortitude I always forget that it also helps prevent disease. But personally thats not that important to me because if I'm going caving I'm taking antitode regardless of fortitude level as fortitude won't guarantee your safe anyway. I am thinking of pumping some levels into it now cause the torpor is definitely an issue when dealing with caves. As far as the temperature I haven't found it really important though. I haven't played all the maps but Ragnarok is the only one I've found temperature is a real issue. Pretty much otherwise standard fur or ghillie will do fine without pumping anything into fortitude. And I've experimented with fortidue and it's just not worth it if your goal is for temperature. You can pump 40 levels into it and that would be like equivalent to 1 or 2 pieces of the standard fur. So I don't think fortitude is as important as you say at least for PVE. Melee again as a PVE player I completely agree that it's just a waste to put points there. Your dinos are gonna do the harvesting and damaging anyways and you almost always use ranged weapons which it doesn't effect. So normally I don't put anything into melee. However, melee does effect how much resources you collect. You can test this on a resource that will only take one hit do destroy, and as you increase your melee you will get increasing amounts from that one hit with variation as there is some randomization. This is because resources harvested and XP gained are both scaled with damage output. That said it's still not worth while as it's hardly noticibe with the small amount lvs increase melee. For dinos it's extremely import for harvesting though especially if you for example your harvesting element shards on crystal Iles. With any old anky you might get 7 shards pee crystal but if you have a 1000% melee anky your gonna get like 25 shards (dependent on server harvest rates of course). With that in mind it's also good to note that if you were to pump levels into melee you would level faster as you would gather a larger amount of resources and faster, same with combat if you so chose to use a melee weapon.
for pvp i usually first go for speed until 150 then i pump health to 200 then stam to 200 and the rest into weight. having a high weight allows you to kit other players and weight grapple their dinos whenever necessary.
@@dayday4502 it works for both! in can help annoying situations like when you are moving heavy resources and need to get places. there’s also having tek leggings to be able to walk while encumbered but not everyone has the luxury. i personally have no problem with my build so i recommend it.
Sounds good. I am not pro at ark but I always played unofficial. At the end you can have dinos to help with the weight but as for me seems really nice if the character have lots of weight also because sometimes enemy can have LOTS of stuff. I do guess its depends on the player to. Someone can be special forces sneaky or other things haha.
@@deathwing7uwu189 a) "lvl 100+" doesn't mean much. A reasonable tame will start at 100-120 so you get it as a 150-180 and the first 20 levels or so are quick. So - is that Rex leveled? And how much points did you have to put in MD% to get there? b) Even if you hit harder than a Rex, would you still go unmounted for the most part? Because if you don't, the MD doesn't matter and if you do, you need MS as well. c) Your response completely misses my point. The argument in the video was: "don't go MD, cause dinos". I said "don't go MS, cause dinos". You adressed the argument in the video, not my own.
@@DrZaius3141 it’s an unleveled tamed Rex, only reason it’s only level 100 ish is cuz I’m on an official server and I’ve never found above level 140 dinos. Most of those are alphas tho. Though not putting points into melee or speed is dumb with the dinos arguement, you’re right there. Cuz if you aren’t fast enough to even get to your Dino or hit hard enough to maybe knock back or scare away something then there isn’t a point in having the dino
I never put point on melee because shotgun act like a melee weapons and powercreep them. Movement speed in the other hand is needed because you won't always have your dino, you can survive when bad things happen to your dino or when the enemy dismount you
The extra damage will probably be inflicted, but the torpor won't be reduced. So if the Dino is not like a level 1 then it will probs live and get KO'd
My sp character has 130 speed, since I am alone and I don't want to risk dying and loosing my stuff if I get surprised by a hungry dino. I just want to be sure I can outrun anything. My weight is 300, health 250, fortitude 18, oxygen was 200 cause I was doing a lot of underwater building but l will restat when I'm done.
From most PvP videos I've watched, the consensus seems to be 300-350hp, 100-150stam, 400+weight, 150-188speed, 40-50fortitude. PvP players and their builds seem to be best for playing fast and efficient. Faster speeds and high fort allow them to navigate the map safely and quickly.
