  • In this video we use our Earthquake Versa 99cc Tiller and Kubota L2501 compact tractor to prepare our vegetable garden for spring planting.
This walk-behind tiller was the primary tool my family used to turn this portion of pasture into a thriving vegetable garden. Overall, this tiller has fulfilled our expectations and has proved a sound investment on our small farm in New England.

I bought an almost new Versa for $80 from Facebook marketplace. This thing really digs deep.

That's a heck of a deal! No regrets paying full-price here; I suspect it'll last a long time with a bit of upkeep!

Greetings from North Wilkesboro, N.C., about five mile from the speedway. You have a pretty piece of property there. How you fixed for irrigation? We're in the foothills here, so our garden is relatively small, but we have plenty of water available from several creeks that run through. I've been researching that Earthquake tiller, like you did. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger, considering it's 99cc motor and
the price, which is cheap compared to others. Happy growing!

Mine leaked gas from the carburetor. I got a replacement from them and when I took off the old one I noticed there wasn’t a rubber gasket where it attaches to the motor. There was one on the front where the cover attaches though. The replacement came with both gaskets so I assume it leaked where there wasn’t a gasket. Hopefully having the other gasket on solves the issue for me. Going to test soon

I have one of these. Got it from tractor supply. I use it for where my 7ft tractor tiller doesn’t fit

Awesome! I'm still saving my pennies for a PTO tiller to save time on some larger areas in the future.

Are you still happy with this tiller? Looking at it from Tractor Supply. Thanks for the video

Absolutely! Pulled it out yesterday to till the flower garden for Mothers day planting. Starts right up year after year and the garden beds are a joy to work in.

Great video thank you, is this a 2-stroke or 4-stroke engine?

I'm female, 70 and just had hip replacement surgery. would you think this is something I could handle? I have people to help, but I prefer to have something I could use myself if the need arises?

It's still a pretty turbulent experience on virgin ground... your Dr. Might not approve. Easy enough for my teenage son to run though if you do have the help. Good luck!

gas leak is a concern if it spills onto garden soil

    • @Academy_Farm
      @Academy_Farm  4 місяці тому +1

Agreed. These "leaks" are very minor and I'm not sure how much, if any, hits the ground before it evoprates. Most all of it is remedied by not over-filling the tank.

I just bought one and these things are not meant for tall people. I’m 6’2” and I almost have to bend in half to use it. My wife is 5’4” and she has to bend over to use it. They need to make tools and garden equipment for tall people.

Good point! Certainly not a one-size-fits-all deal.

We have the exact same tiller and it's been great. I prefer it over our larger Troybilt Pony. The pony tries to takeoff on its own and beats the crap outta you 🫤.

Good point! I've ran units before that really take you for a ride. This takes a bit longer but the end results are the same.

It should last a lifetime... how much would you need to pay someone to till what you want tilled? How often would they need to do it again? That's how we justified it...
