Love all your videos you do including the longer ones. Why don't you typically tune the pianos you demo tho ? Perhaps because they are on the sale floor?

I've always wondered if it was out of tune or if it was the recording setup distorting the sound. Or maybe I'm too used to digital pianos having a "clean" sound.

the K500 actually sounds richer and less brassy than the GL10. A bit more unified, whole, and sweet timbre. I would describe it as “sophisticated.” The GL10 had more clarity and soundstage, and by design, dynamic range (maybe a little too much color harmonics), but I actually felt it wasnt as refined a sound and could have used more body and control to it.
Between the two, I would absolutely go for the K500. If the K800 is an option financially speaking, that might give a bit more dynamics and open up the sound. However, in most acoustically untreated households, with people who aren’t audiophiles like myself, the much higher price difference probably would not improve the sound as much. And also there is the fact that if I never listen to a K800 in person, I wont have to worry about it competing with the K500 -or with my budget Lol
The GL and K series are an interesting comparison because I had never considered uprights until last year. And I always told myself I would get a GL10 someday after hearing it recorded on an album I bought. Now it seems Kawai’s “Grand Uprights” are really starting to compete with their baby grands. Now I think I will be getting either the K500 or 800.
European uprights and vintage Euro uprights are another league still, but if we only consider what is easily available in the North American market, with a warranty, I really think Kawai is the closest we will get to that kind of sound.
I very much enjoyed the demo and the playing. Of course the piano positions and closed vs open lids didnt help. But that’s my impression for now.

The k-500 sounded so weird to me, almost like an out of tune honky tonk.
