I keep mine in a west facing window. I water when she is dry and wipe the leaves at least every 2 weeks (or put it in the shower). I just started getting new growth after months of owning (2 new leaves in winter too). I started fertilizing when I noticed new growth. Never lost any leaves yet (knock on wood). It's a gorgeous plant. Definitely a favourite atm.
I'm so envious of all your winter sun! Here near Seattle, we're lucky to get one sunny day a week. I'm supplementing with lots of grow lights, but they're nothing compared to direct sunlight. My ficus are doing OK, but not nearly as much growth as yours. Love your little Tineke forest in a pot.
We have cold winters and hot summers....I am definitely appreciative of the sunlight and figure it is a trade off for the winter cold. We are one of the sunniest places in all of Canada.
Beautiful Tineke. I have never seen one so lush, then realized that there are several plants in there. Just beautiful and so happy. I have a ficus elastica Ruby, one plant and she just opened a new leaf and another is coming quickly. I just love the patterned leaves and colors.🥰
I was wondering about the fullness, too, and whether it was a result of multiple plants or notching. Thanks for the confirmation. Going to try those methods for lush plants.
I have a small one that I hope to make bushy and grow it large one day. My ficus Benjamina is right by my back door too and it does fine. I’ve had it for over 13 years. It’s my favourite common plant and it’s around 6 feet tall ( I trim to contain it lol) Please don’t stop adding the dog cameo’s ❤️
Great info. Love seeing your dogs in the video. My two are always by my side around the house as well. My Tineke I’ve named “Tiny” since he’s only a few inches tall - but he’s putting out a new leaf!!
Mine is actually in a north facing window and is perfectly happy. Granted, it's only about 18" from the window. I'm growing mine like a single stem tree. I don't fertilize yet, but I potted it about 6 months ago, and I had worm castings in the mix. It's spits out new leaves one right after the other. It's one of my favorites and actually won a blue ribbon at the county fair. 🙂
@@EverythingPlants Either that, or it's just like acclimating to stronger light. My tineke is just used to it. All of my plants are used to it in fact. Most of my windows are on the north side.
Beautiful Tineke. I’d like to get one if I come across one that’s a nice size like yours. I hate wasting fertilizer too. I started recycling the water by catching it in a container and using it on the next plant in a different container. Back and forth for all the plants I’m watering. Thanks Jeff!
I had to repot all three of my ficus elastica one week into November because they really needed it. This made me nervous being this time of year, but they were still growing and have since grown even more. The roots look like I didn’t just repot them 6 weeks ago!! They’ll definitely need it again by spring but that’s a good problem to have!! Cheers!

Great video! I noticed mine was starting to produce all white leaves so I moved it back from the window. Hopefully this should encourage more green in the leaves?
I've never had this issue....I know the all or most white leaves need lots of light or they will brown over time. At some point you may need to prune it to get rid of them 🤷♂️

Can you propagate and replant in the same pot as the existing plant without putting in water i.e. cut off a stem and plant it straight back into the same pot?
I've never soil propagated a ficus elastica directly into soil, but it is possible. If you do then I would recommend potting it in a separate pot to start with. You will probably need to keep the prop cutting well watered to entice those roots and if it was in the same pot as the mother plant most likely it wouldn't tolerate being in wet soil before it gets root rot. One needs to stay most while the mother plant likes to dry out completely. I think you chance of success would be very low
I bought it as a full plant, but obviously smaller. It has been in that same spot since I bought it....water when dry, fertilize occasionally and let the sun do the rest.
Hey Madison! The watering amount and frequency depends on a lot of factors like pot size, amount of light, soil and etc. This large one I let get bone dry for about a week then I soak it under it comes out the drain hole and don't water again until its dry for a week. Some people might water more often then this, but for me it usually works out to be maybe 2 weeks between watering....approx. Don't let it get too dry to where the leaves feel thin or fragile....avoid that LOL Does this help? And again if you have it in a small pot or in a really heat location you may be watering every week or even a few days. When I have taken my jade plants outside in the summer, with the heat and light, they may need water every couple days. When I have them inside they get watered approx every 2 weeks in the summer and like once a month in the winter....
My ficus tineke has developed brown curled leaf edges. Is that a sign of too much water or light? The plant had been in the garage next to a lowlight window and repotted and moved to a southwest window, about 4 -5 feet from the window.
I really love your Ficus Tineke this one definitely my favourite the variegations. Mine i only had it a year and so far doing well and half the size of your one not that tall yet. My first winter with this plant i did lose some bottom leaves i was told it can be normal and bottom leaves for some reason not as firm and sturdy there more delicate and not much variegations. I think maybe is normal too. I notice rubber plants they can have that crystalline bead looking on the leaves does that got to do with the water you give them?
My ficus tineke was doing well, three branches, very full, beautiful. All of a sudden it just stopped growing - new leaves appeared on each branch but they wouldn't unfurl. I moved it a bit closer to the window, south facing, but still not indirect sun. It started dropping in tact, great looking leaves, a few at a time & always at night. Tried to propagate, it failed. Now all the leaves are gone, except one but it's hanging & shriveled. even though I increased the light again. & made sure it wasn't getting too much or too little water. I thought I was doing everything right & for awhile it was thriving. Can it still be saved? If so, how? Even if not, what do you think happened? I have not given up on this variety but don't want this to happen again