My favorite stats to pump points into are weight, health, speed, fortitude, and a little bit of oxygen & crafting skill. Weight and health were my default before I really knew how to play the game. Now I really try to go for weight and speed. Health is good too, but I don't need as much health if I can just leave all the dangers in the dust. On maps where I may be in the water often, I'll put a few points into oxygen so I can swim faster and stay under longer. I do some fortitude so I can survive extreme weather, and a little bit of crafting skill (I just like how fast it lets me craft tbh lol). I never noticed anything helpful with melee so I just don't use it. I never do anything with food, water nor stamina. I started playing with my sister and she has all 3 on 0 so you never get either. Personally I like the challenge of food and water, but I keep stamina at 0 as I have no patience/a short attention span.
helath- stamina-enrgy usage(good to pump points into) oxygen-increases oxygen levels(increase faster swiming) food&water-absolutely nothing weight-important for early game and late game mele dmg-absolutely nothing(except in pvp) movement speed-yes put points then together with decent stamina you can run away from dinos(important) crafting skill-??? higher dmg on weapons as @sunnyfields1845 points out fortitude-yes put points into that as well(can resist environment, diesease, dont have to eat or drink often) so ideal build - put points into weight -put into movement speed -put into fortitude -put into stamina
Nice video James I like the style of this video don’t know if this is a good idea I but I think that you should do a version of this but with the dinos but only the important ones so your not naming out every single Dino in the game

I mean you still have to fight dinos in pve, you kill those dinos faster/easier with a high melee than you do a shotgun. Seems like its pretty important pvp or pve
When you increase food the food you eat will heal your hit points more. Or rather, you can eat several pieces of jerky and restore a bunch of hit points.
I use health weight and strength as my go to. If melee does damage to dinos by weapons or fist to me it's useful and health is important as well the other important stat is fortitude I lvl up as well. 4 stats I lvl up. I mean I wonder how many punches it takes to kill a dilo by lvlin up the melee damage?
i'm brand new to this game, I can see all the points your making here and i feel confident in following this guide but you did pass up thoroughly explaining the crafting skill, what does one get with a high crafting skill and am I right to assume those benefits aren't strictly necessary?
Higher crafting skill = faster crafting. This goes for items created in your inventory only. However, it also increases custom recipe effectiveness. You'll have to look up "custom recipes ark" on Google for specifics... there's a lot to that.
@@esluh yer as sean says there, and I use crafting skill only when I do a mind wipe and do a day of crafting as it's much more beneficial to have all points in crafting skill when doing lots of crafting as opposed to a few points. The amount of bonus points added to a crafted item is random each time you craft something, but the more points you have the better your chances you have to increases the bonus effect. I.E a high tire saddle may get crafted 6 times but each will have a different amount of extra points so it's a roll of the dice thing. As well as the amount of time it takes to craft. My advice is to use crafting skill when doing a mind wipe or perhaps when you have ascended 1 or to maps and feel that all other traits have been pumped enough, like after ascending aberration and the island you may feel pumping a couple of points in crafting skill is not a waste of time as completing them maps would give you an extra 30 points to spend if you completed the on alpha.
I always thought crafting skill should have applied to crafting picks and hatchets thing like that, maybe craft my own apprentice crossbow without the blueprint but just because my skill is high
Movement speed enough health to survive a hit from something fast (200-300) and stamina to go longer and enough weight to wear flak is truly all you need. Movement speed is my favorite considering I play pvp. Nothing funnier than running circles around someone in flak with a gun with no movement and going naked except a shield, bolas, and a club and then them trying to shoot you as you run around them and knock them out and take their gear. XD
I only play sp PvE ,my first points go into speed ( to around 15-16 ) and stam just so I can outrun raptors then its weight and health, also fort in the later and yes the otter great shoulder pet keeps your temps level but also can hold artifacts which are great when in some of those artifact caves you can wait around not be affected but the heat or cold and keep grabbing artifacts as they respawn. if I am doing a speed run, testing myself then It is more like o2 and stam so that I can do underwater caves but it has been a long while since I have done a personal speed run using the official speed run settings
Of course if you have a monkey pet, a player built towards melee and kiting is gonna have a hard time closeing the distance. I argue the monkey shoulder pet is far superior to melee damage. Further more if you take the same points they put in melee and split them between hp and speed, you can kite and shoot them and they'll never catch you.
