I thing I miss the most with old dumb phones is the way you could throw it around and not cringe when you hear it clatter. Get stuff on it - wipe it off, it's fine. And a battery that lasted for weeks. Have a great weekend Michael!
After first two three videos, I thought man wow how good Micheal is with these videos but with s7 & now this one, you've taken it to an unchartered territory no one have ever touched.
The Verizon website says the phone has apps (DuraXV not XE by the way) 1.From the main screen, choose Menu. Note Utilize the 5-way navigation pad to highlight and the OK button to select. 2.Select Media Center. 3.Select Apps. 4.Select Shop Apps. 5.Select an app then press OK. 6.Select the purchase option then press OK. Press the left soft key to choose Download. To run the downloaded app, select Launch

My first phone was the Nokia N70, with the classic keypad and all. It wasn't waterproof for sure, but after a fall to the pavement, the street, and even down an escalator, it survived. The Kyocera reminds of the Nokia for a bit. It might not be the most feature packed device out there, storage was small, and the camera's horrid compared to my Lumia now, but there's a certain charm to simple tough phones like these ^^ As usual, thanks for vid Michael, really appreciate the hard work you pour into these n_n
I have used Galaxy S6 Active since last year in saltwater many times...even on a cruise. It still works. Key is the rinse off with freshwater afterwards. I will admit the wired charging is hit or miss though, but wireless charging to the rescue :). It has turned into my vacation phone for sure.
Michael, you the only UA-camr that could have caused me to watch a "dumb phone" video, because I know you will make it interesting no matter what the product is. Excellent video.
Hii Michael. More variety like this please. The after the buzz and so on were great. Phones getting samey at the moment so variety good. Keep up the good work.
Michael? This is amazing. Your reviews are just crazy. I love them. I looooooovvvvveeeee them so much. You make a boring phone interesting. And you take the time to make small things stand out. Like wearing the construction worker costume? Big fan. Real big fan of yours! And that reminds me of the good 'ol days when we used to own those flip Samsungs, Motorolas and the Nokia.
Just bought this Kyocera XV lte in 4G today brand new for 130.55 in a Ebay auction.Cant wait to activate it and start using it.I do my work and my fun stuff on my Laptop!Just wanted a Real Tough Flip Phone for every day. Thanks for a great review its much appreciated!!
I've tried smartphones so many times and I always go back to my flip phone. I'm 28, have been programming since I was in fourth grade, am generally very tech savvy... and I just can't stand smartphones. Social networking? No thanks. Games? Office? My laptop does it so much better. GPS? That's what my Garmin Epix is for. I'm going to be doing a lot of scuba diving in the near future. So this is pretty much built for me. Thanks for selling me on this big pocket-meatball.
You forgot about the Kyocera Brigadier, with the sealed battery - for better or worse when the bad battery strikes - and its covered Qi wireless charging. Otherwise, thank you for mentioning this series of Kyocera flip phones! Considering that feature phones are making a comeback, this is a really good option to have, and this particular phone is cheaper with carriers like Verison. I remember seeing a really cool Aquos flip phone that makes use of a trackpad for moving a cursor and scrolling certain texts and web sites. That, along with what Freetel has to offer, can add some really good competition in that market.
Alot of people actually miss these type of devices. Where I work people talk about their old Motorola devices like they were recalling fond childhood memories.
I recently lost my GS8 in the Pacific Ocean for about 10 minutes, and swam with it in my pocket for the better part of a day with a lot of filming, I washed the phone off in freshwater and its in perfect condition now with no issues. I'm impressed
NOW THIS IS A PHONE!! WiFi hotspot, water resistant, dust, can take a hit, no stupid obsolete updates? I want it NOW!! This merged with a 5.5" smartphone, acting as just a tablet, is the perfect combo!! I hope this phone can run a nice 20 years of life. Just think, you'll be communicated for longer, powering up, tablets, laptops with the WiFi Hotspot!! Tablet gets obsolete in 3 years...no matter, i still have a phone. :)
Sooooo great to have you back! I always enjoy your reviews, even if it's about phones and other tech that I don't even care about! You just have a way to make it interesting, no matter what! Keep up the magic spells that you throw!
You can tell his commitment to the role when he dons a dirty hard hat, gets on some gloves, and stands next to a rusted piece of construction equipment. Good on you!
sooooo damn glad I can watch u doing what u do best again. it was I great idea to start this Mr. mobile chanel. create the story and sharing it with your single vison.
