TO ALL: Be aware that as of the moment I'm typing this, she's up to SG-1 8x17 and Atlantis 1x15 on her Patreon. Please refrain yourself from talking about any future episodes / events beyond this point. In order for you all to get a genuine reaction, it's important she remains spoiler free. Let's keep her safe y'all!
Yeah I had a comment about something she said about the characters but decided even vague references to future characters could be considered spoilery.
Most ppl don't realize that The City started lighting up only AFTER Sheppard came out of the wormhole. He didn't even have to touch anything. This told my head canon that Atlantis wasn't just an advanced AI but also possibly sentient. Again that's just MY BRAIN writing stories. But watch the scene when John steps into The City...HE wakes up Atlantis.
@@baz0348 All I was saying is that Atlantis didn't last as long as SG1, cause they couldn't get their ratings as high. By the end of the series, Atlantis was a really good show. ☮️
The Ancient in the beginning, is the one from the Antarctic episode with Jonas Quinn, where O'Neill agrees to blend with a Tokra at the end, for the sake on the intelligence that he needs to pass on and due to Carter pleads for him to do it to save his life! We've also seen Dr. Beckett before, he played the young Ernest Littlefield, Katherine Langford's long-lost fiancé, whom she thought was dead, in the Torment of Tantalus, the episode where we first learn about the 4 great races, the universal language using elements and the "Meaning of Life Stuff".
From what I understand, McKay wasn't originally intended to be part of Atlantis and the creators were developing a separate, original character that would have fill that purpose and for one reason or another - possibly because they realized they had someone or because they simply wanted the actor to be on the show, they decided to just make it McKay. But this also meant doing some character work to make McKay more likeable if he was going to be a main character on a series. Originally, the SG-1 creators envisioned the plot of Atlantis, or at least the plot of what became the Atlantis pilot, to be an SG-1 story; possibly a standalone movie or season/series conclusion. Then the Sci-Fi channel said they wanted a new series, and that became Atlantis, but even then they assumed SG-1 would be ending and they'd be moving on to SGA; only for SciFi to say, especially with them getting into season 7, and RDA wanting to dial back his involvement; and then Sci-Fi was like, "oh, no we want SG-1 to continue and you'll have both shows". This lead Atlantis to located in a separate galaxy, in order to help keep the two shows from becoming entangled in each other's plots.
Quite excited to be watching this new show along with you, Miss Shannan. And I look forward to spotting your -grubby fingers- handiwork during the introductions, Tony.
The reason this show didn't make it to 100 episodes, like SG1, is the producers and writers thought SG1 was popular because of "Close calls". SG1 was more popular than Atlantis because SG1 had alliances.
So glad you are enjoying Stargate SG1 enough to also start with Stargate Atlantis. Both shows have a special place in my heart (and my DVD/Blu ray collection ;)). Hope you get to have a spoiler free experience for both of them and that you continue having fun watching them. Wish more people would react to these shows. All the best from The Netherlands and thank you for making great content!
Got to the End of your reaction, was a bit between start and finish for me, the way I watch stuff :P But, I hear you girl, as the first reactor I ever followed on UA-cam, I'm happy to be one of your patrons :)
It'd be hilarious if the episode Shan doesn't really remember turns out to be like, the last episode. All of a sudden she's just like, "right, the people and they had.. hair, do this thing. It's all come back to me now. Wait, it's over?" That sort of happened to me once, I was over at a friend's house and he very proudly proclaimed how they had ever episode of Star Trek The Next Generation recorded on VHS. I was just starting to get into Star Trek at the time, had seen the odd episode here and there; and when he asked if I wanted to watch one of the episodes, I described one I had seen and kind of remembered, but wasn't sure if I had watched the whole thing. He did recognize it based on the description and replied, "oh, yeah, that was the last episode." And I was like, "Oh... I didn't know it had ended..."
It looks like you are watching the streaming TV edited version. The DVDs have all the cut scenes to reduce the running time for TV incorporated into the first 2 seasons.
I provided her with the episodes. The pilot includes all scenes but for obvious reasons we can't show all of them here on UA-cam. I cut Rising into 2 parts since it is essentially a 2 part episode. It was initially the 1h 24m full version as 1 video file but she likes to take breaks. Rising is counted on many sites to be 1x01 and 1x02. Hence why we went with 1x01 "Rising: Part 1" and 1x02 "Rising: Part 2" which you can also find here on the channel.
Beware: you may actually grow to love Rodney McKay. lol you've been warned. Also, just a thought, maybe you like StarGate and not really any other SciFi, because it's written to be a little more realistic...? personally, I believe that's why i think It's much better thematically, than Trek or Wars.
I watched your reaction to Stargate Atlantis episode 1 yours ended early,. So after I zipped into Wollies, I got out my DVDs & watched the first episode it ran for 1 hr 25 minutes.. I don't know where you accessed it but the original as I said it's longer. Any way enjoy the rest
While the pilot (Rising) is actually just 1 episode, the episode is essentially a 2 parter. (The season still consists of 20 episodes in total) When I initially got it for her, the pilot was one file, however due to the fact she likes to be able to take a break after a while, I split the episode into 2 parts. You can find 1x02 on the channel here as well in case you're curious.
Hey there, while I can't speak for her on which one she prefers (I'm thinking that would probably be something she'd decide on once she's watched all of it). I can however answer your question regarding the Stargate movie. I had her watch the Kurt Russell / James Spader movie BEFORE the SG-1 pilot a long while ago. I haven't gotten around to editing it, I made an intro and everything but just didn't finish the edit and instead focussed on the many other duties I had on my to-do list. If you'd like to watch the reaction to the movie, best I can do for now is give you the following link. Head down to "Stargate movies" to find it. This is also where the other movies will be once it's time for her to watch those. (continuity wise it's still some time until we get to that, please no spoilers) www.aftershowreactions.com/Patreon-content/gateverse-patreon-reactions
@@TonyWasHereI really don't want to tell him, don't worry. Good luck to her for the future, it’s really a universe that I love enormously. Thank you very much.
I reckon based on what you said you probably saw a later episode back in the day. Not going to be any more specific about why I think that due to spoilers!

I was about to make what I thought was a completely tangential, silly comment then realized it was spoilery after a hop, skip, and a jump. Close call.

@@shadout Thanks for showing restraint, sadly not everyone on UA-cam has such self control 😅
All of this information was exactly what I wanted. Thanks.
No way this is coming to UA-cam one of my favorite shows of all time that no one has reacted to
You better believe it!
FYI, someone else is currently reacting to it.

Paul McGillion (Carson Beckett) played young Ernest Littlefield in SG-1 (1x10 Torment of Tantalus).
Both shows were filmed in Canada, so many of the actors are Canadian.

Yeah, lock down an example.
Stargate Atlantis was truly brilliant you're going to love this as much as every stargate fan did.
SG1 was popular because they made alliances. Atlantis didn't have as many. Not like the Free Jafa and Asgard.
@@raymondamador1487 didn't say sg-1 was inferior to atlantis in anyway just it was brilliant in it's own way as most fans of the franchise saw it.

It is the only way to enjoy them properly.

Mckay has such a great arc in Atlantis he starts out a lot like he left off in early SG-1 and becomes one best parts of the show
One of the greatest minds across two galaxies.
Rachel was in Charmed - the witch that Cole killed at the end of season 3.
Atlantis my favourite too, Rodney and Shepherd bromance 😊
Rodney remains my favourite character despite all his social flaws. But then I liked David Hewlett as an actor since Cube.