I pretty mucy exclusively play PvE. I usually focus movement speed, stamina, and carry weight. Nothing ever hits me because of how fast I am, so I put the points I would otherwise put in health into fortitude, so negative weather effects as minimized. Imo, movement speed increases your survivability on foot vastly more than anything else does, though health is better for caves if you aren't bringing tames in with you
melee is def worth, if you have 300% melee and a 300% damage sword you're gonna do 900% damage 100% worth because if you get stuck or pined you're gonna do way more damage with a sword on a dino then a shotgun would you would need a 900% shotgun to do even close the damage
Honestly you should still put points into oxygen and fortitude. Ever been knocked out in water and drowned? Not killed but just knocked out and drowned. Oxygen 310 will ensure that likely will never happen and fortitude will help you not lose health in super hot or super cold environments
I only play single player and personally I like to bump the carry weight multiplier up so I only have to put in 2-4 points. I hate the weight system in ark when your trying to move and organize materials in your base. To balance out the absurd weight lenience I upped the resistance of wild Dino’s. It stops you from just doing resource runs on foot and there for your limited by your mounts weight. I find this to be the best way to enjoy the game. It also allows you to put points into crafting skill so you don’t have to mind wipe. Unfortunate it’s not that way in official but I can respect the hard grind.

I get what your saying about melee PvE but. Have you considered how useful it is on Abberation. High dmg chainsaw on abb is great and melee dmg helps out. Nameless, chainsaw, Ravager, Chainsaw, karkinos, chainsaw, reaper, ... run
I pumped a decent amount of melee just in case a Kaprosuchus would grab me better yet any dino grab me, then at least I'll have a decent amount of damage input against whatever grabbed me with my trusty pike
New players farming levels should pump fortitude exclusively until they can make a fabricator, while doing so mass tame a bunch of paras and lystros using stimberrys, take those tames at night to sw/w island and tame all the trodons one can find. If done correctly while collecting notes one easily gets to 60-70, has a crap load of trodons. Best strategy to introduce one to the game, acquires rather hard tames early, metal tier, and can survive griefing

Melee also deals more torpor with weapons and weapon damages from non-gunpowder ranged weapons. It's dumb not to. You also failed to mention fortitude lowers food/water usage rates.
It does not affect crossbows or bows.
The wiki and Reddit people agree.
No idea where you get that non gunpowder thing from.
1:12 not only those consumeables will heal. Eating berries or other foods will slowly help you to regenerate over time.
You will only heal with consumables if your food is low. If your food is maxed no healing will occur. Hence why blood packs & med brews are better
Honestly one of the best speakers I heard for games!
Great tips vid, and that longneck bp tho!
Glad you enjoyed! and yer that was a top bp.
From more helpful guides on ark survival evolved check out my advanced tips ua-cam.com/video/9AqRRAwQBgI/v-deo.html
I saw a ark tutorial were they put all their points into weight but didn't explain why, now I know thx👍
Knew fortitude shouldn’t be ignored, but always ignored it anyway...... lesson learned cheers
I kinda feel the same way about melee, you can just have tames for damage, even in pvp
i only put 4 points in melee
I have added to melee as a way to reduce the number of times I need to repair tools when gathering resources.
That makes sense. Personally the way I see it, if I mine stuff in less hits, I am gathering faster and that adds up.
I say most stats are worth adding atleast five points.
Started playing Ark last week. Health, Stamina, Oxygen, and Weight were my priority for PvE.
What I was hoping for is for you to show us how many point we need to put in every category
for pvp i usually first go for speed until 150 then i pump health to 200 then stam to 200 and the rest into weight. having a high weight allows you to kit other players and weight grapple their dinos whenever necessary.
I’m new to the game, would this also work for a pvp/pve? Or is this just full pvp.
I feel that the "don't put points in meelee, you got dinos for that" argument also works for movement speed.
I do more damage than a lvl 100+ Rex at level 70 with a sword
Movement speed in the other hand is needed because you won't always have your dino, you can survive when bad things happen to your dino or when the enemy dismount you
I think at this point, I just play your videos to relax lmao.. these are great, and your voice... 👌🏼
Weight Movespeed health and a lil stam and 1 point in fort is all you need
stack movement to 136% you can outrun most carnivores helps a tonne
how much points does it take to get 40 forti
@@ultima35e base game fortitude is 2 per point, so 20 points.
