  • As the 108th running of the Indy 500 nears, ticket sales continue to trend toward a sellout. Does that mean the television blackout on race day might be lifted? How soon might a new TV deal get done and who are the frontrunners? Just some of the questions we pose to IndyCar CEO Mark Miles.

The blackout in central Indiana is BS.

Couldn't agree with you more. This joker and the other one in charge is just that a joke. The blackout rule should have been lifted years ago. Why penalize the people who live in the Indianapolis area? How about us cutomers who have a Peacock subscription? Why force a blackout for us?

Our local NBC channel is worthless when it comes to any motor sports.

Ticket sales 'surged' because NOBODY can find the races on TV with the crappy Peacock streaming deal. A new TV deal needs to be free to watch the heavily sponsored rolling advertising billboards parade nose to tail for 2 1/2 hours on road tracks

Pretty soon the traditional middle class fan won’t be able to attend - like Formula 1 is today. It’s only about $$ these days.

Really? Seems like some whine. Lots of different ticket price points. Better prices than the Big 4 sports.

@3338MAN Wrong Ratings were up last year for the 500 and the series had its best year in years last year. .All race tracks have taken seats out. The Speedway has taken a fewer percentage of seats out than any track you can name. Daytona now only has about 100,000 seats compared to 234,000 at Indy. Slow motion Nascrap 7x champion Jimmie Johnson brought ratings down 2 years ago for the 500, not up..One must remember that more than 60,000 seats were added prior to the 1993 race, with only 23,000 removed since..The race remains easily the most attended single day race event in the world by a large margin, 3x Daytona and 2x the Kentucky Derby..The problem with the TV ratings is the fact it's an Early Sunday event.. Put the race back on Prime Time at 9pm Sunday night on tape delay like it used to be and ratings would soar. From 1970-1985 no racing event in the world came close in ratings, and believe me the racing product today is 100x better now than then.. Back then you would be lucky to have 10 cars still running at lap 190, with only 1 or 2 on the lead lap..Today there are 25-30 still running with 5-10 on the lead lap and the cars are 40 mph faster..I'll be at my 39th Indy Sunday..When the "Stars" 😂 of Nascrap come in July they can't get 50,000 anymore to show up..Indycar is 50 years older and 60 mph faster.

@@3338MAN 7 time Nascar Champion Jimmie Johnson lowered ratings considerably 2 years ago. They were up last year without a Nascar Star. Why do I want to see Nascar drivers who drive cars that are much easier to drive at 50-60 mph slower than IndyCars? When Nascar itself shows up at the Speedway they can't get 50,000 to show up anymore.
Indy remains the largest attended single day Sporting Event in the world and is now 3x the size of Daytona, and 2x the size of the Ky Derby in attendance..

@@3338MANThe race nearly sold out last year but they've already sold 16,000 more tickets this year. Overall the race has been up in attendance for years except the two Covid years. I've seen every race in person since 1985 minus the Covid no fans race of 2020..The racing has never been better
