I own an U3 and it is gorgeous. For me the K500 sounds like my U3 with the felt on (not exactly, but it is the best way to describe it)

I like a new to new comparison due to the amount of continual changes made by both marques to their tone and with Kawai, tone and action. I also think the Yamaha is voiced in the brighter side for a 2015 model. Yamaha goes for a crisp, crystalline sound (in the treble) where Kawai's overall sounds are more softened. But Yamaha continues to soften their sound as well while maintaining the crisp attack. The warm vs. bright stuff is just too almost cliche now to mean anything. There are aspects of all Kawais that are brighter than Yamahas and both can get very deep in their bass ranges though Kawai has more bass in its tenor to alto range, usually.

The Kawai talks way more. It wants me to listen.
