I'll always remember how David's relationship with Rico evolved throughout the show - turbulent but towards better understanding of one another. The episode where they hold an opera funeral for a gay lighting designer was one of the turning points. If I recall correctly, when the lighting designer's lover said "We shared our hearts, our body, and our soul", the camera panned to Rico's face right after "our body" and Rico looked subtly touched - then he again smiled when the opera singer started singing Puccini's. That was really poignant I thought.

Go easy on Rico he was raised by his own admission to be like that. In many ways his character on the subject relates to many.Rico wasnt a religious fanatic and unfortunately many are.
I think his perspective shift throughout the show was amped up a little when he realized that his cousin, who had a really lovely wife, was secretly gay, and he saw what his upbringing could do to two people, his cousin and his cousin's wife.
@@paulinaenck5797 Right well that is kind of what he meant here that you dont leave your wife and kids but if you are gay there never should have been a wife in the first place.

This scene was priceless. Whether or not we agree with the lifestyle, I can't help but think it's great that Rico got an education about those men or women who are gay. David Fisher was brilliant in the way he told his family. I saw the whole series and the acting was absolutely brilliant. You could actually feel the way that the characters feel. Happy, sad, devastated, and everything else. Alan Ball did a fantastic job with this show.
I miss Six Feet Under. And watching these scenes w/ David Fisher played by the Awesome and great actor Michael C. Hall in this well edited video of yours has just made me want to re-watch David/Keith's storyline. love your video! :)
this was so well done - 'a private life' episode - David's conversation with the gay man who had been murdered. The self loathing, very powerful stuff. How can you not love every single fisher?
"all right...we're having veal". My Gramma and my Mom had a "yeah, I know" reaction to when I came out. A lot of people's families dont. If your family kicked you out or stopped loving you, I love you and you are perfect the way you are. Keep fighting the good fight because I'm right here with you.
"How am I supposed to share God's love when I deny it from myself?" This made me weep. I came out to my church and got a lot of compassion. Even though the Churh still voted to split(Methodist) everyoe treated me kindly.
I love this scene...and it guts me that it echoes the memorial service that is also here on UA-cam of an amazing man that I had a deep meaningful relationship with for almost two decades. I will always regret how his personal & professional life resulted into so many broken hearts. My beloved friend...and everyone who loved him deserved a happier ending. I could post the link to his beautiful memorial except for my respect for his family. (They know his story.......and their shame is more than enough for them to bear. On the very off chance that any of M.B.'s family members are reading this, the only thing that I can offer is to remind them of how much he loved them.
Rico personifies the lower middle class Hispanic male who freaks out when the world doesn't conform to his hard-wired mindsets. Fortunately that is changing as men learn that there is more to a person than his sexual orientation. David's speech at the church service shows that he is a man with enormous courage and the faith-based imagination to know that everyone is worthy of love in the eyes of God. Very powerful deliverance of truth, and yet so few are ready to hear it (dead fish in those church pews).
Rico was taught to be anti gay by his family and his culture and the gay guy he caught who was cheating on his straight wife just added to his dislike of gay men in general. I am sure there is many gay people that are not cool with that either. Did you not see the wedding scene where Rico is at Davids wedding?
Michael is such and underrated and under appreciated actor is sucks! Dexter was his high point and downfall. He was so so so amazing in Dexter, I feel like he isn't cast into major roles in film and television because of his role in Dexter. Damn shame!!! This dude is awesome!
I think Rico had gay experiences, or was possibly bi. For evidence there's this scene, and the immense hatred he displayed toward his cousin after he caught him cousin having gay sex in his house. He could have been a homophobe, but I think his character was the way the show addressed the shame hetero people may feel about wandering thoughts. Rico's came into his own over the course of the show, and accepting gay people was part of it. Overall, Six Feet Under was a great show for helping me understand that the gay life style isn't that alien, it's just heavily stigmatized.
I have seen this series a few times I never thought Rico was closet gay or bi at all.The problem he had was he was raised antigay and the one he saw was married and had kids and was having gay sex.He had a problem with that guy personally and it just added to his dislike of gay men in general. To be married to someone and have kids with them and find out they are gay is fucked up.Even some gay people would not be cool with that and would say he should of divorced his wife first. Since Rico had known David for years it helped him to overcome things about gays plus Rico wasnt super religious or closed minded. In some ways Rico and Nate were way more liberal than David.I could see Rico smoking weed or doing crazy sex acts with Vanessa.
@@davetyler6520 Someone would've brought it to America eventually, gay or otherwise. I don't think Rico was gay or bi, even slightly. I think in the beginning, homosexuality, anal sex, etc just disgusted the shit out of him as a straight pussy-loving man, because he was so unfamiliar with it. But he grew as a character.

