    The cross bar inside the mount is to prevent your mounting pole from going to far up and touching the dish

      As an engineer, get rid of the spring retaining clip, it simply pops out and use a BOLT. The retaining clip has plastic snaps that will sheer in a high wind.

    If you have a pi box, then maybe get some software to run a pinging service to a server on the internet (24 7), maybe every 30 seconds and that should give you an idea of the drops out, and seeing if they show a pattern, of lost packets per day.
    Over time you will get an idea as hopefully the number of packets lost per day decreases as the coverage improves.

      @adventureswithkramer  Рік тому

      Correct, I wouldn’t go too small, just because of the force from wind blowing on it would overpower a 1” pipe potentially.

    Is the Starlink pole diameter compatible with other satellite mounting equipment like direct TV? Wonder if I pick up a J-mount mast for a slope roof if it will connect to the Sarlink pole.

    • @adventureswithkramer
      @adventureswithkramer  3 роки тому +1

      I think it would work just fine, depends on the type but as long as you have a few inches of pipe to connect to and its secure and a clear view of the northern sky you should be just fine

    • @michaelholliday100

      The Starlink pole where the snap connectors are located is 1.4" in diameter. I used a very rigid 2" T6061 Structural Aluminum Pole with 0.25 in. walls and a I.D of 1.5 in. I then cut a sheet of plastic out of a 2 liter bottle and 3 in. wide and wrapped around the Starlink pole to give me an extremely tight fit within my pipe. As an engineer, I would highly suggest that you remove the little plastic retaining clip and use a 1/2 in. bolt through the pipe. The plastic clips are not structural and it is my opinion that in heavy wind they will sheer off. As an engineer I prefer a mechanical fastener to secure the Starlink to the pole.

      sry this took so long, couldn't find my tape measure. The inside diameter of the large end is 2.5" exactly, might need a pip an 1/8" smaller than that, could be a tight squeeze.

      I did not use the Starlink Pipe Adaptor. The Starlink tube where the snap connectors are located is 1.4" in diameter. I inserted the Starlink tube into the inside of a heavier tube. I belive the adapter has one slot for the leg of the dish, and the other end you mount onto a pole on/near your house. The adapter is so the leg of the dish can be mounted onto different sizes of poles

    • @michaelholliday100
      @michaelholliday100 3 роки тому

      As an engineer I like mechanical fasteners. Simply tightening three bolts into a pipe just does not do it for me. I used an T6061 Aluminum Tube with 0.25 in. walls, but you could use a steel pipe with a 1.43 in. to 1.50 in. I.D. I then removed the retaining clip, cut a 3 in. wide band out of a 2 liter bottle and wrapped it around the pole on the dish until I had a tight fit inside my pipe (mounting pole). Ran a bolt through and it is going no where... It is extremely rigid.

    • @adventureswithkramer
      @adventureswithkramer  3 роки тому

      Depends on the dish setup, but if you can get to just the pole and have the starlink dish be high enough above stuff then you should be golden. One thing to look out for is that most old satellites 📡 faced SOUTH and starlink needs to face NORTH.
