Don't forget that this song was created to honor Buddy Holly, Richie Vallens and The Big Bopper...who were tragically lost in a plane crash together. I can only imagine what it was like for their fans to lose three of their favorite rock stars in one day! The closest that I came to that was when Ricky Nelson and his wonderful band perished in the 1980s in a plane crash, as well. Some of their performances can be seen on the music show, Solid Gold. Maybe you can find them on UA-cam.
