Michael C. Hall is probably my most favorite actor. The first work I've seen him in is Dexter and now I'm just starting to watch Six Feet Under. I honestly don't know in which show I love him more, but the more I watch SFU, the more I lean toward that show. It's unfair to make a comparison in which show is better since they're both completely different shows. Michael's performance in either show is outstanding. It was hard for me to believe that this same man who played a detached serial killer also played a neurotic, yet caring, funeral director beforehand (and then I see scenes like this one and it makes me love him even more). Also, I wish I could see him in Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway. I've heard great reviews of his performance there as well.
I know you made this comment 7 years ago, but David Fisher is light years better than Dexter. And I’m a huge fan of both don’t get me wrong. But Six Feet Under is just a way better show. Don’t think there’s another show like it.
Six feet under is an extraordinary show especially the last episode one of the best things I've ever seen and I love this clip with Dave. Thanks for posting.
I LOVE this scene. I'm cracking up. I watched the Six Feet Under series earlier this year, and immediately started watching Dexter next. Michael C. Hall is one of my favorite actors.
Agreed. I only got into this show because I liked Michael C. Hall in Dexter so when I saw this it was hilarious because I was so accustomed to him as Dexter.
MCH is very much a triple threat - amazing actor, dancer AND singer! Watched 6ft under before Dexter and was worried that I would only see him as `David`` - well 2 minutes through Dexter and I was hooked - wonderful actor!
i just started watching this show and saw this episode yesterday. LOVE IT. love david. michael c hall is brilliant. one day David grows up to become a bulky hot serial killer named Dexter ;P
after watching 2 seasons of dexter in less than a week, i'm so used to seeing him as a self concious person not letting anyone into his mind and being so careful of what he is doing. and then seeing this. i can't stop laughing!!!
it just blows my mind knowing his is a theater actor from broadway, and played this gay charcacter in SFU (which i never saw) but i was introduced to him in Dexter and man...do i ever believe HIM as Dexter. Such extremities. such incredible acting and talent!
HAHA omg I love this! I have seen a lot of Six Feet Under but I must have missed this episode. doppleganger, I like your idea. When the time comes the next season someone should post this as Dexter: Season 3, ha!
It expands your experience as and actor and also causes you to step out of yourself even more, thus making the character even more believable. He obviously put everything into being David Fisher by stepping out of himself because he was completely believable as a gay man, and that makes him a committed actor, not a greedy, self-degrading loser.
Also, Hall is an ACTOR. Actors need to make money like anyone else, it's got nothing to do with the sexuality of the roles. It's a JOB. Hall played David for both the money and because he's damn good and wanted to depict an interesting character on a good series. No different from every single actor in the industry. Unless you're just starting out, you don't take roles to go broke, you take roles that you both like and get paid well for.
Same here, I'm a straight female and though the idea of hooking up with another woman is extremely unappealing to me as an individual, I would certainly do it if it was part of an interesting character or storyline. And if that's the case, I would give it my all to make it believable. Hall's sexuality doesn't matter, but as far as anyone knows, he's straight. So if he's comfortable playing a gay man, it only demonstrates his strength as an actor and comfort with his own sexuality.
Thank you for clarifying that, StygianFilms. Some people are just so narrow-minded. I'm a heterosexual girl who's had a boyfriend for almost 2 years, and I wouldn't mind playing a lesbian in a show or a movie if that's what the part called for. If you're a committed actor, nothing will get in your way - including the sexual orientation of the character.
if you think about it, little silent david the voice of reason, always prim and prompt but inside battling with his gayness and trying to squash his "dark side" many times isn't so different from dexter the serial killer. he has a dark side too, the killer but on the outside he has to look composed and unsuspicious. he has no feelings true, but david has to conceal his feelings often too. but im not saying killer=gayness, i just say the characters' dynamics are in parallel.
Listen, you're entitled to your oppinion, but you're not getting an important point here. He's not only doing it for the money. Michael C. Hall is a big-time actor, and was probably rolling in cash before Six Feet Under even began filming. One major step in improving your acting is to take on a roll that is the complete opposite of yourself. If that means playing a person of a different sexual orientation, so be it!
Heh that's EXACTLY what I said to him...you'll note he never addressed any of the valid points anyone made. He just completely ignored every intelligent response that people made and continued to repeat his absurd, pointless whining about self-respect and prostitution and disappointment. That goes far beyond ignorance to just plain troll...
The fact that you think he's gay just goes to show that he is the complete opposite of "crap" as an actor, since he isn't gay. Next time you want to insult someone, don't contradict yourself.
Wow, every time that I think you can't possibly top the idiocy of your last post, you do. You've gotten a number of people, myself included, already saying that he most likely did it because he likes the role. Your logic is ridiculous and childish. You don't need to be gay to play an interesting gay character. Furthermore, you conveniently skipped the part of my post making comparisons to his roles in Dexter and Kevin Spacey playing straight men, etc. You clearly don't get the concept of acting.
... You're disturbed by him convincingly playing a gay man but not a serial killer? Nice POV you have going there. If the role is good, it doesn't *matter* what sexual orientation the character is. It obviously factors in and straight men would have to deal with playing gay (gay men playing straight as well), but at the end of the day, people are people. You've got some seriously warped thinking going on.
You completely missed the point of the "debate" (though that word is subject to interpretation since it was just intelligent folks bashing their heads against a brick wall). The discussion wasn't about Hall, it was about the fact that some idiot claimed that no straight actor could play a homosexual character unless they were either secretly gay or bi or had no self respect and only wanted the money....which is a grossly ignorant comment on all counts. I couldn't care less about Hall's sexuality
So you consider it degrading and lacking self respect for an actor to portray a different sexuality? Guess you've never seen Queer as Folk, half the cast is as straight as the other half is gay. And they all have graphic sex scenes every episode. Hmm, I guess they're "degrading" themselves by being open enough to play great characters in an incredible series, huh?
If you want your mind to be changed, then stop fighting back with your questionable logic! StygianFilms is making extremely valid points and you're just refusing to listen. Please open up your mind - that's all I ask.
God, you still are an opiniated boring cow. And how do you know he's not gay? Have you slept with him or are you just hopeful that you will one day. Yeah, right - too much to ask for on your part.
Dexter's fabulous passenger
+InsaneDane LMFAO!!
I find it amazing that he can play two characters so phenomenally different to each other so well.
Is there anything that Michael C. Hall cannot do?! He is an amazing actor. Simply A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
The ending Dexter should've got
Michael C. Hall is probably my most favorite actor. The first work I've seen him in is Dexter and now I'm just starting to watch Six Feet Under. I honestly don't know in which show I love him more, but the more I watch SFU, the more I lean toward that show.