This plant is a bit fussy when the soil stays wet or retains moisture for too long. Most likely those spots are due to a watering issue. Make sure it has a good well draining soil. I don't overwater my tineke and it's by my south window but not too close. The state of my plant is that the stem is leaning over, dried brown spots on the edges of the leaves, drooping and dried leaves. Please help I don't know what's wrong with it. Thanks! 🙏🙌💜
I had to tie mine together as the tineke was leaning as well. You can add a temporary support stake to help prop it up. As for the leaves....I currently have a leaf the has brown spots on it. It is one of the lower leaves on the stem. I'm not concerned about those ones dropping.
I love ficus elastica and a few days ago i got some cuttings from my neighbor's huge tree and i am propagating them in water. All my windows i can use them for plants are north facing without sun, literally. Can i use led lights so my elastica would thrive after the roots develop?
Absolutely! Although I do not have any experience with this particular plant and grow lights, I do have one of my sun loving Jade plants under a grow light and it is doing great!

Can anyone help me out with a question please? I’ve had a bud /new leaf right at the top of my plant but it’s not unfurling. Is there something I’ve done wrong or what could I do to make it good?
It ends up being around two weeks or so for the large ones. My smaller pots tend to need water more often than the larger pots. Let the soil get bone dry and water again. Make sure to give it a bright light spot.
Remember the zz cutting my friend was giving me? It turned out to be a very young stalk, not fully grown, as I thought. It is about 12 inches long, but very young and tender with leaves only on the top half, but quite healthy. Do you think I can propagate it? I have it in water for now. I had wanted to do stem or leave cuttings but am hesitant because it is not fully developed. Any advice?
Hello. I'm sure it would be fine to propagate the stem. With it being immature I'm not too sure how it would do for single leaf cuttings. Good luck with that propagation and keep me posted!
Hello. Beautiful specimen you have there and great video. I have three variety of ficus but the Tineke is my favourite (Got myself 2 specimen 🤨). They are between 3 to 4 feet tall from the bottom of the pot to the top. Mines grow very well and are kept a couple of feet from a South-East facing Window and are planted in a well draining soil with a lot of wood chips in the mix. I let them dry completely before watering. I’ve had some spider mites infestations in the past the most recent one was this summer. However, I was lucky enough to catch them early. Have you heard of the ficus shivereana? Stunning one. I Have not seen it yet in person and cannot wait to get my hands on one.
Sounds like our care is pretty similar. And yes I have heard of the shivereana!!! Wishlist plant of mine as well, but it looks like Australia is the only place you can get them from currently. 😪
Just bought one. I keep my rubber trees in full sun all day from April to November. Zone 6b. In the winter I take them in because I don't know if they can survive the freeze we get sometimes. It can get really cold 🥶
Sorry if these are dumb questions but I’m very new to ficus parenthood! Do you have multiple planted in the pot? Any tips other than just planting them together? Also, can spider mite damage be a bit bronze colored? Like a smattering of bronze dots like the white/translucent ones you showed on yours? Thank you for this great video!!
These are great questions! Yes, my tineke came with multiple stems in one pot for that bushy look. What tips are you wanting to know? Spider mites damage can look like that for sure. Just look on the backside of the leaves and check for small webs.
@@EverythingPlants thank you, this is so helpful! I guess I’m looking for tips on how to pot stems together: should I double the size of my pot if I buy another similarly sized tineke to pot with the one I have? When my guys get more established and I attempt to chop + prop, can I just plant the propagations in the pot with the mother tree or will that restrict the roots too much?
Great looking plant! My Tineke has one long stem and all the leaves are on top. I’m proud to say I have four new leaves forming and keep her in a south facing window w/direct sun. Any suggestions on how to get leaves to grow on the bottom? Appreciate your response.
It is no guarantee, but sometimes pruning the top (apical bud) can promote or encourage branching and leaf grow lower in the plant....it activates below. If you were to prune for this reason (again no guarantee) then I would only attempt this in spring or summer months when the plant is actively growing. I have only done this to my fiddle leaf fig.....
Great video!! I have a small Tineke that is maybe about 1 foot tall. It is growing new leaves pretty regularly but now it is starting to have a big lean to one side. Do you recommend re-potting and trying to get it straighter? Or do you generally just use a stick to try to keep it straight? Thanks!
I bought mine directly from a company in Canada. Here is the link if you want to check them out. There are a couple different companies, but those one had free shipping. www.growliv.com/
Normally I don't let it dry out. I just stick it right in water. Make sure it's in a bright area and I would think and probably 3-4 weeks you should have some roots
@@raquelcorbito7885 it may have been retaining too much moisture in the soil causing root rot....these guys need a well draining soil and need to dry out.
@@EverythingPlants thanks for this video.I learned a lot.and i will buy again and follow your steps. My ficus robusta is doing well.Do i need to fertilize it during winter times?

