- Ever since its debut on McDonald’s menus in 1981, the McRib has been a popular Golden Arches staple. Throughout its sticky existence, the McRib has garnered adoration from fans so strong that they’ll drive hundreds of miles for their favorite sandwich. The “McFib” has also earned its share of revulsion, confusion, and most of all, curiosity.

As a teenager, I worked at McDonald's from 98-00, and they introduced the McRib that summer for the season. We hated it! It was messy, required fastidious clean up, and was difficult to keep warm because the sauce would eventually dry up and turn into paste. We were always happy to see it go in the fall. I remember nights of constant scrubbing to get the warming plates clean of that forsaken paint, aka BBQ sauce that would cement itself onto the insides of said plate.p

i worked At McDonalds from 1983-1985 and the McRib was on the menu full time! i loved the McRib because at night BACK THEN our manager let us take the leftovers home after closing, i would take them home fry them up and eat good :)

The Mcrib got cancelled at my local McDonald's because of customers buying in bulk and slowing down the service. There was literally a picket around the store calling for the Mcrib to be reinstated. Imo, it should be a regular food item. It's so dam good. ♥
But read some of these other comments and see that McDonald's workers would strongly object to that.

Not too long ago, I saw a cartoon with the leader of Taiwan in a weapons shop. Uncle Sam is standing behind the counter saying "Hi, welcome to Weapons R US! How may I assist you today?" Chinese leader Xi meanwhile is outside the window furiously glancing in. A hilarious yet accurate picture of America's arms sales industry.
The McRib is a permanent item here in Germany, and probably in more countries. It used to be one of my faves, sometimes I would have two in one sitting and I still like it once in a blue moon.
in belgium we have something called a mexicano that's the meat of the mcrib , we have it also in a burger , but not at mcdonalds

We had mcribs but they weren’t the real deal.
In fallout 4 a school distributed a pink paste similar to the meat slime.
We did too, the worst was the “vegetarian” one. I’m not exaggerating when I say it tasted like cardboard. They for some reason gave me one once instead of the pork. Just added extra bbq and dealt with it.
I recently had a McRib and all I can say is that I was more pleased with my past memories of the McRib than I was with the one I just ate.
Still a decent sandwich, but... the thrill is gone.
Why? Was it more mushy, or what? Just curious.
@@NathanTarantlawriter It just wasn't as good as I remember it from my younger days... or at least it seemed to be "not as good". It's probably more of a perception issue on my end rather than a quality of the sandwich issue on their end.

The McRib is actually made from pork only. Its not high grade meat. Its barely mid grade but its good. Its actually the same quality pork sold in places like Walmart and places like it. Its not bad. It does have a lot of sugar. Not a crazy amount but a good amount. I cant speak for other restaurants that make their versions of a McRib. Theres a video with the entire process of how its made.

This sandwich, no offense to those who like it, isn’t really all that. The “meat” is a bit rubbery and the BBQ sauce is the most basic bbq sauce there is.

We got the McRib back in Australia early 2019 to only vanish a few months later.
It's only sold when pork is at its lowest demand
It only lasts 2-3 months a year in the U.S.

That’s a terrible description, it’s completely pork.
It's chopped and shaped mechanically separated meat aka all the scraps off the floor it's never seen a real pork rib in its life!!
I'd love to hear about how all fast food restaurants had to change their recipes around 10 years ago to meet new trans fat requirements and KFC crispy recipe fell off the menu for 8 months only to return as an abomination of its former self, they even changed their original recipe. EVERY recipe has changed from KFC to OREO.

Absolutely fascinating! The McRib is a staple in my house every time it comes around! Almost like holiday!
Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of working at McDonald’s knows exactly what it was like to warm up the McRib BBQ Sauce. Although delicious, this sauce warmed up was like pepper spray in food form. I’m not kidding, this stuff literally would make you tear up and burn your nostrils every time you had to open the container. I worked there for 3 years before I left I could go on and on about that place.

Even worse, was washing out the steamer pans at the end of the day that contained the sauce. That stuff would vaporize if you used the sprayer on the pan and would permeate the entire kitchen area.
Thats cauz capsaicin is what pepper spray is made from.

The McRib always grossed me out. I worked at McD's as a teenager and we used to pull out those oddly-shaped frozen bricks, put them on the grill, then toss them in a vat of barbecue sauce that bubbled all day and had to be stirred to keep from burning. When someone ordered one, we had to fish one out and slap it on a bun with pickles and raw onions. Heinous. No thank you.

Having grown up on a farm that had pork, the McRib never was really all that good to me. It was okay, but nothing to oink about.
Honestly, I love good McDonald's burger every once in a while but whenever the McRib shows up, I know its temporary and thats why I havent bothered to try it. That was like the time they had those great mozzerella sticks for a dollar and that sweet chili Thai sauce. I wont be disappointed anymore...

I just had my first taste recently too and I’m so pissed I wasted that money. I’m glad someone enjoyed it but it was awful.

It's my favorite fast food sandwich. The raw union give is some crunch and another layer of flavor. And the McRib sauce is better than the regular BBQ sauce you get with the nuggets. As I post this on 11.24.22 (Thanksgiving), I'de rather have a McRib that all the company and turkey. They're closed today, but I'll get two tomorrow!
