I wish the owner were still around, I believe whoever ran this channel died at the same time the new videos stopped being posted :( Basic work was done on the stack, the piano had new strings put on it I believe at least 5 years before this video was filmed.
There are complicated ways to get a motor into a pianola but you can also drill a hole into one of the bellows and stick a vacuum hose into the bellow for suction. You'll only need half the vacuum's power to run the player action.
It is old technology. Look up "Player Piano" at Wikipedia. This one uses pneumatics (vacuum). I use the electric vacuum pump for my videos, but it also has foot pedals that work well. Do a search for "Player Piano" here at UA-cam...1000s of videos.
@@miligatz I wanted to ask if this is an expression piano because I saw all the extra holes in the tracker bar. It almost looks like a bar from a DuoArt system but it has the normal crank box of a standard action.
I have one that goes over 10 minutes. I'm sure there are some that go longer. However, the longer the roll of paper, the more the paper slips on itself causing hesitation.
A player piano is meant to play itself, that was the primary reason for creating the system, if you want expression then that's what reproducing pianos are for. Not everyone is a pianolist.
I really love pianola. I'm shocked what it has inside but it's wonderful.
Thank you for demonstrating QRS Rolls. The arrangements are wonderful.
Absolutely wonderful
It's amazing how people could create something like this.
Nice-sounding piano! Thanks for posting!
This sounds very much like my 1921 Steif player. Very rich sound
Das klavier ist zu schön und die musik ist schön.👍🎹😀
Thanks.
An der schönen blauen Donau - Johann Strauss
Sounds like it needs around 3-5 tunings after its restrung and rebuilt correctly!

Did the pianola come with a motor when you got it or did you put it in because I want to put a motor in my pianola and I'm not sure where to start.

I have seen a few listings on Craigslist from people wanting to give them away. I think there is some company that still makes the rolls for them.
QRS makes rolls and there's a bunch of small companies also making new ones.
How this thing works? It must be a very sophisticated machine.
There will be few in the world.

What was the maximum length of time you could get one of those rolls to play for?

this is why one shouldn't put suction units in player piano's........ Classic example of going against all the player piano is supposed to be.
