Vai has stated that his biggest inspiration for his sound was his previous work in Frank Zappa’s band which is where he started to develop the core basis for his signature sound. Sure maybe 80s hair metal had a small impact, but vai has a very technical and progressive rock sound and I really wouldn’t compare it to 80s hair metal a whole lot.
@@whyme4512 You are likely correct. I don't know Steve's bio. I'm not saying Steve sounds like '80's hair metal, I'm saying '80's hair metal tried to sound like him. When he hit the scene, people noticed. I'm not saying that's his best work or only work, but that's what I will remember him for. I still remember where I was the first time I saw Yankee Rose on MTV because of him and I'm not a guitarist.
