    Hi Melissa, thank you for inspiring me to repot my FLF today. 😚 We definitely can't feel the spring vibes here in the Bay Area yet, but the soil is so sandy and compacted that I feel my ficus can't wait anymore... she will be angry for sure, but she has been mad at me since October when I brought her inside, so it's worth a try! 😝💚

    Hey, Melissa,
    My ficus has some roots coming out of the pot, so I think it is time to repot, but I've never done it before, so I'm a little scared.
    I've seen some repotting videos, and people usually loose all the soil they can. Is that necessary, or can I do it like you did in the video (loose a little bit, but mantain most of the old soil)?
    Thanks!

    Hi Melissa!
    My mom hasn't repotted, changed soil on her Ficus Elastica Robusta in over 15 years... It is not dying at all but I wouldn't say it's super happy (curled leaves, smaller leaves, falling leaves), but on the other hand, I am so scared that repoting/upsizing after so long will shock the plant and kill it.
    Do you have some advices on repoting a ficus that has been for so long in the same pot/soil?
    Thanks for your videos. ❤️

    I have one currently a Robusta I believe. When it arrived it appeared it was crammed into a really tiny pot so I upsized. Since one leaf turned black and so I removed it and on other leaf just fell off. I'm not sure if it needs more water or sun as the lower leaf is drooping. I've put it under a grow light, which I may do for a few hours at a time per day, as it's winter still and there's not much sun coming in.

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  Рік тому

      it could be some shock from the repotting but if the soil is wet and you're getting black it could be some root rot going on. A few hours isn't enough light for these guys though they need a lot more light!

    I have noticed that root ball of tineke was not teased nor the oil soil wasn't removed, may I know why was that,? I am planning to repot my Neon pothos since it's hot here though it's already autumn. Thank u. U have beautiful plants.
    Also, I'm planning to buy peppermint soap. May I ask if ur mixture could be used by only spraying and not wiping the leaves 😅 coz when winter I just purchased the commercially mixed spray Neem oil and it took me so long to wipe every single leaf😅, I just sprayed and it was just fine, but during summer I showered it, leaves were just fine. Now it is getting autumn and winter, I'll be back on wiping majority of my plants so thinking to use ur mixture but no wiping, haha seems I'm kinda lazy

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  Рік тому +1

      I don't use a certain amount to mix with just a few drops in some water and I mix it together :) I need to do a lot better with wiping my leaves more often! I didn't want to stress the ficus! I just wanted to upsize it since I was going to put it outside so it wouldn't dry soo fast out there 🙏

    Seriously, ant bait only where they come into your house, or room. Don’t attract them further in your room.

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  Рік тому +1

      The plant was in the window at the same time with all the others when I first noticed them. I'm not attracting them into my home. The ficus was isolated. I have had a lot going on these past couple weeks with luna and am slowly repotting the plants that were in the window. I'm not surprised if more plants have ants because a lot had come in.

    Only put aunt bait where the ants come in your plant room. What you’re doing by putting ant bait anywhere else encourages the aunts to come farther into your room leaving a trail for other ants to find the bait. This is from my sisters “ant man” Bait only goes where you see them come into your house. Then they only come in that far and return to the nest leaving a trail from the ant bait and back to the nest.

  • @lisaanglim9588
    @lisaanglim9588 Рік тому

    I don’t understand why you think the ants would go in the soil. You don’t see them crawling in the soil. They have a nest with eggs to take care of. They just came from the sap.

    I have a Fiddle and an Audrey, my Fiddle lost 90% of its leaves after a repot to remove the death plug and my Audrey is doing fine. It took about 5-6 months for it to push its first leaf after I purchased it and it lost quite a few in the acclimation process, but its doing very well. I love Ficus, but they're definitely too much work! 🥲

    🎍Ficus challenged here!!🎍🪴Do you prefer plastic nursery pots? Is there anytime you recommend clay pots , ceramic or other type of material? I've started using the nursery pots since I've seen you use them so much. 🪴

      I love plastic pots! I used to use more terracotta but I pretty much have switched over. The only plants I keep in terracotta now are snake plants and succulents. It dries too quickly for me! I don't pot in ceramic either since it holds onto a lot more water 🤗