The scene where he stands up for himself in church in front of the entire congregation, rectifying his faith with his sexuality, made me want to stand up and cheer (even watching it on my laptop).
At least By the end of the show Rico's shithead level died down and he happily attended David's wedding.
The proud look on Rico's face at their wedding might actually be my favorite moment of the entire series.
I cried when the show ended. It was my favorite. we need more shows like this.
"DAAAAAVE"! lol Amazing at how powerfully dramatic AND incredibly funny this show could be at the same time.
This was such a fantastic cast. Everybody was great. I watched the whole series in its entirety twice. I think it might even be flawless.
Sgt Doakes always knew something was off with Dexter... lol
VitunVatiVille lol
Shishizurui LOL
WOW- XD
It's not in this clip but I love the bit where David jokes that he doesn't want Father Jack eulogising at his funeral as doesn't want him to think he's cruising him in his death.
Yes Father Jack and the late videos........Back to the Crack!
So weird after watching dexter
I saw Six Feet Under first, definitely weird. Especially when Dexter went to plan a funeral in one episode lol.
God I love michale C hall
This is a great series, they get to the heart of the matter on so many issues.
Fax
The best gay character in TV. The fact it was during the 00s makes it even more impactful. The fact they made you care for Rico even tho he had his shit makes you understand just how fucking good they're written. They're people.
I don't remember how I came out to my brother. This show is real & I love it. "We never talked about it. None of us are like that, except Nate. And that's because he has no other way to distinguish himself." Throwing a bit of shade there but that actually could be interpreted as a compliment. Nate expresses & talks about feelings. More in touch with spirituality & deep relating.
Watching that scene with Rico and thinking how it must have been at least a little bit hard for Freddy Rodríguez to have to play him as so benighted.
I was living for his strenght when he lectured Rico. Go off king
I went through something like this with a really obnoxious coworker once. She kept going on about Bipolar until I finally outed myself as someone with the disorder. She never brought it up again.
Dave Rindone been there with bipolar as well sorry
How did you feel afterwards?
I've been watching clips of this show since I finished with Dexter, and became a huge fan of Michael C. Hall. I wish I could find someone to make copies of the series for me. *cough*
If you have amazon you can watch it for free
Or just, you know, support the people who worked hard four this ? I know weird concept...
The acting is just perfect. The cast really worked their asses off
The scene with the mum is hilarious
Lol I know right? She's such a mom.
The clips are from several episodes but all are from season one.
This is such beautiful writing and acting
this was so well done - 'a private life' episode - David's conversation with the gay man who had been murdered.
"I think my brother is gay"
"I think your brother is lucky" ❤😂
is his mother the old lady from AHS?(the elderly maid)
Christopher Bostic yes Frances Conroy. Brilliant actress
"How am I supposed to share God's love when I deny it from myself?" This made me weep. I came out to my church and got a lot of compassion. Even though the Churh still voted to split(Methodist) everyoe treated me kindly.
This show had some of the most brilliant acting on TV ever!
This was such an excellent series.
So true
Absolutely yes
I lived and breathed this show on for a few years. I've seen every episode about 30 times.
Nice
This show was ahead of its time and so relevant for many gays in church
I think Rico had gay experiences, or was possibly bi. For evidence there's this scene, and the immense hatred he displayed toward his cousin after he caught him cousin having gay sex in his house. He could have been a homophobe, but I think his character was the way the show addressed the shame hetero people may feel about wandering thoughts.
Rico's came into his own over the course of the show, and accepting gay people was part of it. Overall, Six Feet Under was a great show for helping me understand that the gay life style isn't that alien, it's just heavily stigmatized.
Samsasrenjet well they did bring aids to America
Sexual hookups (straight, gay, whatever) without protection/condom was extremely common before the breakout of AIDS. By your logic I can say syphilis was brought by straight ppl to America - and I assure you it did kill untold number of native Americans. Or perhaps to you they don't count?
I don't think Rico was gay or bi, even slightly. I think in the beginning, homosexuality, anal sex, etc just disgusted the shit out of him as a straight pussy-loving man, because he was so unfamiliar with it. But he grew as a character.
Nah he's just a fucking bigot. He is huge ahole , cheats on his wife and shifts blame on her for not taking him back. Fuck him
Everything about the scene where David tells Ruth was so wholesome.🥺
“Just let me take care of myself.”
“But do you? I’m afraid that you don’t!”
Me with every friend I’ve ever had.
I think David is lucky did you get a look at that guy. Gotta love Brenda. She was always there for them
Frances Conroy, a goddamn LEGEND
“ _I think David is gay_ ...” “I think David is lucky, did you get a look at that guy??!!” 😁
Amazing series. Amazing actors and scripts. ❤🎉
Casting is everything. Milos Forman says as much. I adored this show.
"Oh, so you guys work out together."
Welllllll, TECHNICALLY, they do get a good sweat going...
Francis conroy is amazing beautiful in this scene and the writing is 😮so intense
"like some kid of chicken!"
Kimako Trotman 😂 Cracked me up.
This scene is almost reversed after Nate’s death. David is the one laying on the couch with a cloth over his face and Ruth comes in and have an open discussion with him that really hasn’t happened since this coming out scene. I love that.
0:22 mark, Claire's reaction lmaoooooo I love Claire
I don't choose which part of you i love ...Ruth is awesome. I wish i had a Ruth in my life!
I probably would have never watched this show if not for this character.
"Oh, well, ah, that's great! Ah, okay, great... Ah, um... okay. Great. You guys have a nice day!"
Good lord, I know it’s a small detail, but when David unbuttons the top button on his dress shirt while talking to Ruth, it’s literally like the first time in the show we see David calm and open. Ugh. And then he says the Nate line 😂
Best show of all time fr fr
I miss this show:(
richy valencia
I started watching it yesterday... I'm not really impressed so far... Is it really worth it in the long run?
Gustav Ramirez IMO, it's more than worth it. This was one of the finest shows I've ever seen.
tigr Flwer
All right, then... I'll give it a chance.
LoL. Didn't know Dexter dated Sgt. Doakes before the Dexter series hahaha
They look nothing alike youre racist
