In the studio today, working on Multimedia ArtBoard with cold wax & oil, and a touch of pastel! Adding layers, taking away layers and building a history of surface. Then highlighting with a touch of soft pastel.

So beautiful! 🤩
Thanks so much!!!🎨
Beautiful work!
Joann, thank you!!!
That’s just gorgeous Lisa! It looks like a reflection on a deep dark lagoon. Mysterious and waiting to tell it’s tale.
Many thanks Susan & John!! Thanks for watching!!!❤️
Lisa, I am addicted to your creativity. More of it please. Thanks for sharing you experience.
Thank you for watching!!
Very beautiful! Love the idea of the shaved pastel in to the top layer at the end. I am new to oil and cold wax and really enjoy it . Can’t wait to produce beautiful pictures. Love your videos your so relaxed when talking .
Fiona, thank you for your kind comments and for watching my channel!!! Much appreciated!!🎨
Thanks again for sharing with us.
Thank you for tuning in!!!
LOVE the shaved pastel technique! 😃
Alexandra, Thanks so much! Glad you liked it!
I watch all your videos avidly, they are so inspirational. You make it look so easy but I know it isn't! Really beautiful work, Eleanor x
Eleanor, many thanks for tuning in to my videos!! I thank you for your comment!!
I enjoyed watching all the many changes taking place. Too bad the upper right hand corner got paint under the tape...can it be fixed? If so, how?
Love this! Had no clue where you were heading, but it is truly beautiful!
Many thanks Betty!! I never know where I am heading either!! But the process is so fun!! Thanks for watching!!
So beautiful! I would never have thought of shaving the pastel on top of the cold wax or wet paint -- thank you for being so generous with sharing your process!
Bonnie, You are most welcome! Painting and sharing it is so fun!!! Thanks for watching my videos!!!
I was hoping to make it to your workshop in Kilmarnock, VA later this month, but cannot get off work. I live in Chesapeake, VA - - any chance you'll be in the Hampton Roads area in the future? I'm excited to try my hand at cold wax - - I have always just used acrylics.
Bonnie Anderson Bonnie, so wish you could join me in Kilmarnock!! However, I will be teaching in Richmond ,Va probably in the spring-2020! 🎨
Good to know -- I hope to be able to be there! I've subscribed to your FB page -- is that where you'll announce time and place of upcoming workshops?
Bonnie, Thanks so much! I do post workshops on FB and also you can hop over to my website as well-Lisa Boardwine Fine Art, and I list upcoming workshops there. I also have a newsletter you can subscribe to on my website. Just sign up on my opening page!
Another enjoyable video, thank you! Great tip with the pastels.
Tanya, so glad you enjoyed this video! The pastel is fun!!
Fantastic demo, Lisa!
Thanks so much Jennifer!!!
Beautiful work,!
Thanks so much Celina!!
Love this. Can I use just straight oil paint without the cold wax for this?
Sue yes you can! The cold wax makes the oils dry faster, gives them a body, and gives them a matte finish. So you can build more texture by using the cold wax mixed in your oil paints.
❤️❤️❤️
Many thanks Carolyn!!❤️
Hi Lisa - thanks so much for this video. I've been doing paintings using soft pastels for a little while now, but have recently become intrigued with using soft pastel with cold wax medium. When you were putting on the various colors with the "spreader," were the colors shaved soft pastel mixed with cold wax? Or did you buy colors already in powder form to mix with the cold wax? I'd like to try an abstracted representational piece so I'd be using the palette knife more, I think.
Mary, the color applies with the spreader or squeegee, was oil paint mixed with cold wax- a 50:50 ratio. Then at the end I shaved the soft pastel into a wet area or an area with a coat of clear cold wax so it holds the pastel and sets up in the wax. You can brayer a coat of clear wax on a waxed paper and gently lay it over the pastel then brayer to help set it in. You can also mix powdered pigment with wax and paint with it! 😁
@@LisaBBoardwine Thanks so much, Lisa. I understand now.
Lisa, this was a Wonderful video and tutorial...truly looking forward to trying multimedia art board and your techniques!!! ❣️
What is the best way to frame a finished Multimedia Art Board piece?
I have been catching up on your videos on my Roku/UA-cam channel, and wanted to let you know how inspiring they are!!!!
Judith, Thanks so much for tuning in!! The Multimedia ArtBoard is terrific! You can mat these pieces and frame them under glass, when dry of course, or you can mount them to a panel, attach a wire to the back and they are ready to hang! Very versatile!
Judith, I so appreciate you watching and letting me know you enjoy my content! That inspires me to keep making more videos!! Thank you!!!
Thank you Lisa for another inspirational video. I like the shaving pastel technique and gonna try it on a piece that is sitting in a corner, waiting to be finished.
Magda, thank you for your nice comment! So glad you will try this technique! It can truly "liven up" an area in certain paintings!
thanks Lisa, I follow and find good help here. Wondering: do you use mostly transparent hues?
Mary, so glad you are tuning in!! Thanks!! I use everything! Transparents and Opaques! I love it all!!🎨
Lisa, I like very much your art and you are always my inspiration.
Pleas tell me if these pastels you used are oil or other pastels?
Best regards
Ewa
Ewa, Thank you for watching my UA-cam channel! These pastels are soft pastels, like the chalky, dry ones, the ones I used in this video are the Unison brand. Oil pastels can be used- near the finish of an oil/cold wax painting because the manufacturers of oil pastels say they have a binder in them that never drries. Hope this helps!
@@LisaBBoardwine thank you very much
You are most welcome Ewa!!
How do you lock in the pastel, ie, prevent it from smudging?
The pastel is embedded in a wet layer of paint and wax or if the piece is drier I will put a layer of the clear cold wax down then add the pastel on top, cover it with newsprint and brayer in to set it. You can wait until the piece is completely dry then give it a light spritz of fixative.
@@LisaBBoardwine Thanks Lisa!
what paper is it?
This is MultiMedia Artboard! A great surface to work on!!
I like your paintings. I don’t like the “ music “ . So I turn the sound off. But then I don’t know when you’re talking . Do we need to be bombarded with ugly noise 24/7 where ever we are ? Shopping Center, public places - noise - we are blasted with noise . It is making me sick . Hi from Melbourne, Australia.
Glad you enjoyed the video and my paintings! Thank you!