136% is too slow you will need to be at 160-200% to outrun everything in the entire game.
I found an ascendant crossbow. Does the extra damage stat affect tranq arrows torpor rate, or will I just be killing things I want to tame?
The extra damage will probably be inflicted, but the torpor won't be reduced. So if the Dino is not like a level 1 then it will probs live and get KO'd
@@schezuanoddball3069
OK thanks..i will try it.
Will increase torpor dmg if I recall correctly
The only way to raise the torpor rate is a better damage on the weapon. The player stats dosnt affect range weapons.
I always put points on milidamage until i reach 200% and than i do Health and weight
Melee*
My sp character has 130 speed, since I am alone and I don't want to risk dying and loosing my stuff if I get surprised by a hungry dino. I just want to be sure I can outrun anything. My weight is 300, health 250, fortitude 18, oxygen was 200 cause I was doing a lot of underwater building but l will restat when I'm done.
I also have 130 speed and i found out today that it isn't enough to out run baryonyx 😢
Here's mine for PvE:
Health: 700
Stamina: 300
Oxygen: 1000
Food: 100
Water: 100
Weight: 3200
Melee: 213%
Movement Speed: 118%
Crafting Skill: 100
Fortitude: 200
5:05 or in other words doesn’t matter when u increase harvest drops in settings
This was very helpful I am a hard-core pvp player and I wanted to get my stats right because they where always a little broken
Now this a good channel for Ark tutorials, not like that clickbaity OutKast’s channel
Top 3 attributes to pump ur points into is speed, stamina, and weight. Weight being your highest priority
How much do you recommend?
Really liking your complete the ark series. When are you going to realease the next video?
Me too! I am brand new to the game and it has really helped me learn the game. Working up to continuing with the tasks in episode 3. Thank you!
im working on it but they always take me a little time, next video will be a complete ark 1
Another great video James! I really enjoy your channel
Glad you enjoy it! and I really appreciate the kind words
helath-
stamina-enrgy usage(good to pump points into)
oxygen-increases oxygen levels(increase faster swiming)
food&water-absolutely nothing
weight-important for early game and late game
mele dmg-absolutely nothing(except in pvp)
movement speed-yes put points then together with decent stamina you can run away from dinos(important)
crafting skill-??? higher dmg on weapons as @sunnyfields1845 points out
fortitude-yes put points into that as well(can resist environment, diesease, dont have to eat or drink often)
so ideal build - put points into weight
-put into movement speed
-put into fortitude
-put into stamina
Nice video James I like the style of this video don’t know if this is a good idea I but I think that you should do a version of this but with the dinos but only the important ones so your not naming out every single Dino in the game
Going to do a mind wipe, farely new. Super good to know. Thanks!
Glad to help!
@@CompleteGamesWithJames what does a mind wipe do and how do you do it?
@@zattack5757 mind wipe resets all these attributes, gives yo all your points back too. You make it in a cooking pot. Just search on google what the recipe is as I don't remember it
@@isdirtdirty8238 ok
I start out with health weight and movement speed for survival purposes. Even though I’m on PVE the melee damage that I can do has saved my life and my tames plenty of times. Ark is unpredictable and sometimes you will get attacked while harvesting resources, especially early on when you don’t have decent tames to protect you
never get why i watch these videos when all you need is 300-350 hp, 2 fortitude, around 160-170 speed and 800+ weight
True lol. I’d put a few more points into health thougu
Would you not recommend putting points into melee?
@@DeadSilence-pt2hr you can but then you would need to go full melee char with 500+ melee and you dont have a lot of weight and speed and like 250 hp... so for fun sure or if you are guts
@iiDimitriThyRebornYT UA-cam can only have those stats on unofficial...
Always good to check this stuff out been playing along time, but still picked up a few good gems. 👍🏼🖖🏼👊🏼
New video needed, I'm learning brand new just downloaded
Movement speed is good you can out run Rex or become rex food
I just found the game this week and I pumped my speed to about 150%, that's been a huge lifesaver for me on many occasions...Buuuut as I'm a total noob, everything is crazy scary and despite being lv 85 I'm still only using flak armour and a crossbow...
You're trapped now, say your goodbyes!
Join a tribe, mate. It's fun!