Six feet under is an extraordinary show especially the last episode one of the best things I've ever seen and I love this clip with Dave. Thanks for posting.

Wow, I love his voice. he should totally do a musical movie.
I LOVE this scene. I'm cracking up. I watched the Six Feet Under series earlier this year, and immediately started watching Dexter next.
Michael C. Hall is one of my favorite actors.
The Gay Harbor Butcher.
🤣🤣🤣🤣. Love this comment
This ain't Dexter Morgan.
It looks exactly like him.
But this character is David Fisher.
They are identical so it's easy to get them confused.
Agreed.
I only got into this show because I liked Michael C. Hall in Dexter so when I saw this it was hilarious because I was so accustomed to him as Dexter.

i can't stop laughing!!!

lol it would be so funny if Dexter just randomly broke into song (and dance) like that! lmao
I love michael c. hall. such a great actor
It would've been hilarious if grahzny posted this as Dexter: Season 2 back in May. He acts a little like Dexter at the end too.

This isn't part of Harry's code.. Dex
HAHA!! love this comment

I can't believe this guy is Dexter Morgan.
@Groovebug37 You're right! He´s like a male version for Meryl streep!
HAHA omg I love this! I have seen a lot of Six Feet Under but I must have missed this episode.
doppleganger, I like your idea. When the time comes the next season someone should post this as Dexter: Season 3, ha!
how Michael C Hall went from playing David Fisher to Dexter Morgan?
DEXTER.
NO WAY
LOL
:D You just gotta love SFU for that kind of scenes...
i try to imagine him as dexter but i can't
he has to sing, ha, what lovely
I only know Michael from Dexter. Watching this I'm like WTF! Is this the same guy?! I guess that tell ya he's a good actor...
"You're alive, so come on and SHOW IT!" Shit, I will never see Dexter the same way after this. I have got to see Six Feet Under! :))

Doakes: jesus Christ Morgan JESUS FUCKING CHRIST YOU'RE THE GAY HARBOUR LOVER.
Dexter: I really like that name.

LMAO! Great!
lawl, hurray for David and SFU xD

It makes more adorable sense than robb stark being a gay fireman.
@pumpkinflowers Eaxactly.What great mover.
Dexter Morgan :D
If dexter broke out in this musical number on the crappiest series finale to an amazing show.....it wouldn't have been so bad seriously 😂

hes a broadway performer hes done musicals and stuff ofcourse hs knows how to sing

This is so weird... I only know him as Dexter

Got a Lot of Living to Do
Get over it, he's just a really good actor. Geez...
@PoutingXEvoke
That just gave me an awesome idea.
if you think about it, little silent david the voice of reason, always prim and prompt but inside battling with his gayness and trying to squash his "dark side" many times isn't so different from dexter the serial killer. he has a dark side too, the killer but on the outside he has to look composed and unsuspicious. he has no feelings true, but david has to conceal his feelings often too. but im not saying killer=gayness, i just say the characters' dynamics are in parallel.
god
You do realize that six feet under came out before Dexter right? So what if he played a gay character, it's called acting for a reason.
michael c. hall is awesome, lol.

@MarinaJohnnyAmanda LOL
well he's an actor. that's what they do. unless you're trying to say that he's gay.
@MarinaJohnnyAmanda XD....

He might be bi, but he's def not gay. My friend waited tables on broadway and she's seen a lot...
God, you still are an opiniated boring cow. And how do you know he's not gay? Have you slept with him or are you just hopeful that you will one day. Yeah, right - too much to ask for on your part.
Sorry Dave, Clair has the better voice