I had one of these for work, and really liked it, but there were a few subtleties about texting that Nokia got right, but Kyocera missed the mark on (like being able to hit the up arrow to not have to wait to type the next letter, making 0 the space bar... I haven't had the phone in a year, so I may be slightly off on the specifics here). I seriously considered buying one as a technology detox and vacation phone, but as stated in the review, the cost is a little high for something that won't see much use. Going to an old phone instead means not having 4g or even 3g compatibility, which means service coverage is bad to non-existent depending on the service provider. the only proper alternative would be a brand new cheap feature phone that wouldn't make me too sad to lose to water damage on a trip.
I used to live in Boston before moving to San Francisco at age 22 (2005) because I graduated with a Ph.D at Harvard, and taught Stanford, even ran a tech company (CEO).
I agree, the case thing part that you mentioned is a bad idea as well. I just got the latex shock proof iPad case but after a year the rubber part is just broken.
Actually Michael, have another group that I would like to add to the list: dear old Mum. When I first heard of the DuraXE, I thought that it could be a good replacement for her old 2G Nokia before either the phone itself or the networks that it connects to dies. However, after looking it to it further, I decide that it was not going to be a good fit due to it being an AT&T exclusive as far as I could tell [Couldn't find a unlocked or international model to import to NZ] and I was concerned about band support.
The jitterbug was actually a great flip phone for my elderly mom before she passed away. Only negative was the microUSB charging. Its time the world moves to TypeC to make it easier on everyone but especially the elderly in putting the male connector into the female hole.
I am in the market for a new phone... my old flip has finally died after 5 years, 100's of drops and a possible hit and run with the car (over) grass. I was contemplating a smart phone with more options and easy texting and then I dropped my phone again and the back and battery separated AGAIN so this is a win for me. $40 refurbished and away we go.
I tried this on T Mobile and even T Mobile could not get the AT&T unlocked phone to work. They did manage to get voice on it but no hotspot. But when I got back to rural country it wouldn't dial out and could not receive a call. I would love one of these made for T Mobile because of the hotspot. I carried the XT version (and it is set up better than the XE) on US Cellular for the last several years. Great phone and has a very loud ringer. I could hear it 100-150 ft away.
Just put your phone on a zip lock bag for all the dust and water protection you'll ever need. Plus the touch screen will work superbly even when wet. Pop in a 5-10 dollar heavy duty case, and the thing is rugged as a tank. This will also hide the flaps left by the zip lock bag.
Speaking of Kyocera, they announced that the DuraForce Pro, an upgraded replacement the Brigadier, will be coming to our shores. I would love to see you do an objective, long-term review of it, especially when compared to the Brigadier. That would make for a good appearance in your channel. :)
dumbphone!, novelty,!.....not all people have hang ups over there choice of cell phones beats putting a sheet of glass to your face that doesn't even qualify as a pocket phone. it dont fit in your pocket. try getting it fixed too. ..Thats always a good one.. Not everyone has a dianty lifestyle and a rugged phone is welcomed. But if your phone is a status symbol or if it's a factor to be embarrassed about there would be room for some emosional growing up too do..
I'm actually surprised it doesn't have a better camera. On a construction site you need to take documentation pictures all the time as well as using it as a quick and dirty fax machine. I would expect a minimum of 8mp if not 13 simply because most mid range phones have that.
I thing I miss the most with old dumb phones is the way you could throw it around and not cringe when you hear it clatter. Get stuff on it - wipe it off, it's fine. And a battery that lasted for weeks.

I just feel that Michael unleashed his full potential on his channel. The Pocketnow videos were great but these are just better.
Thanks very much!
Because he's finally free to actually do it exactly how he wants it. Excellent videos Mike, I look forward to seeing more of them.

These are the best reviews on UA-cam. Glad to have you back making videos Mr. Fisher.
Love the little touches of humour in your videos.
Michael Fisher is like a poet of technolgy world. Didn't know he left Pocketnow, or else I'd have become a subscriber earlier. Great video by the way.
After first two three videos, I thought man wow how good Micheal is with these videos but with s7 & now this one, you've taken it to an unchartered territory no one have ever touched.
Loved the writing on this review. Your background shows in your presentation. Thanks!
Why would it have a "My Apps" section if the phone doesn't have any apps?!
Really good question. There's not even an on-device store.
+MrMobile [Michael Fisher] for the app situation, if it's Android based. Were there's a will there's a way.
how about sideloading APK files to the phone?

I hate that they think it's okay to charge so much for that, good review though as usual
Generally dumbphones are much more affordable, but the MIL-STD 810G and IPX5/IPX8 stuff ain't cheap.