@@Solutho Aaaaaahhh I'm too scared to join a server...I've been watching the pvp and it's insane...I'm coming up fast on 50, my reflexes can't do that shit anymore :P
Oh don't be, man! If you can contribute with enough daily hours most tribes will take you in.
Just don't join a tribe with 13 year olds, it gets annoying so fast
@@Solutho I don't have the hours to put in to make a proper contribution at this time, but I'll deffo take a look at some pve servers just for the heck of it...If nothing else, it'll let my kids finally try out creative mode in single player...They've been begging for a chance to start building things...
@@Kasperring omg same im scared in ark idk why
Yeah great video and all, as always James!!! :) but you didn't address the fact that you recorded some of this on The Center !!?
just needed a fresh player, not going to be starting anything new on the center
I mean you still have to fight dinos in pve, you kill those dinos faster/easier with a high melee than you do a shotgun. Seems like its pretty important pvp or pve
You need few points in speed mainly to out run few of dinos at start until your able to craft bolas at least
you're*
When you increase food the food you eat will heal your hit points more. Or rather, you can eat several pieces of jerky and restore a bunch of hit points.
5:22 Bro, u didn't even equip the better pickaxe...
I'm playing pve and honestly use my axe as a weapon a lot. True guns are better but some creatures are too small or fast close up for guns
Are u gay
Umm, you do know pikes and swords exist right?
@@nicholausstevens1262 yeah but it's extra weight and I like carrying less items
Thanks, I was wondering how much fortitude I should level up :).
Great video, I have been in joying your content. Thanks
Awesome, thank you!
I use health weight and strength as my go to. If melee does damage to dinos by weapons or fist to me it's useful and health is important as well the other important stat is fortitude I lvl up as well. 4 stats I lvl up. I mean I wonder how many punches it takes to kill a dilo by lvlin up the melee damage?
i'm brand new to this game, I can see all the points your making here and i feel confident in following this guide
but you did pass up thoroughly explaining the crafting skill, what does one get with a high crafting skill and am I right to assume those benefits aren't strictly necessary?
@@marshallbeck9101 I wish this was the case Bc then you could make better primitive gear until you’ve found a better BP.
@@CompleteGamesWithJames one or two*
Movement speed enough health to survive a hit from something fast (200-300) and stamina to go longer and enough weight to wear flak is truly all you need.
Movement speed is my favorite considering I play pvp. Nothing funnier than running circles around someone in flak with a gun with no movement and going naked except a shield, bolas, and a club and then them trying to shoot you as you run around them and knock them out and take their gear. XD
The outro music has no business being that good
Was the melee stat changed? I noticed my 2k damage rex gets more meat total versus my 600 damage rex
*Puts everything into Weight: do you even lift, bro 💪🧐🤳
Lmaoo same
Any game with over encumbrance that I play, I pump my carry weight up as high as I can.
Great video 👍 I may have to change my stats around a bit
Go for it! thanks shiny :)
Question: When you mention points, does that mean the value of the stats itself, or the number of times the stats get upgraded?
I'm pretty certain he means the number of times the stat gets upgraded
Weight needs a boost or they should add a weight recipe in game.
Dat silky voice tho
Can anyone tell me the exact number of points that you put in each stat in a single-player scenario pls???
God I loved that reference of that comedian I forgot his name but I know he played Bruce almighty
Honestly you should still put points into oxygen and fortitude. Ever been knocked out in water and drowned? Not killed but just knocked out and drowned. Oxygen 310 will ensure that likely will never happen and fortitude will help you not lose health in super hot or super cold environments
I’ve been thinking to main health, crafting, movement speed, weight, stamina, breathe?.
If you play ever decide to play on official, Tek pants will help you a lot in that situation.
I like using melee over guns. I play only PVE though. Pike all day. I don't like the sword. Sometimes it doesn't swing.
And has anyone noticed that you can see the battle arena in the sky on the island?

New players farming levels should pump fortitude exclusively until they can make a fabricator, while doing so mass tame a bunch of paras and lystros using stimberrys, take those tames at night to sw/w island and tame all the trodons one can find.
If done correctly while collecting notes one easily gets to 60-70, has a crap load of trodons.
Best strategy to introduce one to the game, acquires rather hard tames early, metal tier, and can survive griefing