I let them dry completely before watering. I’ve had some spider mites infestations in the past the most recent one was this summer. However, I was lucky enough to catch them early.
Have you heard of the ficus shivereana? Stunning one. I Have not seen it yet in person and cannot wait to get my hands on one.
Sounds like our care is pretty similar. And yes I have heard of the shivereana!!! Wishlist plant of mine as well, but it looks like Australia is the only place you can get them from currently. 😪
@@EverythingPlants Yes, Australia plant lovers are the lucky ones 🙂
Just bought one. I keep my rubber trees in full sun all day from April to November. Zone 6b. In the winter I take them in because I don't know if they can survive the freeze we get sometimes. It can get really cold 🥶
Nice! This is such an amazing houseplant. How long have you had yours for?
Hi Pickles! 👍🏼
@@EverythingPlants will try when it warms up thank you
Great video!! I have a small Tineke that is maybe about 1 foot tall. It is growing new leaves pretty regularly but now it is starting to have a big lean to one side. Do you recommend re-potting and trying to get it straighter? Or do you generally just use a stick to try to keep it straight? Thanks!
Do you rotate the plant?
Did you buy the swirskii mites from Amazon ?
I bought mine directly from a company in Canada. Here is the link if you want to check them out. There are a couple different companies, but those one had free shipping.

do u let the sap dry out before sticking it into water? how many months during spring/summer until it's ready to transplant into soil (approx)?
Normally I don't let it dry out. I just stick it right in water. Make sure it's in a bright area and I would think and probably 3-4 weeks you should have some roots
@@EverythingPlants thank you
I’m amazed at how full your Tineke is, did you plant more than one or did it get that full?
I bought it like this...obviously was a bit smaller. I think it has 5 separate stems in one pot.
My leaves had dark spots on it . I sprayed it and now I have one leaf left. My burgundy is doing great.
Is it in a well draining soil?
@@EverythingPlants yes . That's what I don't get.
My Tineke leaves are drooping. What should I do.
Is it in a well draining soil?
It would be looking pretty cool besides a ficus Benjamini :)
Ya, that would look awesome
My plant has brown edges .?
"That's so confusing, sorry," LOL. dead.
Sometimes I just keep talking and repeating....which leads to nonsense lol
💚
Thanks Michelle
Mine is dead just after a few days since i bought it .I tried everything but nothing i could do to revive it.So sad
Root rot?
@@EverythingPlants i don't know.i think it's just a week it lasted.it same as your plant.it started with brown leaves till everything dropped.
Yah it was.i used up 50% of pottingmix and 50% of cactus soil and a handful of perlite.and they don't like it.So im planning to buy a new one and follow yours.
I have this plant, but for some reason the leaves are all droopy and won't come back up.
Is the soil wet or dry. These don't like soggy soil for very long otherwise they drop leaves.
@@EverythingPlants I don't have it in soil. I have it in Lecca.
@@EverythingPlants I don't have it in soil I have it in Lecca.
I had a cutting of my tineke in water for months and nothing ever happened, then I tried adding a pothos cutting to the water and within days, the tineke started to root!
See, it works! I'm assuming you watched my pothos experiment video hahaha
@@EverythingPlants I actually didn't see that video, I just heard about it from a friend lol
Is the black doggie a cockapoo!?

Oh no its the ghost of Tineke past!
It's back
สวยมากชอบมากจ้า👍👍👍ขอบคุนรายการที่มีคุนค่สาระ🙏
this is TERRIBLE timing as my tineke which was struggling was just yesterday decapitated by my wrestling dogs 😭
(I kept it, can it be propped?)
Yes, stick it in water and see what happens. It's tough to tell because I can't see the plant, but give it a try. If you have Instagram, feel free to send me a picture of the plant.
My tineki is losing its leaves
How is the light situation???
@@EverythingPlants grow light. It hates me. I want to send you some thing to replace your pencil. Lol
